Rating: Summary: Why the critics were so wrong about this movie Review: This wonderfully tender movie was trashed by most critics. (A notable exception is Roger Ebert who gave it an excellent review.) After reading many of the bad reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes site it hit me that most of the reviewers were outraged that the film makers dared to make a movie where the main teenage character (Mandy Moore) isn't cynical, sarcastic, angry, faithless, disillusioned, sex crazed and everything else Hollywood has been trying to tell us for years is cool. Of course, that's the point of the whole movie. In a sense the critics cast themselves in the role of the kids at the cool table mocking the one girl who dared to be different. Just as the kids in the movie told blatant lies about the Mandy Moore character, so too the critics did the same. Many of them called the movie predictable and cliche ridden and said we've seen it all before. When? 40 years ago? I have three grown children and eight grand children. I've watched hundreds of movies for tweeners and teens in the last 20 years. I don't think I've ever seen this particular theme delt with so sensitively and with so much insight into how much courage it takes to be different at that age. The film shouldn't be judged by the admittedly melodramatic turns of the script. This movie is about the struggle of two young people to be individuals with values and dignity. Their fight not to be swallowed up by the pop culture norm is epic. The filmakers fought the same battle sucessfully. A Walk to Remember will be watched by confused teenagers struggling for identity for decades to come. They'll receive from the movie a rare encouragement to be an individual, to form yourself outside the parameters of an MTV culture and to remember the cool kids are eating the same crummy cafeteria food at their table.
Rating: Summary: touching movie Review: This movie really is a touching one. It has faith, hope, trust, and real unconditional love. It is about a "bad" boy Landon Carter(Shane West)who finds himself tutoring on Saturdays and having a role in the spring play after getting himself in trouble. He soon realizes he needs help. So he asks "the bible hugging, crucifix wearing, honk if you love jesus"(as described by Landon's friend Eric) Jamie Sullivan. When the play comes he see's Jamie in a totally different light. He not only starts falling in love with Jamie but he is also changing as a person because of her. What i think is really sweet is when he starts doing the things on her "list". But he soon finds out a secret about her that will change his life forever. The rest you gotta find out by yourself cause im not ruining the ending for you. But believe me it is certainly a walk and a movie to remember. I recommend this movie to everyone cause it will touch you even if you arent in to Romance.
Rating: Summary: A walk to forget. Review: Holy snaps was this movie bad. My mom grounded me for renting the thing. Mandy Moore just needs to learn that she'll never be Britney. She should stop singing, stop acting, and just go work at Dairy Queen. Leave the other stuff to professionals, like Britney.
Rating: Summary: One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen Review: "A Walk To Remember" tells the story of an unlikely teenage couple falling in love. The movie is very romantic, and very touching, with some scenes that are very emotional, some that are very heart warming and sweet, and also some that are sad. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it.Other than the romantic story (which is based on a book titled the same as this movie), the best thing about this movie is definitely the two lead actors, pop singer Mandy Moore and Shane West. I can't think of two other actors who could have done a better, and more believable job than those two. The way that they portray the romance between Landon and Jamie, the two main characters in the movie, looks very real, and is done with beauty, warmth and class. They make a perfect couple, even though they seemed so different from each other at the beginning. As I said, the movie is very romantic, some would even say sappy. If you're not one who likes romantic movies, you may find it overly sentimental, but I think that most people will enjoy and be moved by it because it's such a beautiful movie. It has not any cynicism, which is something that I really liked and found very refreshing after watching some of the latest so-called teen romance movies. This movie is very tastefully done. And one other thing, this movie is mostly referred to as a teen movie, but I really think people of all ages can enjoy it. I especially think that people who experienced being in love will love it. The DVD extras include interviews with the cast, and a video clip and day in the life of the multi-talented Mandy Moore. I really recommend you to see this movie.
Rating: Summary: I loved this movie! Review: This was positivly the BEST movie of all time. Anyone who has not seen it has missed out on SO much! i'm a big movie fan and have seen lots of films, but this story has so much depth and love that it could very well be THE Romeo and Juliet story of our time. The characters were superb and the actors were amazing. Mandy Moore and Shane West showed me their true colors while acting in this film and showed me that this could very well be the best movie of all time. At the end of the film, I was crying so hard because of the moving scenes. I watch it about twice a week now and stiil cry at the right parts and believe me, i DON'T cry! Watch it now and be forever grateful!
Rating: Summary: doesn't do the book justice Review: i read the book a couple years before making a movie out of it was even thought of and it left me in tears. no book or movie had done that to me before and hasn't since, so when i heard they were making the movie i was excited. i thought "a walk to remember" was incredible, it was moving, thought-provoking, and basically everything a good book needed to be so the movie would reflect at least some of that, right? wrong. the movie was good - i am by no means saying it [was horrible] - but it was not at all on level that the book was. too many key details were taken out or replaced and in turn, the story lost a lot of what made it so special in the first place. for example, the story taking place in the 50s just added something to it that the movie completely lost. it may have allowed for teens to be able to relate at little more, but i think it was a bad decision. but one of the biggest mistakes by far was how jamie told landon she was dying and his reaction. she didn't say it with hostility, she told him with a sad, hopeless smile, and he didn't react with angry, he stood in the street holding her, crying with her (this was the point where i put down the book and cried for about an hour. the characters were developed so well that i felt like they were a part of me). another detrimental mistake was leaving out the scene that shows why the book got it's name in the first place. by the time the two are about to get married, jamie is so sick she can't walk more than a couple of steps by herself but she wants so badly to walk down the isle that she does. it takes a long time, she has to take breaks in between, but she does it, as sick and weak as she is, she still does it. that was the walk to remember. my advice: don't read the book before u see the movie, it'll only disappoint.
Rating: Summary: The best movie I have ever seen Review: Worth seeing more than once. Shane and Mandy are great together. It is a shame that they are not couple in real life.
Rating: Summary: A Great Alternative To Modern Teen Movies Review: Recent teen movies have pretty much showed teens as cold and uncaring. This movie does nothing of the sort. A very likable cast displays emotion and yet they remain very believable. The movie is about an 18 year old boy the name of Landon Carter (Shane West) who is your typical high school "big man on campus" who gets himself into some trouble. He ends up getting involved with misfit Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) when he's forced to participate in his high school's spring play. The story takes off from there and i don't want to give away any spoilers. Shane West's acting is terrific but the real star is Mandy Moore who definitely displays the fact that she has acting talent and is definitely a young person to watch for in the future. The movie's love themes are not mushy *surprisingly* and the corny moments are pretty forgivable and handled well by the cast. "A walk To Remember" is definitely a movie to remember and a must see. It's not just for teens either. Anyone can enjoy it. My own mother loved it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie!! Review: I saw the trailer for this movie on t.v. one day and thought it looked pretty good so I went and saw it. I would have to say it is probably one of my favorite movies. It is a wonderful love story with plenty of heart-breaking drama. It will give you a new outlook on life. Also, being Mandy Moore's first leading role, surprisingly, she was outstanding. As a side note: A famous movie critic once said, "Good movies make you think. Great movies change lives." A Walk to Remember is a great movie.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies I've ever seen! Review: "A Walk to Remember" is one of my favorite movies. It is the story of Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, two people who, despite their differences, fall in love. I was hesitant to see the film since I hadn't really liked the book and the movie looked a little sappy. However, I liked Mandy Moore and a friend recommended it to me (thanks for the life altering e-mail, Katie), so I went to see it. I then went on to see it four more times and then buy the soundtrack. "A Walk to Remember" could be called a little sappy, but true romantics will recognize it for the wonderful movie that it is. I am a sarcastic and somewhat cynical person, but I couldn't help loving this movie. Shane West and Mandy Moore are great together, and the movie is touching, funny, and very romantic. If you don't like it, then I think you're just jealous. The only problems in the film are the people that aren't Landon or Jamie. They're really not necessary to the film, but what can you do? Watch "A Walk to Remember" and it will change your life. We should all be so lucky as to be in two places at once...
