Summary: Like watching someone else's bad dream...
Review: This was a cute movie. Stiller and DeNiro are a combination I never thought to see on film - DeNiro played the father-in-law to be of every young man's nightmares, and Stiller was the dorky guy every high school boy THINKS he is.Through his own desire for papa's approval, and fear of standing up for himself, he gets himself into terrible scrapes, and it's very funny, although a bit embarrassing to watch. I actually covered my face with my hands during parts of this moment; I just couldn't witness this man's huminliation any more. I won't say how it ends - you'll have to see it for yourself. I gave it 4 stars for the laughs; not a deep movie by any stretch, but an enjoyable one.

Review: Before you rent or buy Meet The Parents, it helps to know whether this movie's type of humor is to your taste. Here's a clue: the lead character's name is Greg Focker. Greg ... Focker. Many people think that's absolutely hysterical. Do you? then this is probably your kind of flick. Otherwise, stay away.

Review: I'm a big fan of Ben stiller and his movies are always good. He was great in Mystery Men, Something about Mary and others, but this movie was pure genious. I laughed through the entire movie. Some of the feaures on the DVD are pretty cool, but I pretty much watch the movie instead of playing the games and junk. But definitely buy this movie! You will laugh like you never laughed before! Keep the kids away from this with you parental lock on your DVD player though. Heh Heh. If you enjoy comedy then definetly buy this....

Summary: There's something about Robert DeNiro......
Review: After meeting the parents of his girlfriend, one thing after another goes wrong for Greg Focker. Imagine meeting the parents of your spouse-to-be for the first time. Imagine everything that can go wrong. That sums up this movie. I thought Robert DeNiro did a great job in this movie. Ben Stiller just seems to be playing the same character jumping from movie to movie. I don't watch a lot of comedies, but this movie had me laughing from beginning to end. My husband, on the other hand, thought it was horrible. Maybe it's just the perspective from which you watch it. Overall, it's not a bad rental.

Summary: Meet The Parents: A Different Kind Of Comedy
Review: I've noticed there are many negative reviews about Meet The Parents, and I just can't agree with them. I mean, those review writers can think whatever they want about the movie, but the movie actually did become a box-office smash, and then a best-seller on video and DVD, so their opinion is easily a minority. I've noticed that many of these reviews claim Meet The Parents just isn't funny, and that's understandable because Meet The Parents is definetly a different kind of comedy than many people are used to, like Mystery Science Theatre, for instance. I found the series and the movie hilarious, while some didn't quite get what was so funny about boring old movies and a guy and two robots talking the whole way through. Well, Meet The Parents is another comedy that doesn't quite fit in with the comedy genre we know and love, and I also found this movie hilarious, so it's easy to say I just look at movies different than others. Basically, the style of comedy that Meet The Parents utilizes is the kind of comedy at the expense of others, and the kind of comedy from another person's point of view. The comedy also branches off from the awkwardness mostly in the first half of the movie. The second half utilizes the kind of comedy that makes you laugh, but also makes you cringe at the same time. Everyone knows that feeling, but nobody can really describe it. It's the kind of feeling you get when you know there's a nasty boobytrap behind the door of the house your best friend is about to enter, or the kind of feeling you get when your family gasps at the sight of the wreckage of the priceless ming vase you accidentally broke. But if all these kinds of comedy are too complicated for you, don't worry, because there is also elements of flat-out comedy you don't need to be a rocket scientist to laugh at, like several airport gags at the expense of Greg, and pure Ben Stiller-style comedy, mainly in the scenes near the end, during and after an impressive, ongoing, and not to mention, funny, rant brilliantly executed by Ben Stiller, and the infamous survelliance tape final scene. Also, there is a funny running gag revolving around Greg's unfortunate last name, Focker, that just gets funnier and funnier, especially when Greg's real first name is revealed. (You don't want me to spoil the surprise, do you?) And, if you have good ears, listen for the gag in the very beginning of the movie, when the opening lyrics of Randy Newman's "A Fool In Love", make some funny comments on the opening Universal and Dreamworks logos. (Try turning the english subtitles on, it's very subtle and kind of hard to hear). And there is also a lot of drama in the movie, in case you were wondering. After the family finds out about all of Greg's lies, the movie becomes a real tear-jerker, until the airport rant, of course. So, this review pretty much sums up how this movie is a different kind of comedy not many people get. Well, I get it, and I just want to say I like it, and I hope to see more movies like this in the future.

Summary: Could have been better
Review: A DVD should present interesting detail of a scholarly kind. Otherwise, rent the video. This DVD had two voice-over comments; one by the cast and one by the director and I think producer. Why couldn't it have been just one with all of them on it. More than this, a director's cut would have been welcomed because they talk about the deleted scenes all the time. I would have liked to have seen them. The director was trying to establish a tension with the awkward, long silences and drawn out scenes. Unfortunately, this translates into boring when on the screen. I could have done with a lot less of the sappy love story and more or the humor of the Farelley brothers type. One of the very best parts rarely comented upon is the flight attendent scenes toward the end of the film. Guess I was expecting too much.

Summary: Funny and goodhearted at the same time
Review: Meet the parents was one of the best comedies of 2000. Though many people think there aren't enought jokes to satisfy, it's evened out by believable characters and cheerfulness. I recommend this movie for anyone who needs a good movie to watch.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: This was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time and I cant understand how anybody in their right mind could think that it is not funny. I am also twelve years old, and unlike that canadian kid my age I loved it. I would highly recomend this video to anybody who has a sense of humer and wants a good laugh. Robert de Niro is hilarious and Ben stiller is his usual funney self. This movie was good enough (in my opinion) to be nominated for best picture.

Summary: Hilarious movie, hilarious DVD
Review: When I first saw this movie in theaters five months ago, I didn't think anything could top it. But then I saw the DVD. Almost fifteen minutes of hilarious outtakes, two very funny deleted scenes, and a terrific "Making of" featurette. One of the best things on the DVD is the Universal Showcase, showcasing two upcoming Universal movies, "The Mummy Returns," and "Captain Corelli's Mandolin." The movie itself is still one of the funniest things ever to be put on film. De Niro and Stiller make a terrific opposing pair, with a supporting cast that ain't too shabby either. Blythe Danner and Teri Polo give the movie it's dramatic relief, which every good comedy needs. But with the dramatic relief, there is also comic relief to even things out, making for a movie without one boring or not humorous scene.

Summary: Disappointing at best
Review: After so much hype, and the movie teasers, I was expecting this to be a pretty funny movie. Unfortunately, after nearly 30 minutes into the movie, I had uttered scarcely a chuckle. De Niro, of course, does his usual good job. Ben Stiller adequately plays pretty much the same "Something About Mary" character. I thought there were less laughs than "About Mary", with the two major comedic scences space apart by agonizingly long periods of irritating nervousness between Ben Stiller's character and "the dad". At least "About Mary" had the funniest part up front. "Meet the Parents" makes you wait nearly 30 minutes before the first good one. In fact, if you've seen the full trailer, you've seen all the funny parts. If you are a fan, its worth the rent, but not the buy. My copy is up for sale.
