Summary: Don't Get This Unless You're Ready To Laugh
Review: Well, I'll start by saying that I've loved Ellen's style since before she came out. I caught part of this on cable and even though I hadn't seen the whole thing, I knew I had to have a copy for myself. Wonderfully, I found it here at an excellent price!
My girl will have you laughing til your eyes water, all the while you will also be trying to say, "I do that!! Oh, geez, I've done that!" (the hateful look) I've seen it more times than I care to admit and I still laugh. Shared it with my teen daughters and they laughed. Showed it to my 60 year old mother and SHE laughed. You don't have to be lesbian to enjoy what she talks about. I really liked the audience comment section at the end - this DVD makes me want to find her in concert and make sure I get there!

Summary: My Point, and I do have one....
Review: What a wonderful performance. I have watched this show many times with my daughter, and we constantly quote from it. Whenever I hear Gloria Estafan, I have to smile. I highly recommend the DVD to anyone, and if you have a chance to see Ellen live, it is well worth the price of admission.

Summary: That show makes your ass look fabulous!
Review: When I first saw "The Beginning," I couldn't stop laughing. Now, after having seen it a few times, I still can't stop laughing. Ellen may not have been completely "on" in terms of her timing, but that didn't make the material any less funny.

The "search for silence" routine was priceless. It's classic Ellen, with the goofy tangents and circuitous timing. Listen carefully on the DVD when Ellen tells her sex toy joke (the "pogo stick"). You'll hear a woman cackling in the background. That woman obviously was busting over with laughter. You'll be busting up, too.

Summary: I laughed until my side hurt...
Review: When this special was being advertised in HBO, I thought, okay, I will watch it. She is funny enough and there is nothing else on tv. I watched it and seriously laughed so hard that my side hurt the next morning. It was Ellen at her absolute funniest (and she is a pretty funny person). She tells a story in a totally casual way and, unlike most comedians, she realizes that the key to being funny is not to laugh at your own jokes, but to keep going like you have no idea that you just said something funny. She is a true artist. Foolishly, I didn't tape it and since then I have been scanning the tv guide for the next time that it would be on. Let me put it this way, I wouldn't be buying this on-line if it was not the funniest thing that I have ever seen and didn't want to watch it over and over again.

Summary: Humble Humor at Her MOST Hysterical
Review: Whether you care for Ellen as a person or not, or have issues wiuth her sexual orientation (or not), the woman is a hoot. This stage performance again proves why that's the case. She is a laugh riot, and makes it look easy...and everyone knows, comedy is the toughest acting job there is. Here, she isn't acting, but rather, sharing stories and moments we can all relate to - gay, straight, Catholic and Jew alike. THAT's what really makes this DVD special - she brings you into her world and you suddenly realize, HER world is YOUR OWN. The heartrending moment she shares with a young lesbian admirer whom considers Ellen a hero - like both straight and gay youth should - will challenge even the harshest critic. Ellen is a humorist for the ages, and for all humanity...above all she is HYSTERICAL...I DARE YOU NOT TO LAUGH and GUFFAW throughout!
