Summary: Ace in the Hole
Review: Classic Jim Carrey. No question his zanniest performace. If you love to laugh outloud, then see, buy this movie. Jim's antics are beyond memorable and will endure in the world of comedy for ever. If you follow this movie with Dumb and Dumber, your abdominal muscles will be sore.

Summary: FUNNY BUT LACKING IN PLOT
Review: This is the movie that really kickstarted the careers of Jim Carrey and Courteney Cox although it is Carrey who makes this movie all his own by his wild and energetic performance as a half-insane Pet Detective. In case you're wondering that's a detective who tracks down missing animals. I'm told they really do exist.

Courteney Cox plays a boss for the Miami Dolphins who hires Ace to find their missing mascot. They can't play without having their mascot y' know. The dolphin is called Snowflake and someone, perhaps a former player with a grudge, is holding him hostage. So Cox decides to hire Ace to get him back.

The film has a cheap look to at and doesn't look as sophisticated as the sequel. But Ace does have some human characteristics in this one, he's not the complete psycho he was in When Nature Calls.

If only the dumb plot could have been more serious. It has some nasty parts to it such as a murder of a likeable character, but then it throws away any kind of reality for a dumb "twist" at the end.

I like this movie and I like the sequel more. I hope for a Ace Ventura 3 someday but this one seems too childish. It ought to have been a little harder and edgier. If it had done so it would be a cool movie. As it is...it's a half-decent timewaster.

Region 1 buyers should note that the movie is in Pan and Scan but the Region 2 release is in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. It may lack the 5.1 track (it's in 2.0 surround) and the commentary, but if OAR is your thing then the R2 release is the one to go for.

Summary: MOVIE GREAT!!!!! DVD QUITE POOR!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I LOVE THE MOVIE!!!! Ive just about worn out a tape that was recorded off of HBO and somewaht of a recently purched one,,,,,,,,,,,
so iam glad I have it on DVD,,,,, anyway ive braged about the moive,,,,, now the DVD is transfered with good care
but WEARS THE EXTRA FUEATURES!! I mean like ALL of the deleted scens they only add in 1 breif one,,,,, it wouldent hurt to see some sort of behind the scens and a nother commintary by Jim Carry
The Commintary is quite poor in my opion, The Director even admited not to seeing the whole moive in about 2 years,, he should have watched it once! atleast to get some memery jogging instad of doing it right there in the commintary,,,
From what I hear this was kinda Jim Carry's debut movie e does a good job,,,
If your a Ace or Jim Carry fan buy it!.

Summary: When is a widescreen DVD going to be available?
Review: Ace Ventura Pet Detective is one of the funniest comedy movies I have ever watched and stars two of my favorite actors, Jim Carey and Courteney Cox, I wanted to replace my full screen video to DVD but since the DVD is not available in widescreen but only an edited to fit your television full screen I just don't see the point of replacing it right now when it will just be the same as the video, it's truly a wonderful hilarious belly buster but I will wait until a widescreen DVD is made available or a DVD that includes both a widescreen and full screen version and I would like to know why the sequel When Nature Calls which is not as funny as Pet Detective is available in a DVD that includes the choice of both widescreen and full screen and not Pet Detective which is the first movie in the series? So until than I will just stick with my video.

Summary: AVPD
Review: VERY funny. A detective investigates the theft of the Miami Dolphins mascot, a dolphin. Pretty good, but they COULD cut down a bit on the dirty jokes.

Summary: Jim Carrey Must Be Made Of Rubber!
Review: One of the most talented physical comedians since Milton Berle, Steve Martin and Lucy herself - Jim Carrey must be mad eof rubber! He is physically a funny man and relies a lot of his visual expressions to convey the comedy. Not just facial expressions, but his entire body.

He crackes me up! (My favorite comedy film of his Lier Lier.)

Okay the premise is that Ace Ventura (named after California's San Fernando Valley's favorite Boulevard) is a PET DETECTIVE. He seeks out and finds missing pets. The big case in this one, a missing Dolphine. You'd think it would be easy to find? Not.

His physical comedy of..., insane football antics and the obviously spontaneous responses to the various staight acting performers around him, make this a completely enjoyable film. Great scenes, set-ups and moments make this film. Remember, this is not BRAIN FOOD!!

I laughed sooooo hard! Buy this one!

Summary: Jim Carrey's best performance
Review: Ace Ventura is an absolutely hillarious comedy in which Ace Ventura is a pet detective. When someone steals the Miami Dolphins dolphin (snowflake) He gets hired to find snowflake. With this kind of story along with Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura it's certainly one of the funniest movies ever.

Summary: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective review
Review: I remember when I first heard of this film and I thought it sounded like a stupid, slapstick comedy...And I was right. But yet, it's so hilarious you can't help but laugh. The script is very stupid and odd because many of the situations that occur have outcomes that you usually wouldn't expect. The Shark scene was hilarious even though it was stupid because the shark ripped his pants up but Ace doesn't have a single cut on him. The part where he catches the bullet with his teeth was predictable(I thought it was gonna split his hair)but the rest of the chase scene was pretty funny. Jim Carrey is a great comedian, even though comedy and family is about all he can do(He was pretty bad in The Majestic and Batman Forever.) FRIENDS and SCREAM star Courtney Cox is great as Melissa, even though you knew her and Ace would get in the sack sooner or later. Dan Marino's pretty likable in this film and the part where he and Ace insult eachother was great. Then there's Sean Young as Lt.Einhorn. Well, I think they should of hired someone else. Mainly because...plain horrible. Yeah, she's supposed to be the tough cop character, but she's too tough and insults Ace way too much, which makes her obviously suspicious. What happened to her at the end was funny, stupid and gross. Funny because she's this tough girl cop and here Ace is ripping her clothes off right in front of the whole squad. Stupid because she's just standing there, letting him strip her half-naked and Gross because, well, I'm not gonna give it away...

Summary: Pure junk
Review: I was forced to watch this piece of ...(junk) in the theaters. I'm not going to mince words here. It's too bad ...(this website) requires you to censor yourself. Anyway, what is it with people that think Jim Carrey is a brilliant actor? He's just imitating Jerry Lewis. .... Anyway, remarkably I sat through the whole movie, but I was itching to get out of there. What a waste of film. No wonder the country is in the toilet.

Summary: An wild, dumb, detective story for Animals.
Review: When an missing animal from the Football team mascot`s:The Dolphin has been stolen. When an animal goof-ball detective named Ace Ventura (Jim Carrey in a over the top comic performance) has been hiring to find the team`s fish but not everything as it seems, when a female rough police detective (Sean Young) wants the case badly but Ace doesn`t share the case and he will do anything to find the Dolphin.

This crude comedy was a Box Office smash back in the winter of 1994. The Television network from American Broadcast Company (ABC) added Five minutes of Additional Footage and Deleted some of the Crude Humour. Directed by Tom Shadyac (Patch Adams). Grade:B+.
