Summary: Dead Funny
Review: I ain't afraid of no ghost because they make me laugh. In this 1984 comedy, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, and Harold Ramis play paranormal investigator/exterminators who go around New York City hunting ghosts. At first, business is bad, but all of the sudden, the phones are ringing off the hook. They believe it to be luck, but when Murray's girlfriend (Sigourney Weaver) and her neighbor (Rick Moranis) become possessed, they must find the source of these paranormal occurences. It all culminates to the famous battle between the Ghostbusters and the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll... SCREAM!

Review: This is one of my favorite movies, unfortunately I can't share it with my family. They only speak Spanish. I don't know if the studios realize that soon over half of the film watching public will be spanish speaking. And these people won't be able to buy or enjoy this type of film.

Summary: Beware! - many production-flawed "Collector's Series" units!
Review: Ghostbusters is a great flick, but Columbia-TriStar Home Video has apparently sent-out production-flawed units titled - "Ghostbusters Collector's Series DVD". After purchasing one at a [local] store in my area, I went straight home and inserted it in my player and popped some corn. All was fine until the movie got to Chapter-15 whereby the video portion of the movie froze-up solid - like it was paused or something - as the audio continued to move forward in a jerky, cartoon-like fashion. I stopped the movie to observe the disk under better lighting and it was fine - at least it appeared so. I reloaded the disk and tried several attempts to access Chapter-15 and beyond, all without success. By that point, I was beginning to think my 3-month old Panasonic changer was flipping out. I loaded a different movie in the player - no problem. I carried the Ghostbusters disk to my DVD capable PC and experienced the same symptoms on it as well. The next day, I returned the movie to [the local store] and exchanged it for another. Surely, the first disk was just bad - right? I tried the second DVD at home and it turned-out to be the same as the first - BAD, and with the exact symptoms as the first. It looks as though I'll have to make yet another trip to [the local store] so as to collect my refund. After a little research on the Web, I found that many were having the same problems with this title. ... Beware of this disk, and hang-on to your receipt if you decide to try one yourself!!

Summary: "Go check on that little guy!"
Review: This is one of the classic comedies of all time, so it's hard to give it an objective viewing. I've been watching it off and on since it came out, and, since it's one of my wife's favorite movies, I've been watching it more since we were married.

But what works, works. The screenplay by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis is a good place to start. While they all give letter-perfect performances, the script is where it's at. To begin, the idea of crossing science-fiction with comedy was one that was relatively new for the time. And just the name "ghostbusters" is for some reason hilarious.

The characters they have created are ideal for this scenario, and are drawn from personality types. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) is the cocky-yet-vulnerable leader of the group (watch and see how many times he takes charge of situations, giving orders to the others). Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) is the bumbling, childlike electronics wizard, the designer of the concept (appropriate, since the movie came from Aykroyd's original idea). And Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) is the bookworm/computer wizard who, for fun, collects various forms of lower plant-life; he is also the unwitting recipient of affection from the group's receptionist Nadine (Annie Potts). Added later is Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), there mostly to tell a religion story and make cracks about his blackness, and how, in the science-fiction canon, this would make him the first to die.

Each character is played to the hilt by the actors, including Rick Moranis as Louis Tully, accountant to Dana (Sigourney Weaver). He plays his nerdiness up through actions, voice inflections, and costume. Meanwhile Weaver, cashing in on her lanky sexiness (first seen in Alien and brought to full effect here) is the perfect foil/love interest for Murray's Venkman (Margaret Dumont to his Groucho, so to speak). He has to eschew his normal wisecracking in favor of action in order to win her.

The special effects are secondary, of course, to the character relationships, but without realistic effects, the film would not work. In the DVD commentary, they make sure to point out the places where the effects were especially cheap, but I think that makes them better for being more imaginative.

If you haven't seen it (and if you grew up in the '80's, I imagine you have), or if you just want to revisit it (the DVD is available for a great price considering all the extras), this is just as funny now as it was then, and it has lost none of its timelessness.

Summary: That's a big twinkie!
Review: A big movie brought back in a big way. This has been the definitive cult classic and comedy legend since its release. This is the most original script ever to approach comedy or science fiction. The DVD's extras are a must for any fan. The commentary is hilarious and very informative. To hear how much fun and love went into making this film, the more you get out of it. This DVD came, saw, and kicked our ass!

Summary: We got one!
Review: "Ghostbusters" will always remain an 80's classic. The interactive menus are awesome and the visual effects features that take you behind the scenes are my favorite part of the whole disc. Too bad the above average sequel was overlooked for a decent polish.

Summary: Only makes the greatest comedy ever even better!
Review: Call it fate, call it luck, call it Karma, I believe that this film was ment to be on DVD.
A fantastic film made only better by some great interactive menus and fun extras.
If you get the oppurtunity, watch this DVD with the commentary with Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman, and...(Im sorry but I cant remember the third person. Director of photography I think.) Anyway.. This commentary was almost funnier than the movie itself.
The other special features were just as fun. The deleted scenes do make you realize how important Editors are. Really not funny or interesting stuff there. Still fun to see.
Visually the DVD looks stunning! Very crisp and pleasing to watch. Ditto on the sound. At the time I watched this I had not hooked up my surround sound. Once I get everything plugged in I will have to rewatch it.

Summary: Who Ya Gonna Call?!
Review: I was 5 years old when I first saw Ghostbusters. It instantly became one of those films that sort of defined your childhood. You look back on it and are remembered of that specific time in your life. It's always a magical feeling. I still get that feeling every time I see this 1984 classic. I saw it 4 or 5 times in the theaters and watched it religiously on video. It's still a great movie 18 years later. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the creative and hilarious script, and also co-star in the film as well. Those two, plus Bill Murray , and Ernie Hudson soon after, become the Ghostbusters. Busting ghouls, goblins, and spirits all over New York City. They take special interest in Dana Barrett(Sigourney Weaver), whose apartment seems to be ground zero in a demonic building. Dr. Venkman(Murray)instantly falls for her. This was 1984, and the effects are pretty solid and incredible for point in time. There are some rather cheesy and not so impressive effects(the demon animal, for one), but on the whole, the effects are outstanding. Especially the stay puft marshmellow man. Aykroyd and Ramis seem to have all the paranormnal talk and gadgets down pat in their script. By now, everyoone must know that Aykroyd is a huge paranormal believer, so he knows his stuff. The film, however, entirely belongs to the great Bill Murray. He brings instant charm to his role as Dr. Peter Venkman, and, of course, gets all the best lines. Rick Moranis is also on hand as a nerdy neighbor of Sigourney's, and former "Designing Woman" star Annie Potts plays the guys' secretary. All the ghosts are done with effective spookiness, and there are ones just for laughs. They all succeed. And, how can we forget the music?. I had to lick the bottom of my sister's shoe to get her Ghostbusters album she just bought for herself. Yes, I was a true fan. The movie was solidly directed by Ivan Reitman. A less impressive, but still fun, sequel arrived five years later in 1989. Ghostbusters is a genuine film classic. A winner on all fronts.

Summary: Welcome to Spook Central!!
Review: Since I was extremely young, Ghostbusters has remained one of my fave movies. The cast is pure genius - Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Akroyd, Sigourney Weaver and the hilarious Rick Moranis. Set in the great New York City, the public are terrifyed by ghostly occurances and the Ghostbusters are there to help. A building, so strange yet bewitching becomes the gateway for the spirits and before long the city faces a fate worse than death....who ya gonna call?...GHOSTBUSTERS!! The story is great and the humour created by the cast is beyond hilarious...well done!! A movie that will go down in history as one of the funniest most well produced movie ever!
Only one bad thing about this dvd edition is that it only plays half of the movie - this is probably due to the RCE feature, it was disapointing to get so into the movie and then have it stop. But great movie!!
