Summary: This movie is the FUNNIEST movie ever made.
Review: My family and I carry on whole conversations with lines from this movie. When someone is upset my brother will say, "Are you alright, Mr. Larrabee, can I help?" We just love to say "What more can they do to me?" And, "I think you dropped something" and "GET OUT!" "Right now?" Yes...NO!" "Mr. Larrabee, I like to say, I love your hair!" I will never be able to give this movie the praise it deserves because I could only give it at the most five stars. I can only say, "You're the top!"

Review: What's Up Doc? Having literally grown up with this movie, I have seen this movie countless times and enjoy it more every time. Madeline Kahn is priceless in her role of "Eunice Burns". The music convention scene and the final chase scene are some of the best slapstick ever made! Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal are as good as Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant. The one liners in this film are the best, "I know what you mean, I hate it when my igneous rocks are even touched"!

Review: I first saw this movie as a small child, and have repeatedly rented it over the years. I finally purchased it to add to my Streisand collection. I only wish that Barbra would have done more slapstick comedy. She has a realgenius for the medium.

Review: this movie disproves the current theory that you have to have sex and profanity to be a box office hit. It is laughs all the way and the surprise ending is wonderful. It is a movie that can be watched by the whole family and the whole family will enjoy it!!! We watch it several times a year and decided we should buy it and save on rental fees.

Review: Coming off 'Love Story', Ryan O'Neal gets in a good dig at himself here... Streisand has never been better, she's brassy and plays the bull to the movie's china shop. The supporting cast is exceptional- I watch it with my family at least once a year!

Summary: A regular laugh-riot...
Review: "What's Up, Doc?" easily gets a '10'. It is Streisand's funniest role to date. The supporting cast are hilarious and perfect in their parts. Ryan O'Neal plays Dr. Howard Bannister, a musicologist who has examined the musical qualities of igneous rocks. Madeleine Kahn, who plays his fiance ("There's a poysin named Eunice?"), is a gem, a gem! C'mon, Bannister, ADMIT that she's a gem!
Filmed on location in San Francisco, Bogdanovich may never be able to film there again. Without permission from the City, he shot one scene in which a wild car chase ensues down a flight of concrete steps at a city park. The steps were badly damaged during the shot and I hope the City has forgiven Bogdanovich because this scene is the antithesis of the car chase in "Bullitt". See this movie! END

Summary: What's Up, Doc? is comedy at it's very best!
Review: What's up, Doc?" defined Barbara Streisand and director Peter Bogdanovich. Unfortunately, they didn't produce enough works making this gem an all time classic comedy, one of the ten best ever made. Madeline Kahn (who later joined in as an integral part of Mel Brooks Troope) is introduced in her first feature film as the frumpy bride-to-be opposite Ryan O'Niel in a story which will keep you laughing from the opening sequence to the last line where O'Niel takes a comic jab at his own "heart wrenching" performance in the gushy movie "Love Story" a year earlier. The supporting cast and chemistry throughout is unmatched except perhaps in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" of the same era. "What's up, Doc?" even includes one of the more original and hilarious chase scenes ever filmed. This is truly "G-type" family entertainment which will last for generations. It reminds us that Hollywood is capable of creating great entertaining works when it wants to. If Streisand is remembered for anything of value (which means ignoring her political views) this film rewards us with the treasure and depth of her comedic talent. In light of her earlier performances it makes us wonder why Streisand ever stopped doing comic roles? Perhaps she wanted an Oscar more than the pure joy given to her audience by making them laugh. She was more gifted than Lucy, Gracy (Allyn) and Ann Southern combined. Streisand will forever be remembered by the left for her quasi communistic views; by the people of her faith for a beautiful film called Yentle; by everyone else for her range, depth, color and tone of voice. But, those of us who love the pure joy of great entertainment will remember Streisand for this film. My children love it and so will their children. Barbara, you have such tremendous talent - please do something like this again!

Summary: Streisand & Cast Are Screwball-Hilarious
Review: WHAT'S UP DOC? is a "Streisand" movie, but the supporting players are just as much responsible for its success. I echo the previous reviewer and dare you to take your eyes off of Madelaine Kahn as Eunice. ("Eunice? That's a person called Eunice?") She is absolutely hilarious as she counts to ten, badgers fiance Howard Banister ("as in 'up the...'"), and reads "A Woman's Guide To Sex" in bed -- a hilarious character moment. The script by Buck Henry is full of little comic gems of lines. One of my favorites: "Has anyone ever told you that you're very sexy?" "Well actually, no." "They never will." Streisand is gorgeous with her long hair and tanned body. Ryan ONeal is very good as a bewildered musicologist. Streisand gets a great singing moment perched on top of a piano as she seduces ONeal with "As Time Goes By". There are so many funny moments in this film: the chase through San Francisco, the courtroom scene at the end ("First there was this trouble between me and Hugh." ... "You and me? " .. "No, me and Hugh." ... "Stop that! Make him stop saying that! ") and of course, Streisand in the towel out the window. This is truly a funny, madcap kind of old fashioned movie. I highly recommend it. Let's hope for a crystal clear DVD version that includes all of those hilarious Bogdonovich outtakes -- are you listening out there?

Translation - they have cut off the top & bottom
of the original film.
The witty dialogue remains; but,
it takes away from the sight gags
and that wonderful San Francisco scenery.

Review: Ryan O'Neal is perfectly cast as a perennially confused scientist with little in the way of social skills. Barbra Streisand is effortless as an oblivious but insightful troublemaker. Madeline Kahn is a natural as a naggy fiance. A witty script and great acting make this one of the best comedies of all time. Some comedies you rent and take back. This one you should own.
