Summary: Cliche writing
Review: I'm a huge John Cusack fan. And I liked Kate Beckinsdale in the Whit Stillman movie. Thus, this film was a huge disapointment. It was so predictable and sugary. Cusack usually picks far better. I don't even recommend this as a video rental.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A predictable outcome, but a lot of fun getting there!
Review: Saw a sneak preview of Serendipity in a small, crowded theater. The overwhelmingly positive audience response made the movie that much more fun to watch. John Cusack is funny and charming, and Kate Beckinsale is delightful as well. A fabulous supporting cast - including Molly Shannon and Peter Chelsom - add a lot to this hilarious, romantic comedy. Yes, its outcome is predictable, but you have a heck of a lot of fun getting there!

Summary: Best romantic comedy I have seen in years
Review: Heart-worming and charming. If you love Sleepless in Seatle, My Best Friend's Wedding, or any other romantic comedy, go see this movie. It was wonderful.

Summary: A magical dance on the silver screen
Review: I had the opportunity to see the specail sneak preivews this weekend, and I must say, it was beautifully done. Like many movies today, there are a few scenes that did not make it from the trailers into the movie. However, I was delighted that the new 'version' of the scene was put in because it just made the plot much more of a 'fortunate accident.'

Both Cuzack and Beckinsdale were magnificient from start to finish. Piven, as Cuzack's best friend delivers a great performance as he pursues a destiny seems unachieavable. Molly Shannon is with no surprise brings with her experience from SNL to this great love comedy with absolute laughter that is keeps the audience laughing but also as a skeptic of a 'magical power' that is known as fate.

But let's not forget Eugene Levy. A well known actor whom with his past roles in American Pie and also American Pie 2, make his appearnce in this film as another wonderful eccentric Bloomingdale's sales clerk. Needless to say, Jim's father comes through and is just absolutely hilarious.

Recent movies such as Bounce and You've got mail, attempted similar love comedy generes with their own twist in the plot. However, I have to admit that You've got mail came up short when compared to Sleepless in Seattle (which I must admit is one of my all time favorties) and Bounce, to my sad disappointment, left me hanging in the end.

Serendipity has something for everyone and despite its setting in NYC, it comes at a perfect time when all of us need a break from life, suspend our beliefs in the impossible, and cherish fate and destiny.

Summary: Does 'Serendipity' shine?
Review: I watched the film last night on a sneak preview, and enojoyed it very much.I'm a big fan of the romantic comedy genre. It was funny and touching to the heart. The plot is obiviously based after "Sleepless in Seattle" but it was still a worth the money to see it.John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale have pretty good chemistry, even though for most of the film they are not in any scenes together until the end. But what I liked about it is how destiny and fate can be taken with a sense of humor. And I truly recommend it as a good date movie.

Summary: Fate's good sense of humor
Review: After viewing Serendipity last night I found myself leaving the theatre with a new mission, to let fate take over once in a while. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale first meet over a chance encouter at Bloomingdale's and through a twist, lose each other, hoping that their fate in love will bring them back together. Some years pass before they both are engaged to other people when they find themselves longing to find each other again.
With a great supporting cast, and a plot that really works, this is a wonderful, romantic movie. Eugene Levy is a wonderful character actor and Jeremy Piven is perfect as the best friend to John Cusack. Perfect for a date, or some quiet time with friends this is the perfect fall movie.

Summary: Serendipity.. or Coincidental overload...
Review: The first 20 minutes of this film shows what is probably the greatest first date ever put on film. The mood is great. The particpants are charming. The lighting is sublime. Even Mother Nature contributes with the appropriate snowfall, on cue of course. Of course, that this first date involves two people already involved in other relationships makes the chance for a second date to be next to none. So, rather than push, they leave their relationship up to fate... And that's what pulls us through the next hour or so. That's also what drags the film down into a series of lovely cliches previously seen in the HARRY MET SALLY, YOU'VE GOT MAIL, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE films. And along the way are some plot holes that you can drive a truck through. Kate Beckinsale (PEARL HARBOR, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING) is beautiful with just a touch of browbeaten making here easily identifiable with the female audience. And John Cusack, Prince of the Chick Flick, is charming as always. Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live) portrays the Rosie O'Donnell role here (The best friend who helps support during the best and worst of times...) And Eugene Levy chews up the scenery as a overanxious salesclerk. Much of the Manhattan photography is very nice but the films release proximity to the World Trade Center Collapse causes several awkward moments: An argument with a Middle Eastern taxi cab driver, several American Airline flights over Manhattan and a New York Times obituary writer putting off work cause 'they'll still be dead tomorrow' fell flat because of this coincidence... Or is it Serendipity? the 3 Star rating is an average of 4 stars for the Meg Ryan crowd and 2 stars for the Jackie Chan crowd. Whichever one you fall into, live life to the fullest.

Summary: A wonderful light-hearted film
Review: Serendipity is a warm, funny movie that is worth the price of admission. The characters are easy to fall in love with and the storyline moves at a nice pace. Plus, the ending is one that leaves you smiling as you exit the theater.

Summary: John and Kate shine!
Review: What can I say about this film? It was spectacular! The setting, the actors, the dialogue, was all so wonderful!

(John) Johnthan, a man in his 30's that met a girl Sara (Kate) one evening in New York in the early 90's. They had a magical 4-hour evening. When Jonathan tries to write his phone number to her, it blows away in the wind. Sara is a strong believer in fate so she decides for him to write his name and number on a 5-dollar bill, he does, and she takes it to a newspaper vender across the street, and if they were meant to be together, she would get it back. She would meanwhile, write her name and number in a book and then give it to a used bookstore, and if he found it, they were meant to be together. Then 7 years later, both have moved on and are engaged to other people, but before they could marry, they had to see if fate would bring them back....

The supporting characters were also excellent in the movie. Jeremy Piven plays Jonathan's best friend, who writes obituaries for the New York Times. He doesn't want Jonathan to hunt down his mystery girl, but ends up on the adventure with Jonathan and embracing his friend's crazy romanticism.

Molly Shannon plays Sarah's best friend, who for some reasons owns a voodoo shop but doesn't believe in fate or supernatural. She follows Sarah's crazy romanticism as well, but doesn't know all about it. Once she learns about Sara and her mystery man, she tries to be the voice of reason.

John Corbett plays Sarah's fiancée who has a weird musical taste.

John Cusack is as always a sweetie and a great charmer. He doesn't try to push himself in the idea of "fate" but rather he embraces it and knows that he is a true romantic at heart.

Kate Beckinsale is wonderful as the English girl who all she wants is for her love to be right and true.

The dialogue is simply wonderful and playful at the same time. There are a few moments in the movie where you just want both Sara and Jonathan to be together because they play their roles as hopeless romantics so well.

Go see this movie especially now during this terrible and trying time in the country. For all you hopeless romantics, you will learn that there is hope if you put your faith in FATE!
