Summary: "A Visual Masterpiece" One Of The Years Best
Review: When I saw this movie i was totally in to it. All the Cast was excellent. Toby Maguire was excellent and Joan Allen as the housewife. William H Macey was very good and Reese Witherspoon was also good. the Humor in the movie is very funny and the visual effects i don't know why this wasn't nominated for Best Visual Effects because they were excellent. The Music score from Randy Newman was very well done and all the music was excellent in the movie. This is one of the years Best films Why this wasn't nominated for best picture i will never know all i know this should have been nominated at least if it won good if it didn't Saving Private Ryan should won it instead of Shakespeare In Love i mean please it was good but not that good.

Summary: Good, solid film, but not exceptional.
Review: If you liked Truman Show, you'll probably like Pleasantville. This story is about a brother and sister trapped in their own perceptions and identities, who get zapped back to a "perfect urban society", that exists in a 50's good 'ol American family-value's TV show. (Both movies require the viewer turn off his brain -"suspension of reality"- for just a little while, like 120min.)

Both kids are cast as teenage stereotypes-the brother is a "geeky" TV-fan and the sister a "slutty" valley girl) The plot is predictable - Both kids arrive in Pleasantville, the city where parents, kids, and life is just "swell." At first, the movie focuses on the sister's seemingly wild reckless actions - but the brother's good-samaritan gestures (like helping the shop-owner) prove to have the same disruptive effects on the town inhabitants. It's not long until the Old Establishment meet and plot to contain the "damage." Hence, the theme is about the status quo and social change, which both the brother and sister's actions represent.

In simplistic fashion, the sequence of unfolding events teaches us that social change is necessary for growth, even though that growth is uncertain. The later half of the movie gets kinda boring/predictable.

I don't understand how 2 kids can single-handedly undermine the serene status-quo that is Pleasantville. If social equilibrium were really so tenuous, Pleasantville would have self-destructed years ago.

Personally, I think this movie was closer to rated-R than PG-13 (due to the sexual themes presented), but there isn't anything in here that today's American high-school kid hasn't seen or heard about...especially with that recent White House Scandal.

The DVD-transfer is the pretty sharp, though most of the film is deliberately presented in B&W.

Summary: It was a good movie
Review: It's about 2 teens from the 90's that go back to this 50's show. First it starts of at a high school where a brother and sister go to. The brother is a straight-A good student who loves the show Pleasantville. The sister is a straight F student who smokes drugs and goes out with guys. When the brother and sister gets home they fight over a remote control and break it. Then this phony remote control fixer gives them a magical remote control. They turn on the T.V. and land on the show Pleasantville. The brother is now playing Bud a person who works in a restaurant and goes to high school. The sister is now Mary Sue a nice sweet girl who goes to high school. One of the guys from the basketball team asks out Mary Sue. They go out together and kiss in a very unpleasant way (starts with a s and latin word for six). The brother gets upset and makes a fit over her sister. Then a fire burn on a tree and the fire department came and didn't know what to do so Bud puts out the fire and the whole town is amazed. A girl then gives cookies to Bud for his great achievement. I can go on and on about Pleasantville. All I have to say is this its about 2 teens from the 90's that turn this 50's show upside down. Go see this movie it's really good. I give it two thumbs up

Summary: Not worth watching
Review: Here is a movie that tries very hard to teach a lesson... on what it thinks is colourful in modern world - mainly: sex, lies, adultery and so on...

It's ideas are too shallow and superficial without any thoughts on responsibilities and humanity, moral issues.

A big ZERO.

Summary: Pleasantville--That's Swell
Review: What a great movie! I am more into the action movies with action and great sound, but Pleasantville really doesn't need that. It is just a great down to earth film with a real theme about things in life. It was great! I also thought the extras were great, including the video by Fiona Apple. The song and video complimented the movie perfectly.

Summary: All I can say is WOW!!!!
Review: After my husband and I watched this movie, we couldn't stop saying how wonderful it was. Though we are both avid movie-goers, I can't think of any film which offers as much symbolism as this one. Terrific moments run through the whole movie, however my favourite is the court scene, the images of which were certainly not lost on us. It was the clever (and classic) courtroom scene from To Kill a Mockingbird, with the coloureds upstairs and the whites below. WOW!

This movie is an absolutely brilliant piece of work. It really is a must see.

Summary: Take a fun ride to Pleasantville
Review: If you're looking for an amazing story with oscar worthy performances... this isn't it. It is, however, a good movie. My family sat entranced as we watched the film, and enjoyed the symbolism in the story as well as the story itself. Worth seeing.
