Rating: Summary: a night in the life of 3 grocery clerks Review: Ronna, Simon and Claire are three grocery clerks in LA with their myriad problems. Ronna needs money badly, and so decides to sell Ecstasy with Claire at a nightclub to make it. This of course takes a bad and frightening turn of events. Simon is a Brit on his first trip to Vegas, which also goes much less than smoothly. Adam and Zack are two soap opera stars who get involved in Ronna's doings as well. Each character has a clearly-delineated section of the movie i.e. "Simon's Story" flashes on the screen. It is a bit disjointed at first, but as you keep watching you see how clues from other characters' sections all come together to forumlate the total story. It will keep your attention, that's for sure! The soundtrack is also a good one, as are minor characters like "Ally McBeal" star Jane Krakowski as a housewife who sells products in a pyramid scheme.
Rating: Summary: Kind of like "The Big Lebowski" meets "Pulp Fiction" Review: A frenetic and often clever attempt to chronicle the (mis) adventures of some slightly addled 20-somethings in after-hours Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Not great, but it has its moments. Worth watching if comedic violence and a lot of foul language won't upset you.
Rating: Summary: All "Go", non-stop fun! Review: What makes this movie great is that it's told through different viewpoints. Each character has a fun story to share with you. You'll especially love Simon, the goofy Brit. If you want to see a movie that's smart, funny, hip, and cool then this is the one. A good movie to watch by yourself or with friends (maybe if you're between the ages of 15-25). I doubt this is a movie your parents would want to see.
Rating: Summary: Right decision - Wrong Reason Review: I came to veiwing the movie "GO" in a bass-ackward way. I had heard a re-mix of Steppen Wolf's Magic Carpet Ride on the radio. I tried for months to find out who the artist was. Eventually, I met a kid (I'm over 50) at a music store and he knew exactly what the piece of music was. "Oh, that's on the sound track for the movie "GO". "Never heard of it." "It's way-kewl, you should see it." "What's it about?" "All kinds of stuff." "Well, gee, thanks for the tip." (NOT!) I played the CD and discovered that there were several "Way-kewl" tunes on the sound track other than the Magic Carpet Ride Re-mix (Which is WAY WAY WAY KEWL!) I decided that since the sound track was so interesting I should give "Go" a go. Uh, what's it about? I must admit that "Lot's of Stuff" is a pretty fair answer. One criteria I use in deciding if I like a movie is whether or not it has been "smarter than me". I mean, towards the end of the flick "stuff" happens that was obviously and plainly set up very early. The "set up" slipped from my memory (by director's design) so it would appear much later with great and amusing effect. The kid raising the pimple farm was right-on: "It's Way-Kewl". I would have to translate that to the MUCH more contemporary expression - "It's Very Far-Out, Man!"<G>
Rating: Summary: Don't Pass Go Review: Director Doug Liman's non-linear comedy, GO is a fun film, despite some folks dismissing it as PULP FICTION wannabe. Several lives, some with seemingly no connection cross paths, over the course of one night. Ronna (Sarah Polley) needs some quick cash. Her friend SImon (Desmond Askew) knows how to help her... He asks her to run an errand for him so that he can take a quick trip to Las Vegas.with some buddies (Taye Diggs, Breckin Meyer). She agrees, and asks co-worker Claire, (Katie Holmes) to tag along...Meanwhile, Zack (Jay Mohr) and Adam (Scott Wolf), are just out and about to have a good time... The comparisons to PULP are unavoidable, to be sure, but to dismiss it soley on that basis, is unfair. I know I am in the minority...but I don't think that the Tarintino film that put him on the map, deserved as much attention, as it got...I digress...The cast is on target. The situations the characters find themselves in are quirky and entertaining. The film zips along at a good pace and its non-linear style is put to good use. It's never overdone. Like Liman's other comic tale SWINGERS, GO is also pretty funny too.Viewers can choose to watch the film in either Widescreen or Pan and Scan formats The DVD has a handfull of solid extras. The commentary track from Liman and the film editor is well done. While the making of featurette is nothing more than a fluff piece. The disc contains no less than 14 deleted scenes--some of which, are pretty funny. There are a trio of music videos that showcase songs from the kicking soundtrack. Talent files, production notes, and the theatrical trailer top off the disc for a good film. The film and DVD is recommended
Rating: Summary: great, underrated film Review: Good, clever film about youthful exuberance and energy. Hilarious in many places and always fast paced. One point that no other reviewers seem to have commented on yet is the fact that the film is also subtly melancholy, with all of the characters leading essentially bleak lives despite their youth. Great movie overall,- violent, funny, unsettling, almost frantic yet often sad- and not as mindless as one would think.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling, entertaining ride for everyone except kids. Review: As you watch this movie you find yourself totally engrossed, and socked and amazed when its over and an hour and a half has passed you by without you even realizing it. Go is a funny, realistic, fast paced comedy with a couple dozen of main characters: Rona & who is mostly seen with her, Maddie, Simon & his friends, Claire, the drug dealer (can not recall his name) and the gay couple Adam & Zack & the police officer forcing them to set up a sting where they really want Simon, but will settle for Rona who only wants to make enough money to pay her rent so she isn't kicked out on Christmas day. Go is filmed in like, sequences where nothing is all happening at once. First they show you what happens with Rona, Claire and Maddie when Rona goes to a drug dealer and asks for E to be fronted to her and leaves Claire as colateral but then has to flush the E and still get Claire back, then they go back in time and show you what happenes with Simon and his buddies on their way to Vegas and what happens when they get there...gambling, all you can eat shrimp, sex, fire, drugs....its crazily funny. Then we skip back in time to Adam & Zack who are at the grocerie store Rona, Simon, Claire and Maddie all work at...looking for Simon to score some E, as apart of a plea bargin for possion they both agreed to set up a sting to get Simon who had sold it to them before, but when Rona hears they're looking for E she thinks its easy money, and tells them she can set it up for them so the cop involved in this decides to set her up and take her in instead of Simon. While you have that with Adam and Zack, you also have the fact that Adam & Zack are two of the hottest soap stars in Hollywood, and are a gay couple who are cheating on each other...with the same guy! This movie will have your interest and full attention from beginning to end. I reccomd it to high school students, college students, or anyone under the age of 50, but no younger than 15 with all the sex, drugs and violence that makes this movie so good.
Rating: Summary: Witty, Smart, Clever, and Highly Entertaining Review: Go didn't get much attention at the box office, but it really is a decent film. The most memorable thing about the movie is how the story is told.... split into three parts, the same night of events is told through the eyes of three different characters. It's a very good follow-up to Swingers and clearly has a much higher budget. The DVD is pretty good. The video is solid and the sound is incredibly intense during the rave scenes. The bass booms loud enough to give you goose bumps. The extras are so-so, the funniest being the outtake where the two guys ad lib at the restaurant table. A decent DVD for a decent movie.
Rating: Summary: Raving brought to a new level Review: This film is witty, funny, beautiful, and sharp. The fast pacing and entertwining stories keep you hungry for more. Plus, you gotta love the cat and grocery store scenes. A teen flick and Tarantino love child.
Rating: Summary: Dis movie is tight Review: This movie was hella tight. It is told three times from the perspective of what three different people did in one night. I bought it because I thought it was revolved around a rave, well it wasn't but it was still cool. It was funny when Ronna started selling asprin like they were ex. And the two gay guys were hilarious too. So if you like to see the crazy things that people do on their free time, then definitley pick this up.
