Summary: More like a dark comedy, but great nonetheless
Review: "Risky Business" is without a doubt one of the classics from the 80's which I've continued to enjoy many times. This is simply a great movie with convincing acting, superb music, good script and believable characters. While the plot isn't anything too original, the above mentioned qualities make this movie fun to watch. Tom Cruise, having the house to himself while his parents are away, carries out the fantasy of just about every adolescent male by basically turning his home into a party haven with the inevitable consequences that follow. Rebecca De Mornay (it should be illegal to look that good in a pair of tight jeans!) plays a prostitute that becomes Cruise's "partner" in the scheme of things and Joe Pantoliano plays her sleazy pimp and does a great job in his role.One thing that stands out about "Risky Business" is that while technically a comedy, the tone is often dark in terms of sequence of events and the eerie (yet great) instrumental music that pretty much makes up the soundtrack. While others might not really like this, I think it makes the movie stand out and avoid the over-the-top silliness that have caused many 80's comedies to become dated by today's standards. Don't get me wrong, I love those 80's movies, but "Risky Business" has a certain quality to it that takes on a more serious tone while also maintaining the fun element. And finally, I have to say that the DVD transfer is absolutely horrific. Extras are virtually non-existent and image/sound quality is abysmal. 2003 has come and almost gone, so by now it's pointless to hope for a 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD. So if you intend to buy this get it on VHS. I can't see why anyone would want the DVD other than for longevity's sake.

Review: Anybody reading this that remembers the anxiety of getting into college, and the pressure of peers will absolutely fall in love with this movie. It stars a young an innocent Tom Cruise and a naughty ReBecca DeMorray. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing due to Tangerine Dream's mix of eighties sounds. Also, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, and the Talking Heads are some others that team up to contribute to this movie. Cruise and DeMorray team up to give audiences what may be their best perfomances. A MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Tom's cute-but thats about it
Review: Being the Tom Cruise fan that I am, it's tempting to write a laudatory review saying how great this movie is. However, after seeing it, the only really good part I can think of is when Tom dances around in his underwear. Though that scene is definately a classic that melts the hearts of Tom Cruise fans everywhere, the rest of the movie is just not worth watching. Keep in mind that at a party where there are a lot of people and a lot of joking around, this movie would be fun. Just don't watch it at home with just one friend, it won't be keep your attention. I give this movie three stars because, though not one that I would recommend, there are memorable lines and things that every teenager secretly wishes they had the nerve to do.

Review: Despite the fact that this movie is roundly referred to (perhaps inaccurately) as a "coming-of-age" movie, it is also very much a movie for its time...by the time the 1980's were in full swing, materialism and the drive for success had already taken ahold of a surprisingly large number of teenagers who weren't merely interested in sex, drugs, and rock & roll (at least, not until they got their off-campus housing straightened out in time for the first semester of their Freshman year)...no, it was imperative that the important thing was to obtain a degree in Business Administration and to live happily ever after as a character in a Bret Easton Ellis novel.

As such we have Joel Goodson (Tom Cruise) and his pals, a group of red-blooded American youths who stress over the usual teen angst but with a distinctly '80's flair...how can the future be so bright when you do NOT get to the (Ivy League) school of your choice? Whatever will become of your life if, God forbid, you actually have to enter a publicly funded university?

Everything else seems mildly incidental...there is a hint of "Ferriss Beuller" in that you just KNOW the main character will find a way out of all the bizarre situations that come his way, and like most of John Hughes movies from the same time period, the lifestyle portrayed onscreen may be lost to those of us of middle (or lower middle) class backgrounds, but the slick production, moody photography and fantastic soundtrack make it easy to appreciate regardless...in many ways this is like an extended "Miami Vice" episode...but without the gunplay.

Summary: Cruise's Breakthrough
Review: Great satire that plays on teens worries about being successful later in life and the business world in general. Cruise had appeared in smaller roles in other movies, but this was the one that made him stand out. DeMornay has an interesting take on the hooker with a (somewhat) heart of gold, Joe Pantalino plays a great bad guy, while Curtis Armstrong and Brochot Pinchot bring up the rear as Cruise's buddies. A must-have film.

Summary: Pretty Good Flick
Review: Here we have a movie about a young man who enlists the services of an "interpersonal relationship field technician level one expert".Things get out of hand rather quickly for him and Lana kind of spins his head around-sometimes a woman can do that to a guy.I thought Ms.DeMornay's character was strong and Tom Cruises character was rattlebrained and weak. I thought all the cast fit together good and the movie was great and in the end Joel(Tom) got the break and I guess he got the girl in real life too.Personally I think Tom Cruise is overated as an actor but I'm not a dizzy broad,I'm a guy so I guess it's a girl thing!Anyway it's worth watching!
