Summary: Zany Comedy delivers on all levels
Review: When Barbra first read the script for this movie, she basically thought it was an unfunny peice of glop, and threatened not to make the movie. Fortunately she decided to become a part of Bodganocish classic, and we are all the better for it. Whats up Doc is a delightfule comic romp, which not only provides its principals(streisand and O'neal) with many hilarious lined, but well served the multi-talented ensemble cast. Madeline Kahn, as Howards, eccentric, obsessive and whining, fiancee steals nearly every scene that she and her sturdy red wig are a part of. The only downside to her brilliance is that she isnt in every scene of the movie. Highlights include a hilarious dinner, and chase scene in which Bogdnanovichs expert comic timing, shines through.

Summary: Utterly Brilliant Screwball Comedy
Review: Peter Bogdonavich and Buck Henry's rift on the classic "Bringing Up Baby" is one of the funniest films ever made. As a kid I ddn't even like Barbra Streisand, but became a fan after seeing this film. You can't ask for better. Plus, the chase scenes through the streets of San Francisco have never been equalled, with the possible exception of films like "Bullitt"Why isn't Warners putting this film on DVD in a new anamorphic transfer?

Review: I first saw this film as child, have screened it many times since and recently watched it again to satisfy a craving for slapstick. "What's up Doc?" is a terrific homage to the kind of movies that were made thirty years before its time. I don't want to make little of the contribution of the director, writer, or two leads in this film, but after my most recent screening, I had to stop and give thanks for the comic genius of the late Madeleine Kahn. This was Kahn's debut and her portrayal of Eunice Burns is perfect...that is, perfectly hilarious. The wig, the walk, the wavering voice, and the many other subtleties written into this character (including her choice of bedtime reading) complete the persona and I could not help but to think of the talent and perfect timing of Charlie Chaplin when trying to write about Kahn's body of work. She will be sadly missed.

Review: This is one of my emergency movies-(along with "Murder By Death"), it always makes me forget why I was feeling down. The color of the film, the setting in San Francisco, the pure escapism is unmatched..."Don't you know the meaning of propriety?", "What wine are you serving at table six?", and the immortal, "Snakes live in mortal fear of...tile!" make me laugh outloud at sometimes inappropriate times. But there's always a place for humor and "What's Up Doc" sure knows its place.

Summary: A True Comedic Gem
Review: This movie was one of my favorites as a child and even now, 25+ years later, it still tickles my funny bone! When I saw it in the 70's, it was the first time for me to see Barbra and Ryan in a movie. They are hilarious and look great. They make a great "on-screen" couple! The late Madeline Kahn is a real gem here also - she is wonderful in each and every scene. There are almost too many funny scenes to mention here. Scenes to look for are the drug store, the Laraby dinner party, the bubble bath, the fiasco in Howard's room (just listening to Madeline Kahn rant and rave to Howard during this scene cracks me up!) and who could forget Barbra singing to Ryan on top of the piano! I also love the scene in the court room. The judge is one of my favorites! He is hilarious! Not to be missed - a real funny movie that has never lost it's charm! This was a movie my parents and I would watch in the 70's every time it was on TV. Now I can enjoy it over and over on video. The only thing that is missing now is a DVD version! Hopefully this will be soon, and when they do, it will include all the outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage! A wonderful movie that will make you laugh and smile, and a "G" rating to boot, something the whole familiy can enjoy - which these days, is hard to come by! ENJOY!

Summary: Priceless screwball comedy
Review: Frankly, given a choice between "What's Up, Doc?" and the overrated "Bringing Up Baby," I'll take Bogdanovich's valentine to classic screwball comedies every time. Barbra Streisand may never again be this loose and funny on screen, and the late Madeline Kahn makes every moment a revelation. I'll never forget seeing a retrospective screening of this movie in a theatre a few years back -- people actually started laughing at the *beginning* of scenes that they were looking forward to seeing yet again. I myself try to revisit this gem at least once a year. Hey, where's the DVD?

Summary: Streisand & Cast Are Screwball-Hilarious
Review: WHAT'S UP DOC? is a "Streisand" movie, but the supporting players are just as much responsible for its success. I echo the previous reviewer and dare you to take your eyes off of Madelaine Kahn as Eunice. ("Eunice? That's a person called Eunice?") She is absolutely hilarious as she counts to ten, badgers fiance Howard Banister ("as in 'up the...'"), and reads "A Woman's Guide To Sex" in bed -- a hilarious character moment. The script by Buck Henry is full of little comic gems of lines. One of my favorites: "Has anyone ever told you that you're very sexy?" "Well actually, no." "They never will." Streisand is gorgeous with her long hair and tanned body. Ryan ONeal is very good as a bewildered musicologist. Streisand gets a great singing moment perched on top of a piano as she seduces ONeal with "As Time Goes By". There are so many funny moments in this film: the chase through San Francisco, the courtroom scene at the end ("First there was this trouble between me and Hugh." ... "You and me? " .. "No, me and Hugh." ... "Stop that! Make him stop saying that! ") and of course, Streisand in the towel out the window. This is truly a funny, madcap kind of old fashioned movie. I highly recommend it. Let's hope for a crystal clear DVD version that includes all of those hilarious Bogdonovich outtakes -- are you listening out there?

Summary: MOST LAUGHS EVER
Review: This movie just cracks you up. The twisted plot involving Howard's rocks and stolen files and ... could not be sillier, but that is the point. Throw in a couple of romances, a crazy and rich old lady with stolen jewelry, a bevy of lunatic rock collectors, and a matronly fiancee, and you have a delectable brew for Bogdanovich to whip with relish -- and he does. The performances are uniformly superb, but c'mon, Madeline Kahn blows everyone away with her Eunice Burns, which has made me laugh unfailingly since I was 11 years old. Ryan O'Neal has never been more appealing, and Barbra Streisand, in a non-singing role, displays her considerable comic gifts with ease. The slapstick-driven plot, with its sunny San Francisco locales, never lets up, and builds to a thoroughly satisfy movie-comedy ending. This movie has a sense of sophistication and yet remains innocent fun. I have never laughed this much -- and for this long -- at -- and with -- a movie before or since.

Summary: It just came out of the faucet that way!
Review: I highly agree that this is the funniest movie of all time. If you've never seen it, you have missed the all time great comedy. I agree with the reviewer who wrote about their family having whole conversations with the gag lines in this movie. My family has to watch it every so often and renew our sense of humor. I showed this to my radio/TV class and they couldn't believe such an "old" movie could be so good. Even today's teenagers can appreciate the timeless comedy. Wish there were more like it!

Review: A pure 10! The entire cast is fantastic, especially Streisand and Kahn. Warner Bros. should definately remaster the film and release it on DVD.
