Rating: Summary: Go Get It! Review: An entertaining and darkly humorous movie based on 3 sub plots all cleverly intertwined. The movie starts off in a supermarket and spirals into three separate stories, from three sequences initiating in the supermarket, and taking place on one night around Christmas time. My favorite story was the one with Adam and Zack and particularly their invitation to "Christmas dinner". Jay Mohr was excellent as usual but Scott Wolfe was a surprise and it was good to see him doing something different. The movie was a little slow to begin with but by the time it gets to Simon's story the pace picks up and carries on at great speed. The soundtrack was a good accompaniment and to me fitted the mood of the movie. I do wish it had had wider theatrical release (like in my country) as I would have enjoyed seeing it in the cinema. Good flick!
Rating: Summary: GOOOO! Review: I really enjoyed this movie, but its another one that can be played out if you watch it too much. So dont. But watch it when you have your friends over or you need an action/comedy/drama/brief nudity type film. Its good, its funny, the actress who plays Ronna is gorgeous, plus Nathan Bexton is in there, hes the guy who plays Manny. He was in "Nowhere" which is a film to buy if any of you liked Go. they split this film up into sections, not quite like Pulp fiction but its not one continuous story. You get to see all the angles in this movie which is nice for a change. Instead of watching Pulp Fiction and trying to guess whats in the freakin' suitcase.
Rating: Summary: A DVD review Review: If you liked 'Pulp Fiction' you'll probably like this one too. The storylines aren't as tightly woven and there are lose ends. A lot of editing mistakes can be seen too, mainly when viewing in slow motion. The 'making of' featurette is in this case a 7 min extended trailer that could have been excluded. No real 'making of' information is given. The commentary does a better job of that, although the director and editor tend to digress during scenes. They start talking about a scene and stay on that subject or digress through several scenes then return to commentary on the scene they happen to be watching. I find commentaries that are easier to listen to with the picture off annoying, as is the case here. I liked the music videos and they make a great addition. One video with 'No Doubt' has little connection to the movie other than the singer goes to a rave. The video with 'Len' has no connection; it's shot in Florida at Spring Break. The 'Wild Carpet Ride' video is the best, featuring the 'Simon' section actors as a band also intercut with the chase scene. The deleted scenes were mostly different versions of scenes in the film with either slightly altered dialogue or location. One scene was really an outtake of the scene with Ronni drinking the beer; here she spills it on herself and almost starts laughing, which is funny in the context. One scene should have been left in; this scene explains why the kid doesn't let them in his room during the start of the chase scene. Overall a very good DVD to have in your collection especially if you liked the film.
Rating: Summary: Funny story. Review: This is a cleverly told tale with some innovate point of view techniques usually seen in movies like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. The characters are good looking and well cast. You'll find yourself laughing to yourself often, and out loud just a few times. Wolf is great as is Jay Mohr. The female characters shine. The pacing is often frenetic and the sound and picture quality do not disappoint. You will enjoy this movie if you overlook the sometimes heavily predictable personas like the tragically hip young white poseurs. Pretty good overall. Awesome soundtrack too. Nice to see young actors in more viable roles.
Rating: Summary: Completely overlooked... Review: I still haven't figured out why this movie didn't do boffo box office. It is one of the most clever, funniest, entertaining, interesting and stimulating movies I have ever seen - especially when compared with a lot of the schlock that comes out lately. Sarah Polley, Katie Holmes, Scott Wolf and Jay Mohr all put in terrific performances. I expect that from Polley, but I was really pleased to see Holmes, Wolf and Mohr put their considerable talents to work in a vehicle that allowed them to do so. Some of the scenes with Holmes and those with Wolf and Mohr are downright hysterical - I was literally laughing so hard I almost couldn't stop. And the other players are just as excellent as the 'leads,' which is part of what makes this movie so wonderful. While 'Pulp Fiction' made it cool to jump around in time - and it seems there were quite a spate of imitators - 'Go' does it in such a way that it does not seem gimmicky at all but rather adds several dimensions to the film by showing it from so many different perspectives. This movie is a lot of fun! It seems - and most definitely deserves - to be finding a wide audience on video. This is one flick that should NOT be overlooked...
Rating: Summary: Go get it Review: "Go" was a truly underappreciated gem that didn't get nearly the audience it deserved. Calling it a "Gen X Pulp Fiction" does not quite do it justice. The out of sequence timing is much more intricate here and the characters are actually more likable. The amazing Sarah Polley gets the John Travolta role as the character whose story holds the narative together. Polley is one of the best young actresses working today. Actually, the whole cast is uniformly excellent and believable in their roles. Overall, this is the best film thus far to walk in the footsteps of "Pulp Fiction," and it also has more heart.
Rating: Summary: The Essence of Cool Review: This movie proves that you don't need *The Matrix*'s special effects to be one of the COOLEST movies ever: all you need are a talented director, a great cast, and a taut, well-written script. From the opening sequence, set to hip electronica, you know *Go* is going to rock. And it doesn't disappoint. Liman captures the rave atmosphere perfectly (he knows how to use the camera), and the music complements the action expertly. The movie has a great soundtrack to boot. You will forget that you're watching actors onscreen; they *become* their characters. Watch for the little nuances, the facial expressions that prove it. It helps that the movie's hilarious at times as well, yet it mixes hilarity and harsh reality well, juxtaposing them with ease. It portrays the subculture realistically: this could have actually happened last Christmas, for all you know. I've seen *Go* three times now, and enjoyed it even more with each viewing. I only hope that I can ever make a movie as damn cool as *Go* sometime.
Rating: Summary: Generation X meets Pulp Fiction - squared Review: If you are a Baby Boomer trying to get a handle on Generation X, this just may give a teeny tiny handle on the project. Take the movie "Dazed and Confused" and move it forward 28 years, throw in several handfulls of jaded cynicism, substitute Techno-Ambient for Classic Rock and a rave for a kegger. Add the road trip from hell and a surreal sting operation and you've got the bare skelleton of "GO". Flesh it all out with crystal realism, great screenwriting and crackling acting. This movie may not be for everyone, but if you liked "Pulp Fiction" there is a very high likelihood you will lap this right up. Hugely entertaining. The movie rewards repeated viewings.
Rating: Summary: Yet another weak "Pulp Fiction" rip-off. Review: I was hoping this movie would bring somthing new to the world of cinema. But all "Go" brought me was regret for renting it. All I see in this movie is "Pulp Fiction" with teens wrather than adults as the main characters. And just like "Pulp Fiction" this movie does not go in order from beginning to end. And the first scene is set in a diner with a girl and a boy talking, the scene later appears in the movie all over again, identical to.... yes you got it "Pulp Fiction". Other Pulp rip-offs include an outside drug-dealer , a character on extremely to many drugs, and corrupt cops. So if you want to get the real deal, than get "Pulp Fiction".
Rating: Summary: On your mark, get set, and... Review: In this action packed thrill ride, Director Doug Liman (of Swinger's fame) hits on all cylinders and avoids the sophomore slump. The basic structure of the movie is reminiscent of "Pulp Fiction" with multiple story lines that include underground raves, Las Vegas chaos, drugs, and sex. All of these ingredients, including some very humorous moments, create a razor-sharp story that surprises right to the end. With a great cast that includes Sarah Polley (exceptional as the lead character Ronna), Jay Mohr, and Taye Diggs, the film never loses its focus or its edge. One unexpected highlight is Timothy Olyphant, whose portrayal of a smooth talking drug dealer is both menacing and sympathetic. Adding to the film's energy is a thumping soundtrack featuring standout tracks form Len, No Doubt, and DJ Rap. This was definitely one of the best films of the past year and should not be missed. Watch it and enjoy the party.
