Summary: One of the worst movies I've ever seen
Review: For the first half hour I thought, "Well, it starts really slow but..."For the next hour, I said, "This movie has to go somewhere, some time... or at least it has to end." And the ending stunk. Other than those three parts, the beginning, middle and end, it was a great movie. I was on an airplane for 9 hours and this was the only movie they showed on the screen. It made the flight only longer. God help us all if that movie was nominated for anything besides a turkey award.

Summary: A wonderful film, but better in a theatre
Review: Most times, for little films (ones that don't need large wide-screen panoramas or lots of special affects, you don't lose much in going to the small screen. Lost in Translation may be an exception to that general rule. Roger Ebert had an interesting observation in his recent letter column. Several readers noted that there seemed to be a big discrepency: those who first saw this film in a theatre were much more likely to rate it highly than those who first saw it on DVD. One reader noted: "I loved 'Lost in Translation' in the theater and encouraged all of my friends to see it. Every single one who saw it on video was bored by the movie. To me, much of the humor and interest was in Bill Murray's expressions and reactions. Is there a possibility that this would be lost on the small screen?" Another said: "it's been my experience that quiet, character-driven movies also benefit from this environment, even though this may sound somewhat counterintuitive. In a dark and quiet theater, free of the distractions of home viewing, you can concentrate and appreciate this type of film much more." I think they may be on to something here.

Summary: Not for the Simple-Minded
Review: Although this film is simple, it speaks volumes in depth. People who don't "get it" probably hardly ever "get it" so they shouldn't hold this fantastic film responsible for their inabilties. I thought Bill Murray was brilliant and Scarlett Johansson was very impressive, being so young but proving herself as a very mature actor. SO if you don't feel like thinking and feeling, just cruise on by and hit up the romantic comedy section.

I saw it in the theatre and I should have asked for my money back.
The script stunk. The characters are bored while in exciting Tokyo so they sit in bars and smoke and share shallow dialogue. Gee hold me back! This is one big yawn...
This flick makes my top ten list of worst movies I have ever seen.

Review: I will make this short. This movie was so slow and boring that I turned it off 30 minutes into it. After all the great reviews I heard about this movie I was expecting something spectacular. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting. Then I got tired of waiting.

Summary: The over-Cynical movie nimrods over-analyse once again!!!!
Review: Lost in Translation.... Hmmmm Where to start? Well, let's start with this: Its not a super-brainy movie, its not cerebral film, and it never claims to be. What it claims to be is a great vehicle for Murray and Johansson, and film that just sort floats along and shows us all the gorgeous(and some not so gorgeous) sights of Tokyo. People seem to be over-analysing this film, it is extremely annoying when people don't review a film fairly. 3 stars is not what this movie deserves at all. It is far better then that. The plot is simple, 2 people are stuck im Tokyo alone in a fancy Hotel alone. One an aging action film star from the 70's, Bob Harris(Bill Murray), whom has gone to Tokyo while things back home need some helping and Charlotte(Scarlet Johansson) a 25yr college grad whose photographer husband is to busy to pay attention to her. They keep seeing eachother around the Hotel and eventually start talking, and then start hanging around. They romp around Tokyo together basically trying to escape the truth about their lives, basically they are trying to escape reality through eachother and the city. The thing is, I don't think this scenario is much different from many people out there. We all want to escape reality, almost every day were alive. Many wish they were dead, many wish they were always sleeping, and some just daydream all the time to get away from life. But just like real life, you eventually have to come back down from that cloud and face life. :) That is what Lost in Translation is, an escape. and I couldn't think of a movie that would help help escape much better then this. Yet, at the same time also reminds you of why you are escaping, kind of ironic eh? Its not a complicated movie, and that's why I love it, for its wonderful simplicity. Also, the performances and chemistry my Murray and Johansson is amazing. Its to bad neither of them could get Oscars(Johansson wasn't even nominated). Its hard to believe she's the same as me. She's just so effortless. Well, I *hope* you can enjoy this movie for what it is, a simple and beautiful escape from your droll lives. God Bless & *enjoy* ~Amy

Summary: The Emperor's New Clothes. Awful. Just Awful.
Review: I have talked to people who liked this movie. They fawn over its goodness. I just do not get it. I think they're making it up. The only thing "good" about the movie is that it makes you empathize with the boredom of the main characters. The movie is so painfully boring that I kept waiting for the end that just would not seem to come. Skip it.

Review: It is a strange character study of two people lost in a strange land. In fact, it is two people sharing their own private desperation and depression. If you want to stay in a good mood, pass on this one. If you like to be "Lost in Translation" then have a nice time. For me, it was a waste of time and I was not the least bit impressed. There are much better films out there, and I can't understand all the hype.

Summary: Lost in Plotless Boredom
Review: What a waste of film and time. Not only did the movie lack any plot whatsoever, there was no climax. I waited for the movie to start, but it actually never did. The movie also inaccurately portrayed Japanese culture by focusing only on the young generation, and only on a minority of that group, nonetheless. It was almost insulting, and the critics who view this movie as "pleasant" are most likely the ones "lost in translation."
