Summary: The greatest unsung comedy of the '90s!
Review: No one saw this movie when it was released except for hard-core Kids in the Hall fans and most of them were disappointed due to the fact that it was not a collection of their best-known characters. What a crime. "Brain Candy" is one of the best comedies of the '90s, a film full of the troupe's bizarre, sometimes-morbid character-driven humor. The group was having many internal difficulties at the time they made this film (indeed, David Foley didn't even end up contributing to the final draft of the screenplay due to "Newsradio" commitments) and it gives the whole affair a very aggessive, intense feeling. All five Kids essay several roles each (though Foley, while appearing throughout, is given a tad less to do than the others - perhaps as punishment) and all give excellent performances (though Bruce McCulloch comes close to walking off with the entire film). The plot concerns a team of scientists, led by Kevin McDonald's Dr. Chris Cooper, who come out with a wonder drug, Gleemonex, which cures chronic depression. However, before it can be tested, it is rushed out to the public by greedy pharmaceutical magnate Don Roritor (Mark McKinney doing a very thinly-veiled Lorne Michaels impression). Of course, the drug turns out to have a big side effect... The laughs are more based on performance and situation, though there are tons of quotable lines and jokes. The viewer looking for scatalogical, broad, or slapstick comedy will be sorely disappointed. Kelly Makin's direction and the production design are great, as well. A few TV characters pop up in cameos (McCulloch & McKinney's Policemen, for instance) but the majority are originals. Unfortunatetly, the DVD seems to have no extras, even though a sublot involving Foley as a disgruntled fry cook turned cult leader, a cameo by Janeane Garofalo as a scientist groupie, and an alternate ending exist. That the studio hasn't deemed this footage worthy of DVD release is yet another symptom of the film's lack of box office performance. Oh well, it's still a stone cold classic just as it is.

Summary: A CD you can listen to from beginning to end
Review: This cd is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. It provides a wide variety of bands, quirky songs, and it all fits into the movie perfectly. Even if you don't like Kids in the Hall, or the movie, I would definately recommend anyone give this cd a listen. You might be surprised. My favorite songs on the album, Cibo Matto's "Birthday Cake" and Pizzicato Five's "Nata Di Marzo" were the songs that drove me into the JPop genre of music I now love. The "Brain Candy" Soundtrack provides everything for everyone.

Summary: The Kids drop the ball
Review: Don't get me wrong--I love the Kids in the Hall. My wife and I never miss them on Comedy Central. We have tickets to see them in LA on their 2002 tour. However, I was amazed that they produced such a dull film. The premise, a new drug that makes the taker deliriously happy, would have made for a funny skit, but here it is inflated to a length that cannot be sustained. The Kids' forte is sketch comedy; they are every bit as good as Monty Python or the better SNL casts. I wish they had played to their strength here and done something more along the lines of "The Meaning of Life" or "And Now for Something Completely Different," Monty Python's classic big screen collections of hilarious skits. I hope they get another chance to do it right.

Summary: A comedy that rocks your brain upside down!
Review: Roritor Pharmaceuticals is in danger of losing a ton of money. Along comes Chris Cooper (Kevin McDonald) who invents a super anti-depressant and Roritor thinks it's found a winner. Despite Chris' misgivings, the drug gets marketed anyway and is named Gleemonex. Soon, everybody wants to take it - because it WORKS! Unfortunately, it has a terrible side effect - it makes the patients become catatonic, stuck in their happy memory. Can Chris save the victims of Gleemonex? Will anyone care?This is one funny movie! Even though I am still a newish Kids in the Hall fan, I thought "Brain Candy" was hysterical! Each member of this comedy troupe shows versatility and comic flair with each character they play.

Summary: The Kids in typical KITH form, eh?
Review: I'd have given it four stars, but the Kithie in me demands I give it five. What can I say? I thought it was hilarious. I love The Kids, and this movie is basically one big in-joke that non-Kithies won't get. Love the cameos by Melanie and the Police Department cops, and how the Bigot Cabbie serves as a sort-of narrator. If you're a fan of the show, you'll love it. If you're not, there's a lot you'll be missing.

Summary: The Best comedy since Monty Python and the Holy Grail!
Review: I have been a fan of KiTH since June 2001 and I just rented this movie and it is hillarious! It`s true to the absurdity of the t.v. show too.Though I must say this movie is not for easily offended ex-girlfriends,gay-men,corperate exec.s,corperate yes men,or anyone related to a flipper-baby,ect.For all of you guys who don`t know what a flipper-baby is there was this medicine that when given to expecting moms,produced babies with flippers instead of arms and legs.For evreyone else buy this movie now.
P.s.It also has a great twist ending,like Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Summary: Brilliant
Review: I would say, along with Ruhmore, Fight Club, and Being John Malcovitz, Brain Candy is one of the best movies of the 90's. The Kids in the Hall really knew what they were doing when they made this. The writing is ingenious. The film looks realy good. I'm glad the Kids in the Hall chose Mr. Kelly Makinto direct this film.
I'm tired of people calling this movie a "Saturday Night Live" type movie, where the show is funny and the movies are terrible. True, the Saturday Night Live films are bad, but this is not the case for Kids in the Hall.
The performances by the Kids in this movie are all amazing, but the one that stands out is Mark Mckinney. He was great in the show, but in Brain Candy he really shines.
I was a Big fan of KITH before I had even heard of this movie. As soon as I saw this movie I bought it. So get it, you won't regret it.

Review: Why must we be insulted by this inane comedy from a comedy group that were never, ever funny. They are as weird, bland, and boring as it can get. So is this mess of a movie.

Review: If I hadn't seen this, I wouldn't be as happy as I am now. Its definitely the funniest thing I have ever seen. I even bought the soundtrack. It is great too. I am a big fan of Mark McKinney, and if you are too, he has probably the most roles in this movie of anyone. Please get this movie, its for your own good.

Review: I dedicate all my time to the Kids in the Hall. Brain Candy is an excellent movie, and the cd is also great. It has music for every taste. It's like watching scenes from the movie without actually watching it. You'll regret it if you don't buy it.
