Summary: Ethan Hawke 101
Review: 1994 was a cool year to be a 10th grader. It was the age of Ethan Hawke. Every teenage girl in the 90s was crazy for Ethan Hawke! In our world of Seventeen and YM magazines, Ethan was king. (It was with great surprise to me that most people hadn't heard of him until he was Oscar-nominated for 'Training Day'). At the time, 'Reality Bites' was a godsend. There weren't any other movies for teens. The Molly Ringwald days were long over and the biggest stars were in their 30s ( i.e. Demi Moore, Tom Cruise). When I saw 'Reality Bites' for the first time, I thought everything about it was so cool - the acerbic dialogue, the music, the Ethan, even Janeane Garofalo's platform shoes. Looking back, this movie is hardly the cinematic masterpiece that I thought it was back in the day, but seeing it now brings back such great memories!

Summary: Gen X revisited
Review: The 90's, in retrospect, were a wonderful time. Oh, the flannel, the Starbucks, the grunge, and Kennedy from MtV. So much great music! If you're a Gen X'er longing for those glory days and remembering all those aspects, "REALITY BITES" is one of those films that will take you back. Forget about how fast we're getting old by wasting 90 minutes with this loveable cast. In fact, make it a 90's memory-lane triple header by watching "SINGLES" and "CLERKS" as well!

Summary: A Little Painful but Unintentionally Funny
Review: What a bunch of immature, spoiled, boring, dumb and shallow characters, played by immature, spoiled, boring, dumb and shallow actors (Janeane Garofalo, Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, etc.)! As a twenty-something in New York during the nineties I can remember that there were plenty of people like these around and it's sad but also very funny to see them in this time capsule movie. Incredibly dated, but if you were a young white person living in an urban setting during the time of this movie you will laugh and wince with recognition. By the way, Winona Ryder might be a complete dimwit in real life but she sure was nice to look at in this movie--try watching with the sound turned down and she looks even better.

Summary: Favorite Romantic Comedy of the 90's
Review: The first time I saw this movie was on HBO. But then I had gotten it on video and now DVD. It's timeless and still fits into today's culture. Since the 90's of course wasn't that too long ago. Winona Ryder who plays college graduate Lelaina Pierce who likes to make documentaries. She is making a documentary of her friends who are played by: Ethan Hawke (Troy), the funny Janeane Garofalo (Vickie), Steve Zahn (Sammy), and Ben Stiller (Michael). Each of them goes through their own troubles Troy's father is suffering from Cancer and is dying, Vickie worries that she might have AIDS, Sammy is struggling to tell his parents that he's gay...and Lelania is stuck in the middle of a love triangle between Michael and Troy. It's realistic thrown in with great comedy and a great cast and storyline. Not to mention it has a great soundtrack. (You may also try to see if you can spot another upcoming star Renee Zellweger in the movie :).

The DVD in itself is a great buy. It is in a widescreen format. And has theatrical trailers, and also production notes of the movie. If your a fan of the movie this is the DVD for you.

Summary: Reality Bites and so does this movie.
Review: I just finished wathching "Reality Bites" and I felt compelled to log on to Amazon[.com] and warn others about this movie. There were only two reasons that I sat through the whole thing. The first is that I was hoping that it would turn around and be worthwhile. No such luck. ...
My biggest complaints are the characters and the story line. This may not be the politically correct thing to say but I would not have been sad to see the character played by Ethan Hawke (Troy) walk into stray gunfire and die. It is like this movie is some sort of documentary that aggrandizes the plight of the poor unfortunate "twenty-somethings". Maybe the idea is that it is supposed to teach us how we should forgive their whining and laziness because, the poor pitiful dears, "They're confused". To this I say, "Phooey!!!"
The plot is banal and uninteresting. I think that someone was trying to be "artistic". All they accomplished was making an annoying movie.

Summary: Sooooooo under-rated !
Review: An almost unknown movie, this is one of my favorite Wynona Rider movies. Her characterisation of a somehow disgruntled young teenager wishing to make something of her life as soon as possible is simply brilliant. Ethan Hawke and Ben Stiller flirt around her, and again opposites attract as the beautiful Hawke seduces the belle by going through a lot of happenstances and quid pro quos. In the end, both of them have grown a lot and have changed, become more mature and with eyes more open at life. See it and love it ^_^

Summary: I Loved this Movie!
Review: I Loved this movie! It had everything: comedy, realism, and the ability to make you laugh and cry. The acting is superb. Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo, Steve Zahn and Ben Stiller are excellent.
Lelaina Pierce (Ryder) is the valedoctorian of her college and should have her entire life mapped out for her, but all she has is a job at a morning talk show called 'Good Morning Grant' where she makes barely enough money to cover her rent. (For all those Frasier fans out there Grant is well acted by John Mahoney who plays Frasier's father on the show.) Her best friend Vickie (Garofalo) has just been promoted to manager at the Gap, and her other friend Sammy (Zahn) is coming to terms with his sexuality. Troy (Hawke) is her other troubled best friend who is the lead singer of a band and is in love with Lelaina. Lelaina videotapes all her friends making a documentary about their lives and their troubles, and she meets a guy named Michael (Stiller) who she begins dating, and who wants to turn her documentary into a television show for the network he works for called In Your Face TV.
The movie has a plot that appears so simple, yet it applies to everyone everywhere. It tries to answer the question: what to do when you just get out of college and where should life go?
Lelaina is also trapped in a love triangle and has to decide who she wants to be with more: Hawke, her closest friend or Stiller (who makes an excellent directorial debut), someone who loves Lelaina but also wants to profit from her documentary.
There are cameos from actors such as Renee Zellweiger, David Spade, and Swoozie Kurtz (who plays Lelaina's mother in one scene).
This film is one of my favorite movies of all time and is one that should be more well-known. It also has a fiere soundtrack, featuring artists like the Knack (Sharona), and Lisa Loeb, so I highly suggest you buy that as well.
"There's no point to all of this. It's just a random lottery of meaningless tragedy and a series of near escapes. So I take pleasure in the details. You know... a quarter-pounder with chesse, those are good, the sky before it starts to rain, the moment where your laughter becomes a cackle... and I, I sit back and smoke my Camel Straights and I ride my own melt..."-Troy from Reality Bites...
SO BUY THE MOVIE!

Summary: Reality Does Bite!!
Review: What none of the other reviewers have expressed is the fact that this movie is so much more than just Lanie's love triangle. It's not "just another twenty-something's movie". The makers of this film lead us into the family lives of our new friends. We see why they are so confused. It also shows the audience that there are those of us out there who have college degrees and don't know what the hell to do after we take off the cap and gown. It is by far one of my all time favorites.

Summary: i've watched this 394405 times
Review: and it is really good. superb acting. it makes you wanna watch it over and over again because it's funny , it's romantic [not the titanic-type, please] and it's just pure FUN watching these 4 friends getting along and just going completely nuts! sure Troy talks big and all but oh come on, the movie was just full of sarcasm and clever-wit. what is wrong with clever-wits? at least each character in the movie [the 4 friends AND michael] responded well to them. no one were being put down in the movie. i don't know.. i really wouldn't mind these clever-talk movies once in awhile. but the bottom line is - this movie is entertaining from the start till the end. so watch it!
