Summary: Funny and you can watch it over and over again.
Review: Con men in Riviera. What more can you expect from a comedy. It is very funny. Exotic location. Great casts. I read somewhere that initially Steve Martin was supposed to play Michael Caine's character and vice versa. Not sure how well it will work, but certainly both stars play superb in their roles as conmen. The old DVD has no extra but MGM reissue include behind the scenes and the very funny teaser trailer and Frank Oz provided an amusing commentary track. Highly recommended DVD.

Summary: Two guys at their best
Review: Michael Caine and Steve Martin have always been great performers, but in this film, they are at their best. Caine is incredibly smooth and sauve and it plays well off of Martin's crude behavior as a boorish American con artist. The plot of a scam involving the two men against each other to see who will leave the country is quite possibly the only thing that truly gets in the way of these two great stars, but they overcome any holes and move very well with their dialog and comedy. A stand-out moment involves Martin as Ruprecht, a challenged younger brother to Caine, and a cork on a fork. This sequence is quite possibly one of the funniest scenes filmed in the 1980's besides the entire Ghostbuster film. The jokes are great and the physical comedy of Martin steals the show at times, but Caine swiftly holds his own with his charismatic performance. It is very clear why Caine is still a star and why Steve Martin is still possibly the funniest man working. These two men are at their prime in this delightful film that has quite a lot of plot twists and unexpected revelations. If you like clashing personalities with your comedy, this is a great film to watch.

Summary: Schemes to Screams of Laughter
Review: When two conniving men (Michael Caine & Steve Martin) compete for the ultimate scheme, bouts of laughter are bound to follow. Such is the case with "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," a comedy which starts slow but soon picks up. Although the humor is often more wit than slapstick, younger viewers will find it not as enjoyable as others, but Martin's "crazy" character will hold their interest. However, if none of the above sounds inticing, the film is worth watching just to hear Ian McDiarmid say, "Welcome to Hell."

Summary: One of the cleverest comedies ever made.
Review: My family has owned this film for several years already and I hadn't watched it in a long time, so I had hardly remembered anything other than the scenes with "Rupret, the Monkey Boy" which were absolutely hysterical. Maybe I had been very young at the time of the first viewing so I didn't quite understand the film's jokes and really intelligent and unexpected plot twists, so I decided to watch it again last night, and was very very pleased with what I saw. The whole cast shines. It is a superb comedy. Who will come out having won the 50 thousand dollar bet? Lawrence Jamison? Freddy Benson? Or none of them? Watch this and find out. The plot twists and turns all throughout the film. It is an excellent film, well worth having! You will not regret purchasing it. If only films could be as intelligent and well-crafted as this one...

Summary: A refreshing comedy in a nice setting
Review: After watching this movie several times on TV, I just had to buy the DVD. This is a funny flick. It's about two guys who are scoundrels as they offer romance to various ladies in order to get their hands into the pockets of these wealthy ladies. There's a difference though, the one (Michael Caine) does it with style and the other (Steve Martin) is a struggling wannabe. Then it comes down to a bet between the two of whoever first obtains the favor of one particular lady. And it's a laugh fest as both come up with one surprise after the other, and it's hillarious. Both, Caine and Martin show forth their excellent acting skills. The setting is the Cote d'Azure and that's a nice additional touch. The ending is a surprise, too. You'll love this movie!

Review: I have watched this movie three or four times and it has never failed to amuse me on each of those occasions. Humour is a personal thing so there are many who might not share my feelings about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - suffice to say the combination of an urbane Michael Caine with a exuberant Steve Martin tickled me! It is a lightweight show that makes no Oscar winning pretences other than to entertain. And that it does magnificently.

Review: Being the huge fan of Steve Martin that I am, I must say that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is one of my favorites. It contains brilliant acting from Michael Caine, plus a hilarious performance by Steve Martin. Not only is this one of my favorite Steve Martin films, but it is also one of his funniest. So if you're wandering through the aisles at your local video store and looking for something to watch, just go pick up Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and prepare to laugh yourself silly!
