Summary: A BRILLIANT PIECE OF JOY
Review: It's sad, but probably true: the Oscars are going to ignore this gem. Hopefully NOT!

Brittany Murphy gives one of those crazy, lovable performances that is simply contagious. And Dakota Fanning is a marvel. This child should get a NOMINATION AS BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS. Maybe not a win, but a nomination indeed!

It's a gorgeous piece of work. I did not think I would like this movie because the title turns me off a bit. But the cinematography by Michael Ballhaus is stunning--those marvelous colors. And there's nothing sickly sweet about this film. I think the way it's been promoted is ALL WRONG! This is a much deeper movie than meets the eye: it's funny yet meaningful. I loved it and I hope Academy members won't ignore it, because it is truly a pleasure to watch---and I CANNOT SAY THAT ABOUT THE MORE OBVIOUS OSCAR CONTENDERS with the exception of the very great Mystic River, which WILL WIN the Oscar as Best Picture, as will Sean Penn, Clint Eastwood, and Marcia Gay Harden. Trust me, these three are IT! And there's Denys Arcand's stunning The Barbarian Invasions, which is getting the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar hands down--a remarkable, unforgattable movie! But...

But Dakota, so fine in Taken, is brilliant here. It's a razor sharp performance that gives weight to Uptown Girls, and not only that, she makes it real. Not to be missed or passed as another "chick flick." I hate that term. This is a truly brilliant and unpretentious film! Enjoy!

Summary: Best Movie in the World!!
Review: Uptown Girls is the best movie! It was a nice sweet movie with Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning. Brittany Murphy was so funny and Dakota Fanning was so cute! It teaches how an adult could be best friends with a child, and how a little eight year old girl can act just like an adult and her nanny as a child! It is a great story, and when it comes out, buy it! That is just what I am going to do! You can't keep your eyes off the screen when you put it on!

Summary: Absolutly have to see
Review: I think that "Uptown girl" is a sweet mix of everything you would want to see. It's funny with a touch of tears, romantic..and well just GOOD. Brittany Murphy has become one of my favourite actress's through this movie; I feel that a good part of her acting is just her personality (except in real life she knows about the whole grownup role). As for "Ray"? "Flash News" she is absolutly fantastic .....i admire her!! (and that's all i can say) The reason this movie needs....yes yes NEEDS to be seen is just because the person infront of the screen never gets bored . Trust me when I saw this movie i was in the plane coming back from New York, and well a lot of times planes aren't the best theaters. Am I right? This movie has a message, and is not totally blahhh, and dull it shows a little bit of everywoman out there, the permanent conflict: To grow up? or not to grow up? and most of the times the little girl decides she wants to and vice versa. This "mixage" of fairy tale and harsh reality is fantastically produced!! CONGRATULATION Uptown girl crew: You have a winner!!

Summary: Enjoyable Movie With A Sad Twist
Review: The plot of "Uptown Girls" revolves around a rich daughter of a dead rock star named Molly *Brittany Murphy" who gets scanned out of her inheritance so she must get a job taking care of the bratty daughter of a record exec. The acting in thsi film is actually very good and the little girl did a great job. Brittany Murphy is amusing onscreen as she usually is. The movie is lighthearted as a whole until towards the end when the predictable ending doesn't come into play and tragedy is introduced instead. Very sad. Still, a very good movie.

Summary: ~Uptown Girls~
Review: This was an amazing film. I loved just about every moment of it, I just didn't like some of it, but just about. I really liked her relationship with the little girl. It was amazing, sad, and beautiful. I especailly loved the little girl, Ray. She was so cute, and the way she acted so grown up, it was so funny! But my favourite character was Molly. I loved how she was so carefree and didn't care what anyone thought of her, it was exactly how I wish I could be. My favourite part of the whole movie was the end. When Molly stood up and gave a standing ovation, I wanted to stand up and do it.

Summary: sweet and touching, with superb acting
Review: After seeing the trailer for this film over and over throughout the summer, it quickly became one of the most highly anticipated movies ever for me. What I expected was an story of an immature teenager and a wise-beyond-her-years little girl who came together in a very sweet and moving way. While "Uptown Girls" certainly does fit that description to an extent, it is much, much more than an oversweetened, sappy tale of friendship and understanding. Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning aren't just playing unrealistic, sappy characters that nobody could ever relate to; they have feelings, and those feelings are presented in a very touching manner.

The basic story follows the life of Molly Gunn, a rich, spoiled teenager who suddenly loses everything and basically comes to be yet another nanny to an equally troubled 8-year-old girl. Although highly against becoming emotionally involved with Molly, it is the rare attention she is receiving that leads Ray to form an unsteady relationship with Molly. What follows is evidence showing why Ray is the way she is and what complex and often disturbing things she is experiencing in her very young life. The Coney Island scene toward the end when Ray tries to pull away from Molly and then throws her arms around her is a scene I will always remember because it's one of the first times I've actually cried in the theater (although I am a sensitive person, I never cry at movies). It truly is very touching, accompanied by wonderful acting.

Yes, this movie starts off very slow and you may find yourself wondering what exactly is the deal with Molly Gunn at the beginning of the film (I've seen it twice and the first 15 minutes or so still seem very thrown together to me), but the movie really does pick itself up and is held together primarily by the terrific acting from the two leading girls, as well as Heather Locklear as Ray's distant mother.

Brittany Murphy is a very charming and enjoyable young actress, but it is 9-year-old Dakota Fanning who completely steals this movie away. Although she has other talented people surrounding her, she is the star here, and she is the reason to see this film. I wasn't particularly impressed by her at first in "I Am Sam," but her performance in "Uptown Girls" reeled me in completely. Fanning is a rare, rare talent in today's world of child actors, and with her ease and charm on the screen it is plain as day to see that she will be a huge Hollywood name in the years to come. She's adorable and yes, extremely talented.

This movie may not be perfect in every sense (for reasons described above), but it is one of my favorites and is definitely worth seeing for its sweet message and the real-life struggles that prevent it from becoming a fake-ish fairy tale.

Summary: great sentimental movie
Review: i had read alot reviews on this movie before my wife i saw this.and most of them were bad, but i just love dakota fanning and i liked brittany murphy in just married so we wanted too see this. we went to a early afternoon showing so there was not that many people there there was about 8 other ladys and 1 others guy and two young girls there.i have heard this movie called chick flick i hate that term because this is one guy that just loved this movie for what it was a plan old sentimental movie it is one of the best i have seen this year.yeah every lady that was in the place sat there and was bawling there eyes out through most of the movie but there is nothing wrong with that and i am sure not ashamed to say that i was sitting there BAWLING my eyes out with snot flying the same way they did because i have a heart and if you do you will see why everyone in the place was bawling like babys. it a story of great friendship that came too be. and it is just a great sentimental time there should be more movies like this one.i will see this time and again and buy it when it come out on dvd. so forget it is a chick flick this is a great movie. and so what if you need a box of kleenex's for it. that is what makes it one of the best i think.

Summary: Mildly Entertaining, but some flaws
Review: Brittany Murphy plays Molly, a woman who seemingly isn't good at anything. She can't hold onto a job, or an apartment; she can't pay her bills, yet she buys stuff she can't afford; and her latest boyfriend feels that she's smothering him. Along the way, a friend, played by Donald Faison of Scrubs, recommends her for a job as a nanny for his employer's daughter. The little girl, named Ray, has already gone through several nannies, and she's not interested in keeping this one. Along the way the two women realize how close they are in personality, and how the loss of their parents effected them each in different ways. Ray's father is in a coma from a stroke, and her mother cares more about her social life then her daughter. Molly, on the other hand, lost both her parents in a plane crash when she was Ray's age.

There's a lot to like about this movie, such as the performance of the two lead actresses, and the supporting character of Ray's mother, played by Heather Locklear. But the storyline falters in many ways by being very formulaic. It appears that they try to be realistic, but the story moves in a very un-realistic way. No explanation is given to why, or how, Molly and Ray suddenly become friendly after snapping at each other five minutes before. The movie lacks depth, and therefore, lacks a higher rating. It's a fun, heartwarming story, but far from ideal filmaking.
