Rating: Summary: I have to agree with the others! Review: Destined to be a cult-classic, this is easily Chevy Chase's best film. In fact, it's one of the best comedies Hollywood has produced since the Marx Brothers. Fletch also serves as a masterclass in the now-defunct sub-genre of the comedy-thriller. This seemed all the rage in the 80's (the equally superb Beverly Hills Cop and Midnight Run being fine examples); a good storyline, strong villains and plenty of wisecracks. Bring back these kind of films!
Rating: Summary: Is that Morris or Pierre? Review: I watched this a couple of times when I was younger and didn't catch everything, but when I watched it in my 20s, I couldn't stop laughing. I since have watched it about a dozen more times and look forward to watching it many more times. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommeded Review: It's sometimes good to cast a critical eye back on a forgotten gem and Fletch certainly fits that category. This film belong to a uniquely 80's genre of 'comedy-thriller' (rarely seen in the 90's), a genre where the comedy fitted into a well-structured plot and featured properly fleshed-out villains unlike many of todays attmpts. Chevy Chase plays Fletch with the perfect balance of arrogance and charm, helped by a superb script featuring endless one-liners. Fletch is here asked to kill a wealthy businessman so that his wife can claim the insurance that would otherwise be negated by his terminal illness. However, Fletch is obviously suspicious and investigates further... If you haven't seen Fletch yet, or haven't seen it for quite a while, give it a try. It's unlikely you'll be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: John Cock..tow...stone, it's Scotch Romanian! Review: Fletch is the single greatest comedy film that I have ever experienced in all my 21 years. The film is the perfect vehicle for the timeless genius of Chevy Chase. The delivery, the timing and the perpetual facial expressions are, in my opinion, unique in their quality to Chevy. The film is a genuine icon for my mates and myself. So much so that when I finally found a boxed original (not easy in England) my friend Sam actually collapsed. I recommend this film to anybody who has ever enjoyed a Chase film, because if you did then you need this film.
Rating: Summary: "Open your raincoat!" Great, Great Movie!!!!! Review: This movie is such a comedy masterpiece, with its non stop one liners, that most of my college career was spent cracking up to it. My fraternity even had a "Fletch" party, which included Dr. Jellyfinger, Ted Nugent, Igor Strabinsky, Dr. Rosenpenis, John Cocktoastin and many others. Now I have it on DVD and its terrific. If anyone knows how to get the soundtrack for this let me know!!!
Rating: Summary: The best L.A. 80's mystery comedy movie ever. Review: I thank Michael Ritchie for making this great, hilarious, comedy.Chevy Chase stars as Irwin M.Fletcher.( Just call him FLETCH.) AN Investigativereporter for the L.A. times under the headline ofJANE DOE, " hey its better than Irwin." Fletch is investigating the drug trafficing on the SantaMonica beach until he is confronted by a richman named ALAN STANWYK, who asks fletch tokill him for a huge sum of" 50,000 dollars".( hey, remember the eighties, please.) Fletch agrees modestly knowing for sure that this STANWYK ISputting him on. As Fletch investigates, he slowlyfinds that STANWYK is involvd in the beach thingtoo. The story goes on, and on until a great climax, and in the end Fletch is strolling downRio De Janeiro with STANWYK'S BEAUTIFUL wife.( An 80's out Dana Wheeler Nicholson, future New York Independent film romantic comedy Queen.) As hard as it may seem this film as had so muchmeaning to me,both as a youngster and as an adult. Maybe it's just Chevy,( In obviously his bestrole, since SNL.) But the film has much great help from such actors as Geena Davis,( her moviedebut; In curly red hair.) Richard Libertini,( As Fletches editor boss.) George Wendt and A blackactor whom I dont know his name,( As FAT SAM andGUMMY: TWO MINOR league junkies.) Joe Don Baker,( As drug kingpin/ police chief: THE CHIEF.) TIMMATHESON,( AS STANWYK.) KAREEM Abdul- Jabbar,(Ashimself.) A short stocky bald actor whom I dontknow,( As Arnold T. Pants, attorney to the formerMrs. Irwin M. Fletcher.) Anyway if I have'ntyet gotten to you take this advice," See It". It's great I like it, I thank Michael Richie, and screenwriter Andrew Bergman for changing amedi-ocre Novel into a Comedic masterpiece. Alsonote great titles with the Porno music in thebackground. Great Movie..... c. 1985. Michael Ritchie... FLETCH.
