Rating: Summary: How can you not like this movie? Review: This along with it's sequel has to be one of the best mood changing movies of all time. If you are in a bad mood and it's raining outside, put this movie in and you will feel a lot better. There is no underlying theme, no social commentary, just a nice comedy that will brighten your day.
Rating: Summary: Laugh Out Loud Funny!!! Review: I absolutely loved this movie, not only because of the great writing, but because of the cast that brought the characters to life. The one who stands out, as many people know, is the wonderful Steve Martin who gives a terrific, hilarious performance as George Banks, a father who just wants to see his daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams) after she has returned from Rome. His reaction to her announcement is stupendous. I love the way the producers decided to suddenly make Annie a little girl of probably five years old. Diane Keaton is wonderful as George's wife, Nina. She is the one who is in control the whole time, and who keeps her husband from doing really stupid things. I especially loved the scene where she goes to bail him out of jail and makes him promise a few things before letting him out. It was great! Kimberly Williams is wonderful as Annie Banks. You can really see how much she loves her dad, even when he does not-so-smart things, like taking the McKenzie's bank book and then accidentally throwing it into the pool, which results in *him* falling into the pool! And how can anyone forget Martin Short. He was so, so funny as Franck (not Frank!), the Wedding Coordinator. His accent is so funny and very original. It makes me wonder if he thought it up himself. If you want to see a funny and quite original, I might add, comedy, see this one. You won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Funny and Hilarious!! Review: Haha, this movie is a must see! It's absolutely hilarious! It reminds me of my own family in a way so that makes it even funnier. This movie never gets old for me. I love the character that Martin Short plays, he's absolutely hilarious! If you love a good laugh every once in a while then I highly recommend this one! I would also get the second movie Father of the Bride part 2, that one is hysterically funny too! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Delightful Movie! Review: I like this movie and I think Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Kimberly Williams are all great in it and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to watch a delightful movie but as much as I like this movie I actually like the sequel Father Of The Bride Part II even more but both movies are a delight to watch!
Rating: Summary: ENCHANTING UPDATE OF A MUCH LOVED CLASSIC! Review: This is one instance where I think the remake has actually improved on the orginal. Director Vincente Minnelli's original "Father of the Bride" starred Spencer Tracy as the father and Elizabeth Taylor as the bride. But the source material hasn't dated very well, particularly the over the top, Salvidor Dali-esque dream sequence. Nice to see that this remake with Steve Martin and Kimberly Williams doesn't make the same mistakes and actually improves upon the original formula. Martin Short makes a welcomed edition to the cast this time around as the manic wedding co-ordinator. In a nut shell, George Banks (Martin) finds himself the victim of a family coup when his daughter (Williams) announces her pending marriage. The DVD transfer from Touchstone/Disney is simply unacceptable. It's widescreen but not anamorphic. Contrast levels are extremely low. And although there are no digital anomolies to speak of (aliasing, shimmering, edge enhancement) color balancing is weak and in some cases, colors bleed. The scenes at the Banks home early on are excessively pink and orange while night scenes tend to be too blue. The soundtrack is adequate but just barely. No extra features. This is definitely a film that could stand a new "Vista Series" deluxe edition!
Rating: Summary: WHAT A WASTE! Review: Don't get me wrong i have nothing against steve martin but this movie is very feminine...I mean its not a movie u should buy...martin short is pretty funny and everthing...but this movie is really just suitible for 10 year old girls. Deff. Not a quality film. Its pretty sad becuase steve martin has some classis movie but this is not one of them...i mean the movie goes just a tad overboard..I suggest u buy movie like the parents trap.but don't waste ur time on this..
Rating: Summary: very cute and charming Review: George Banks' cherished daughter Annie has just returned from studying abroad in Italy and she is engaged (Aaaaaaaaugh! she screams excitedly after delivering this news at the dinner table.) This doesn't sit well with George, who hasn't even met this Prince Charming and must now fork over for a wedding that just symbolizes that his little girl is leaving him. Annie decides she wants the wedding to be at home. One of the most hilarious scenes is George's daydream about a wedding in the backyard -- people dressed up for a simple barbecue, and he is grilling "the Bride burger" and "the Groom burger" for the toasted couple. His wife Nina knocks some sense into him, asking what do they save money for if they can't bother to give their only daughter a nice wedding. George agrees, and a hilarious, barely intelligible "lots of fun" wedding planner in the guise of Martin Short enters the movie and takes over their house. Soon he is planting tulips (which can't survive their climate) and putting live swans (ditto) in their yard as the dream wedding mushrooms out of control. Still, underneath all the hilarity is true sentiment of shifting relationships which all weddings bring, and the stress of changes on fathers, mothers and brides. It's really cute and well-done.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie...... Review: This is a winner!!! Get it - Watch it... & it'll be one of those you'll watch again & again! Also Father of the Bride II, another winner you'll also watch again & again! *I own both... on VHS first... & now since have bought them both in DVD!* One of Steve & Diane's best movie's!
Rating: Summary: A Father's Love. Review: FATHER OF THE BRIDE is a romantic comedy in a different vein. Most movies of that type are about a boy meeting a girl and the two falling in love. That happens in FATHER OF THE BRIDE. However, the movie isn't about the romantic love between a couple; it's about a father's love for his daughter. It is true that the cast didn't have very difficult roles. Nevertheless, Steve Martin, Dianne Keaton, Kimberly Williams and the rest of the cast do a remarkable job, making the Banks family seem like real people you know instead of just some characters on a screen. Also, Martin Short, as the wedding coordinator, Franc, steals every scene he is in. I enjoyed watching this film alot. I laughed quite often and, even though I'm a bachelor, found myself crying during some scenes. The film is a family picture and for any man who has a daughter, ranks up with FIELD OF DREAMS for bringing a tear to your eye. It's a nice movie to bring the past into prespective, remind one of what really is important in life, and thank God for the blessings you have.
