Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: I should begin by explaining that I am a 53 year-old man. I should also list what I did not know right after I saw A Walk to Remember. I had no idea that the movie had gotten mixed reviews. I didn't know that some people didn't like it. I had no idea that some have referred to it as a movie for 14 year-old girls. I had no idea that some reviewers referred to A Walk to Remember as a "little" movie, as if it were of a lower category. I was not aware of any dramatic flaws in the movie. I just did not notice any. I had no idea that some people felt like the movie was predictable, even the end. So, what were my immediate ractions after seeing A Walk to Remember? I was disappointed in the profanity in a PG movie. However, I also felt like even that was part of what the movie was trying to communicate. My other reaction was it was by far the best movie I have ever seen! Everything else seems like a B flick in comparison. What did I like so much about it? I think what appeals to me in the arts is when a work communicates passion and deep emotion. While I have enjoyed some cerebral stuff, A Walk to Remember packs an emotional punch like I have never seen before! Also, right after I saw the movie I felt like it was directed toward mature men. It's easy for us to forgot how much our wives mean to us. Dirty diapers, kids' homework assignments and lots of other things make us lose sight of how important it is to be able to share our lives with someone. I expressed that and how grateful I am that she loves me to my wife of 18 years right after I saw A Walk to Remember. I also thought about bachelors right after the movie ended. I wonder how many of them are ignoring a Jamie Sullivan right under their nose because some idiot made a cruel joke about her waist line, or something similar. I would caution parents about showing the movie to children. It's so sad that kids may not be able to sleep that night. Otherwise, see A Walk to Remember. I don't think you'll regret it.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Movies Ever Review: This was one of the best movies ever. I liked it so much I read the book, which is also very good. The characters in this story touch you so much, you cannot leave the couch.
Rating: Summary: Sappy, Maudlin, and Cheesy-It's all three Review: This movie is a waste of time. The storyline has been used hundreds of times: Popular guy befriends unpopular girl on bet or dare. They fall in love. Something dramatic happens. Drama resolved. Movie over. Would moviemakers please put this tired plot to rest? Something similar has been used in "How to Lose a Guy In Ten Days", "She's All That", and "Drive Me Crazy", to name a few. If you are in the mood for a tasteful cinematic experience, don't watch "A Walk to Remember".
Rating: Summary: A Walk to Remember is AWESOME! Review: A Walk to Remember is one of the best movies I've ever seen! Landen Carter is sooo sweet it makes you cry! If you watch this movie be prepared for the water works. This movie is definetly an awesome movie that everyone should watch!!!!
Rating: Summary: Honesty Overcomes Schmaltz Review: This movie is sappy, heartbreaking, touching, funny, intelligent, emotional, savvy, and a host of other adjectives that somehow manages to overcome the weak points. It's very refreshing to see a "teen" movie that isn't about bathroom humor, young people behaving stupidly, or overt sexuality that is gratuitous and nonessential. "A Walk to Remember" may be at times trite, but is always honest. The DVD presentation is somewhat disappointing. There are no special features other than Moore's video for her hit "Cry." While she looks beautiful, it's not one of her best videos.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Beautiful! Best Movie of 2002! Review: this is a fantastic storei about two people learning about love hope faith and a beautiful journey together. I felt Like I was going to cry in some segments. They shared a beautiful hearfelt deep love. Mandy moore did a wonderful job and is a classa act. Shen west played a great part as the bad boy who completely changed around and turned into "a miracle". This movie will stay with me for along time. before you see another movie, see this one> Highly highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Book is better, but movie is ok Review: I first read the book by Nicholas Sparks so I couldnt wait to the movie when it came out... Although the movie was pretty good... There were major changes in it... All that was baisically the same was the plot of the book... But all the event were pretty much different... I think if they would have stayed more within the events of the book it would have made the movie better.
Rating: Summary: Good movie Review: Being a 15 year old boy I'd have to same with some degree of certainty that these types of movies are not my 'thing'. I'm the typical Star Wars meets Die Hard: With a Venghence type movie goer. So I snuck the movie down to my room (lest I should be teased by my family for watching a chick flick)to watch because..well, not to sound crass, but Mandy Moore is hot. The movie has a fairly well developed story line, and the acting seemed OK to me. Most of the negative reviews here say the acting was weak, and I just don't see how. Quite seriously, it gave me watery eyes and as I said before, I'm a 15 year old boy with a penchant for action video games and sensless violence movies. So I'd say that makes the movie worth watching. For the parent out there - I recomend forcing your teenage son to watch this movie. It's great.
Rating: Summary: Been there, done that Review: I had never read the book, so I didn't know what to expect from this movie. Or so I thought. This movie has the same plot as about a thousand other movies, and has been done about a thousand times better. Bad boy meets good girl. They fall in love against the opposition of friends and family. Bad thing happens. Have you seen West Side Story? Romeo and Juliet? This movie is nothing but average. The two stars would be better suited to silent films, because their facial expressions and mannerisms are so exaggerated. Peter Coyote is totally wasted as Mandy Moore's overprotective father, and Darryl Hannah sleepwalks through her part. If this is best example of what teens of today should be watching, then they should start reading more.
Rating: Summary: lovely storyline spoiled by lack of chemistry Review: i've always held the theory that movies never do justice to the book its based on. this one just confirms that theory again. i can tell from the movie its a wonderful touching storyline and would be even better if the lead actor and actress has at least SOME chemistry. in this case there isn't any. nada. none. mandy moore's acting is strained. its as if at the back of her mind she has to keep thinking, act innocent, act innocent, to the point she overdoes it. she's trying too hard till it comes off as fake. shane west, well what can i say, perhaps i'm a little prejudiced, i've always had a weakness fo sulky boys like him, but he looked like between the two he was the more natural one. moore was the one who failed to respond to him. overall its not a total waste to watch this movie but if you've read the book you'll probably be sorely dissapointed.
