Rating: Summary: A Pleasant Surprise Review: Iwas surprised on how well this movie came together. First of all the movie did not appeal to me while it was in theaters. But when it came out on video i decided to give it a chance. First of all i had only heard of Doug Liman. But when i popped this in to the VCR i was surprised. The Pace was very fast and fresh and the visual style it had it all came together and the cast was very good and worked very well with each other.
Rating: Summary: Stop saying this movie is a "Teen Pulp Fiction." Review: Everyone says that "Go" is a copy of "Pulp Fiction." Yes, it is a film divided into three stories with a non-linear timeline. But if you think that Tarantino was the first to come up with those ideas, then you are sadly mistaken. Go to the independent film section of your local video store and rent Jim Jarmusch's 1989 film "Mystery Train" and tell me Tarantino didn't lift his storyline straight from it. As the characters in Liman's last film "Swingers" state, "Everyone steals from everyone." Liman then humorously illustrated that point by copying scenes from "Goodfellas" and "Reservoir Dogs" almost verbatim. There's nothing wrong with deriving inspiration from great directors. So ignore all this talk about "Go" being a Tarantino rip off and treat yourself to a film that is engaging, well-acted, thoroughly entertaining and arguably the best film of the year.
Rating: Summary: This is much different than Pulp Fiction... Review: Lots of movies have the effect of groups intertwining. Give it a rest. This movie is the biggest adrenaline rush you'll have at a movie all year. This, along with The Matrix, Election, The Thomas Crown Affair and The Blair Witch Project, is one of my favorite movies of 1999.
Rating: Summary: Ignore all the "Pulp Fiction" comparisons Review: This film is not "Pulp Fiction", so stop saying it sucks just cause the multi-person perspective is used. Sure it borrows many ideas and styles from it, but it's not the first nor will it be the last. I've seen many films that look like an Alfred Hitchcock film, I've seen many that look like a David Lean film, I've seen many that look like a Quentin Tarrantino film. When a fresh looking film such as "Pulp Fiction" hits the scene, it is inevitable that knock-offs will follow. So see "Go" and judge for yourself. Regardless, it's great fun.
Rating: Summary: What a great surprise! Review: I went to see "Go" with a friend, and I had no idea what it was about, or who was in it, or even what genre of movie it was to be...in other words, I went to see "Go" with zero expectations. That said, I was thoroughly entertained. The acting was excellent, the dialogue was VERY funny, and the non-linear presentation of the plot added to the tension in the movie. Much has been written of the similarities between "Go" and "Pulp Fiction", in part because both films present their plots in a non-linear fashion. I am a moviegoer who considers "Pulp Fiction" to be a 90's classic. At the same time, "Go" does a better job of presenting its plot (for example, most people didn't realize that "Pulp Fiction" was seen out of real time until very late in the film, and therefore left the movie confused and not sure what they'd seen). This is not the case with "Go", which is one of the film's strengths. See this movie, simply to be entertained by a little dark humor that is presented in a way different from most films. By the time you get to the last line of the film ("What are you doing next weekend?"), you'll be totally set-up as well.
Rating: Summary: Lives Up to the Hype and to its Potential Review: With so many stars in one little movie "Go" could have gone bust by trying to support so many characters through out the many plots in this movie. Yes it had a "Pulp Fiction" feel to it and yes it brought back memories of "Swingers". But with a great new feel added to both concepts. This movie had everything todays hyper active audiences needed: Fast paced action mixed with great story lines and a great sound track to boot. The only thing that this movie lacked was a superb ending to it all. The ending kind of fell short. While the rest of the movie kicked and rocked. More than making up for the end. If you have a little extra cash, buy this movie NOW. If not, "Go" rent it. It's worth the money.
Rating: Summary: All the pieces fit to make a great movie Review: Comparing this movie to Pulp Fiction doesn't do it justice. Several different stories all come together to hilarious results. The story in Vegas alone is worth owning this movie, it's fun, and the music is perfect for it. The funnest movie of the summer. See this movie!
Rating: Summary: a not so great movie Review: This movie was pretty bad. The only thing that this movie had going for it was the inventive way of how they told each person's story. Though I might try and give this movie a second chance, by seeing it again. I don't recommend this movie. There are a lot of other movies that are more rent worthy, but if you have nothing better see then go for it.
Rating: Summary: Why am I only the one who's sick of Pulp Fiction wannabes? Review: Note to director: You're not Tarantino. You've got a great visual flair, but this script is the most derivative piece of writing i've ever witnessed. This is Pulp Fiction light from the get-go. Swingers was ten times more original than this. Decent performances all alround, but overall: you can afford to pass Go
Rating: Summary: Forget The Matrix, Go is the coolest and best movie of 99 Review: I have never left a cinema on such a high before. Go is an awesome, awesome movie. It's the kind of teen movie that I wish Hollywood would start making instead of all those by-the-numbers crap like She's all That and Can't Hardly Wait. In fact, no, forget what I just said, if Go's box office is anything to go by, most American teens don't deserve such an amazing movie. The film borrows Pulp Fiction's story-telling arc, intertwining three seemingly seperate stories with such finesse your left gawking at the screen with amazement, loving each second spent with these characters. Also it does this structure in a far more interesting way than Tarantino's classic, with an epilogue that will leave you high and smiling. Cast-wise, Katie Holmes is as radiant as ever, beating out the equally awesome Sarah Polley for the best actress award in this movie. Tim Olyphant does his best work since Scream 2, (he was the only decent thing in Scream 2 outside of Randy's return)playing a character who is by far the most interesting in the entire movie. Just when you think you've got him pegged ... It was also cool to see William Fichtner doing something different from his usual psycho schtick. All in all, go see this movie, and if you're a teenager, treat yourself to the best "teen" movie of the 90's. I can't wait to see what director Doug "Swingers" Liman does next. Forget Tarantino, meet the new king of the indie scene.
