Rating: Summary: Pulp Fiction for Generation X Review: "Go", as the title's urgency indicates, is a fast pasted action thriller dumbed down a bit for those who still can't quite grasp what "Pulp Fiction" was trying to say. Arranged in a series of vignettes that evetually coincide, the story is clever and attention-grabbing. Sex and drugs and Rock and Roll are all well represented -- thus fulfilling all requirements needed to qualify as a Teen Movie. Yet, there are bright spots and tasty plot twists that will keep you guessing. Not about what's gonna happen, but who's gonna do the NEXT really stupid thing to get everyone in trouble.
Rating: Summary: I love this movie Review: I love how each story connects in this movie. Each story starts out dull but ends up to be thrilling. I loved the storyline with the gay guys. They were very funny. There should be a movie based only on them.
Rating: Summary: This movie rocks! Review: This movie was awesome! There was an interesting twist at every turn. The cast was exceptional and very realistic in their portrayal of their youthful characters. The subject matter in the movie also gives some insight into the situations faced by the youth of today and might be a good tool for parents to see what goes on at some of the "parties" their children attend. I think this movie would be helpful and entertaining to all who watch it.
Rating: Summary: Swingers Review: My mate Nigel 'spunky' Turner and I settled down to watch this on the couch the other night. The cover proudly announces 'from the makers of 'Swingers'. "Now, I'm the king of the slackers, ohh, the LA V.I.P. I made some slop and had to stop and that's what's bothering me. I wanna be like Tarantino, and stroll right into town. Leach like all the others, I'm tired of hanging around. Oh, Quenty-poohs. I wanna be like you-hoo-hoo. I wanna walk like you, talk like you, boo-hoo-hoo. You see it's true-hoo-hoo. A clown like me-hee-hee. Can learn to be, just like you, man, too-hoo-hoo."Half way through the video my mate Nigel 'spunky' Turner turned to me and said: "Sarah Polley doesn't half give me the horn." Terrifying words when you've once again forgotten to put on the wind-cheater and galoshes.
Rating: Summary: great movie Review: Go is a interest movie with the interwoven story lines. I've seen the movie a few times now and it seems like there is always something to keep my attention fixed on the movie. It really is an interesting movie with an interesting concept.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining flash'n'trash Review: A lot of people on Amazon have been saying "Go" is some kind of Gen-X "Pulp Fiction", but that's being kind to the movie. Sure, there are three loosely related plot threads that happen simultaneously, but the dialogue is just okay and the characters are not that developed or interesting. Still, the movie does have a few startling plot twists and benefits from some charismatic acting; Taye Diggs and Timothy Olyphant stood out in my mind, although just about everyone was good (except Katie Holmes' character failed to make an impression, but maybe that's just because she paled in comparison when everyone else in the movie was over-the-top horny, stupid, desperate, and/or malevolent). Best thing I liked about the movie was its portrayal of today's youth as a bunch of underachieving dummies. (I'm only 29, but I can still feel smug and superior ... "Back in my day" ...) One character apparently waits until the day before she's to be evicted to scrape up rent money; lots of kids pop pills not knowing what's in them; the best scene has a strip-club bouncer who's just been shot being simultaneously stitched up and chewed out by his dad, who tells him that the only reason people get to "the top" these days is by screwing up so badly, the people above them can't do their jobs. (An even longer and more bitter version of this scene appears among the DVD deleted scenes.) I watched some of the director's commentary too, and was interested to find out that neither the director nor the editor had ever taken ecstasy, although they try to portray the feeling with lots of cuts and distortion and rave footage. It does create a very disorienting landscape in those scenes, and they say that people who know what it's like tell them they got the chaotic feeling right-on. Overall, the movie is not at all substantial, but it is slightly edgy (thanks to Olyphant's deadpan drug dealer), a little bit funny, occasionally surprising, and it moves quickly enough to keep from getting boring.
Rating: Summary: Certainly nothing "mellow" about it. Review: I'd have never guessed that Scott Wolf and Jay Mohr could pull off portraying a gay couple, but they did it beautifully. The real winner in this multi-narrative about several young, good-looking people, though, is Sara Polley, who seems to have transitioned easily from her period role in CBC's "The Road to Avonlea" to this story of a grocery-store clerk who fakes some impressive bravado to score some Xstacy and desperately needed rent money in its resale. Things, of course, go horribly, horribly wrong, as they usually do when a good-looking blonde fakes bravado with a skanky drug dealer, and we're treated to some great smart-ass lines (after passing off some antihistamines as Xstacy, Polley's character reassures the user, "It's really mellow, isn't it?"), a little gun play, an incredible car chase scene through downtown Las Vegas (the chase music, "Magic Carpet Ride," brought back some intense college memories), and overall a solid movie with only one piece of dialogue that was a little too much.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT MOVIE IN SEARCH OF A BETTER TITLE Review: This has been compared to PULP FICTION but it is actually closer to recent episodes of THE SIMPSONS and ER, where the same story is told from 3 different points of view. Very much recommended.
Rating: Summary: Pulp Fiction w/o the violence Review: Though not as widely loved as Swingers, this is also a classic film of a similar genre. Like Pulp Fiction, it weaves several different plot lines into a coherent story (the interesting director's commentary helps explain the nuances). The end result is a hysterical film for for 20-somethings -- I guarantee you will be quoting lines from this film when you're out drinking.
Rating: Summary: Good attempt at directing, bad attempt at story telling. Review: I can't figure this film out; it is shot in an interesting manner, showing the same period of time through the eyes of its three main characters, the only problem I really have with this film is how it poor the character development is. The characters, are shallow, predictable people. Whether its the amotivational drug-dealer, or the prissy homosexual played by Jay Mohr. I found these stereotypes to draw greatly from the movie and make the ending dull and cheesy.
