Rating: Summary: Very Very Funny Review: This film has got to be one of Sandra's best films to date. Miss Congenialty is about a cop who has to go under cover at a beauty contest to try and foil an atempt to kill the winner. The eprson chosen to go under cover is Sandra, but the only trouble is shes a bit of a tomboy. Sandra doesn't belive in beauty contests and walks talks and acts like a man so you can guess the fun that they will have trying to make Sandra look the part. This film is very funny and full of gags all the way from showing that Sandra is an excellent actress and can adapt to all roles
Rating: Summary: My opinion...for what it's worth.. Review: I find it hard to believe that the so called "experts" and believe me, i use the term extremely lightly and with great hesitation, could give this excellent movie bad reviews. Are we talking about the same film here? By reading the reviews contributed by "ordinary" people, the ones who pay to go and see the films, i was not at all suprised to see, that for the most part, they were positive. This film is thoroughly enjoyable and utterly hilarious. Yes, its not the number one movie of all time... but it does it claim to be. This movie is all about fun. The actors aren't afraid to poke fun at themselves, and in return for their efforts, are rewarded by getting a chuckle out of the audience. The script is blessed with witty dialogue.. and some of the one liners, have to be heard to be believed, especially those Michael Cain ( who plays Bullock's pageant coach ) has the luck to deliver. Of course with the on-screen chemistry between Bullock and Bratt, the romance angle is well covered. As too, is the action, and if you look quick enough, you might even spy a dramatic moment or two... Overall, this is a most delightful, uplifting comedy, that delivers when it comes to laughs. Caine is at his comedic best, Bratt gives it his all, and Bullock shines. No, "experts", you are quite right, it's not brain surgery. Its a movie..and a brilliant one at that.
Rating: Summary: Very good and entertaining movie Review: This film it's well really very funny, really very good perfomances, well it's really very good, the only flaws it's that it's a bit predictable, but it's really very good, this film it's not worth owning on DVD, but perhaps on VHS.
Rating: Summary: Best comedy in a while Review: So many movies these days turn to sex and violence for entertainment, but this movie reminded me that even a clean movie can be extremely entertaining. Sandra Bullock does an outstanding job in this film. The laughs keep on coming. I haven't seen a movie this funny in ages.
Rating: Summary: BULLOCK GOES BUTCH Review: OK, just who's really America's Sweetheart? Is it Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock? The real test is can she survive a movie misfire and still be lovable. Sandra does just that in this slightly off-center attempt at a screwball comedy with a dramatic center. The premise almost works: A tom-boy FBI agent is forced to go get all girlie and go under cover as a beauty contestant to find a killer. Unfortunately, Bullock's character is also made out to be a klutz. Not only that, she has a mannish walk, talks with her mouth full, a snorts when she laughs and has unplucked eyebrows. It's almost like the original premise was: The Butch and the Beauty but someone wimped out and watered down the core idea until it's a mish-mash of tired one-liners and a tacked on love story. Listening to the audio commentary by self-absorbed writer Marc Lawrence and a plucky Bullock, one gets the idea that the failure of this valiant, too long, but still entertaining film is not enough passes in the screenplay and a creative producer (Bullock) who lost control of the basic concept. Besides Lawrence, Katie Ford and Caryn Lucas are the other credited writers. The non-direction is by Donald Petrie. Beware of their names on a movie. (Color, Widescreen, 110 Minutes, Dolby Surround, Rated PG-13)
Rating: Summary: Hilarious movie! Review: I am sorry but I get so tired of the poor reviews so many critics write about films such as this movie that are pure enjoyment and entertainment. This movie is just that kind of movie...there is never a dull moment and isn't that part of what movies are all about. Sandra Bullock is perfect for this role and while the premise sounds a little lame before you see the movie after seeing it I think anyone will be pleasantly surprised. If you are expecting an Oscar style movie...no you won't get it. If you are expecting to laugh alot and be entertained...you will be. This movie is totally delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is funny, light, laughable. I loved it and I think anyone else will too if you allow yourself to jsut be entertained. Bullock is so funny and so great at this type of movie and she learns allot about herself throughout the film so there is character growth too. It will also give you a new appreciation for what the women in beauty pageants put themselves through. Bottom line...THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE!!
Rating: Summary: Funny to the tickle bone Review: how can anyone not love sandra bullock. she is so cute. anyways this movie was fantastic. i had such a blast watching it. she is the most hilarious actress around. going from nerd to beauty queen was the funniest. i would recommend this movie to anyone. 5 stars all the way
Rating: Summary: Not at all good, but it has it's moments Review: This movie's pretty bad and all, but every once in a while, someone will say or do something that's really funny. And while most people are driven to the brink of insanity by William Shatner's "singing," I find it amusing. Bullock's likable, as usual. Bratt isn't really but kinda, also pretty standard. Totally ridiculous, implausible, and old-hat, but not unbearable to watch on a slow night.
Rating: Summary: A waste of talent? Review: Sandra Bullock is a charismatic and talented actress so she really deserves better than this banal comedy. Sandra plays Gracie Hart, a tough, un-feminine FBI agent who has to go undercover at a beauty pageant. The best comedy moments are thus supplied by Michael Caine's Victor Melling teaching Gracie how to act like a beauty queen. There are no big laughs as the film is never allowed to parody it's subject to then hilt. The filmmakers were too busy making sure we realised beauty queens were people too, this weakens what could have been a great satire. The script is quite limp and to their credit the cast do well with what there is. A word of warning though, the best joke was in the advert. Sandra Bullock is still as watchable as ever and along with Michael Caine saves the film. However I never once found her believable as an ugly duckling, in need of transformation. Maybe it's just me but I found her as attractive at the start as I did at the end. I did not hate this film and any Sandra Bullock fan (myself included) will be more than happy to put up with the inadaquacies in the film. But she deserves much better and I can only hope that her next film delivers.
