Summary: The funniest movie EVER!!!
Review: I happened to see this movie in the late '80's and laughed until I split a seam. Michael Keaton plays the title character magnificently, and Moroni, has ridiculously funny stand in words for his cussing. The whole movie had me laughing so hard, I had to watch it again to see what I missed the first time around. If you want to see a good "spoof" this is the one to see. It is hilarious.

Summary: Why Does This Movie Get Bad Reviews??
Review: I have NEVER understood why this movie has been so poorly rated. It is hilarious from start to finish; it has fantastic comedic writing and a wonderful cast. Anyone who watched this with me on tape ended up borrowing it, and no one I know agrees with the reviewers; they LIKE this movie! It is a parody of the 1930's gangster movies and, as such is in a class with "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles". Michel Keaton is the title character who turns to a life of "crime" in order to provide for his mother's endless series of life saving surgeries. His old Irish mother is played by Maureen Stapleton (and no one will ever forget "Hi. I'm Ma Kelley and I go both ways"). The characters and the one liners are simply fantastic. I tend to be very critical of movies and books: to "work" they have to occasion that "willful suspension of disbelief" that lets the viewer/reader get "into" the story. In my experience, this is most difficult in a comedy because it is hard to sustain the participation of the viewer in observing the story. However, it happens here seamlessly. I was particularly happy to have the DVD, because my tape was showing its age and use. From a technical point of view, the DVD does what it is supposed to do: crisp, clean and vivid picture and good (pre-Dolby 5.1, though) sound. The price is right, too. If you watch it and disagree with my high regard for this film, send an e-mail. But I'll bet that you find it to be a delightful film.

Review: i have to admit that all a comedy needs to do for me is make me laugh. it doesnt have to be a great story or be completely dedicated to its subject matter as in a normal film. most comedys have a thinly veiled story with numerous jokes to keep the audience laughing and Johnny dangerously is one of those films. although the pinnacle of the film is the abuse of Roman Marone's foreign accent, there are so many other great jokes here. the acting is bad, and probably intentional since the fourth wall seems to be nonexistant and well thought out jokes make you laugh without thinking. they take advantage of their surroundings and the time frame of the film for some really hilarious moments. this may not be comedy royalty but its ten times funnier than some other spoofs by the Wayans Brothers (with the exception of Im Gonna Get you Sucka) or even the Hot Shots series.

Review: I saw this movie when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Ever since then, I have always loved it. I finally found this movie....not in Beta format, and I watch it constantly still!!The great grammer of Roman Moronie, helps me out when I can't be a potty mouth! "Search The Somunna Betch!"

Review: I thought that this was a WONDERFUL takedown of all the mob films. The scenes with Dangerously, and Vermin were a riot! Micheal Keaton gave yet another outstanding performence as Johnny Dangerously... This film will keep you laughing from start to finish! The guy who messes up the english language is a real bust in the gut too! Look for a cameo by Alan Hale. (Skipper on Giligan's Island) This film is about a young boy who decided to go into the crime buisiness to help pay for all the operations that his mother had. He even tries to help his brother through law school. Later on Johnny Dangerouly is found to be the brother of Tommy Kelly the DA... I will not spoil the rest for the readers, but the laughs come a mile a minute! You will not be disappointed!

Summary: I saw this movie in theatres once... ONCE!
Review: I went to see this with m'pops at the local mall's mini-multiplex back in the day. Sadly, we were in for a rather rude- and stunningly stupid- awakening. This roll of wall-to-wall lameness is one of the dumbest and most unfunny attempts at parody I've ever had the misfortune of viewing! Well, aside form 'Spy Hard', anyway. The only saving grace: mob overlord Maroni's pathetic mangling of those beloved English-language cuss words. They're pretty close to the mark, too, yet far enough away from sounding like the actual four-letter words to keep the movie PG-13. I often use these naughty substitutions nowadays when bantering back & forth with my fellow geekoid fanboy buddies, usually whenever the 'rents are present. However, several years later I decided to check JD out on video. Mayhaps the years of experiences & wisdom I gained since my theatrical experience would change my view of this pathetic mob spoof. Or maybe I'm a masochist at heart. In this instance, I'll opt for the latter; Maroni's silly misuse of expletives are still the only decent parts of this flick! Fortunately, JD star Michael Keaton found some real work to make his mark on ('Beetlejuice', 'Batman' I & II). As for Joe Piscopo... well, let's say some actors' careers are not really good subjects for discussion. Useful side note: This movie marked the first time "Weird Al" Yankovic sang the opening theme song. Two other movies, the even-more-pathetic "UHF" (starring the Weird One) and the ultra-lame "Spy Hard", also share this common characteristic. Needless to say, if you're watching a comedy flick that features Al singin' over the opening credits, that's your cue to get out of the theater toot-sweet, or change the channel! 'Late!

It's a shame that his remarks are given primary visibility to any potential customers looking for a fantastic comedy that, in my and many other opinions, stands the test of time. I recently re-watched this movie, for about the 7th time, as it was being re-run on one of the premium channels. As I was laughing from-my-gut at the same one-liners and scenarios I almost know-by-heart, I realized that this was definitely a film to add to my DVD library. If you are a prospective buyer that has never seen this movie, and you enjoy comedies in the vain of Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and "Amazon Women on the Moon", I can almost guarantee that you will LOVE this film. It's one Michael Keaton's best comedic works -- as good or better than "Night Shift", but in a totally different way -- and I couldn't disagree more with Tom Keogh's remarks...
