Rating: Summary: A Movie That Can't Be Forgotten Review: If you've read the award winning and highly acclaimed book by Nicholas Sparks, you already know that the story is extremely touching and emotional. The movie is a wonderful interpretation of the book. This is an unusual case when I loved both the book AND the movie. The movie, directed by Adam Shankman, was well done without going over the top. This is a sweet story that leaves even the most hard-hearted in tears. There are funny moments though, in thanks for the most part to the character of Eric, Landon's best bud.The acting is phenomenal and the characters and plot are well-developed. Mandy Moore and Shane West are amazing in their portrayals of Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter, respectfully. This movie is sure to become an instant classic and it's a terrific addition to your own movie collection.
Rating: Summary: A Movie To Remember Review: A Walk To Remember is a perfect example of a love story, a love story of loyalty, faith, and well, love. Mandy Moore and Shane West give a wonderful performance...a girl with self confidence no one can break, and a boy with lack of confidence in himself. Together, they fall in love and create a stunning movie on respect, care, and love. It delivers great lessons, as well as a great performance. A Walk To Remember, is a movie to remember as well.
Rating: Summary: A movie to remember Review: Everyone who knows what a good movie is and has seen this movie knows that it is a very good movie that is not just another teen movie. I've left a review on the film itself already, so please check that out. So now I'll leave a review on the overall DVD. The DVD includes two commentaries, the first by Mandy Moore, Shane West, and director Adam Shankman. It is a very interesting and funny commentary, and it is fun to listen to. But the 2nd commentary by author Nicholas Sparks and the screenwriter is much more fact-filled and interesting. Overall, both commentaries are essential to hear if you want to learn more about the making of the film. Next we have the music video for the main song of the film, "Cry" by Mandy Moore. Now this has got to be Mandy's greatest video ever, she looks great in it, and her voice is amazing. Shane also made an appearance in the video, which makes it alot better. Overall the video is very well done, and it is a great special feature. Then you can watch the trailer to the film, the full-length theatrical trailer, which as with any film, is a nice feature. The last thing is the Cast biographies and filmographies of Shane West, Mandy Moore, and two more cast members. The film includes English and French audio, and it has English and Frech subtitles. The only dissapointment you might realise, is that during Mandy's singing, there are no subtitles. So go buy the DVD if you haven't already. It's a great add to your collection, and believe me, you WILL watch it more than once.
Rating: Summary: I love this movie! Review: I watched a Walk To Remember, and cried throughout the entire movie, which I never do. Yet, this movie has the qualities I love: love, pain, trouble, and endurance. Shane West and Mandy Moore both do equally well, playing the two loves who don't exactly love each other at first. But do to Landon's(West) bad behavior, they are forced to be together. Many things attribute to them coming together. I recommend this to any girl(though guys may like it too), who enjoys a good romance with some cute guys.
Rating: Summary: The best movie that I have seen in a LONG time Review: I thought that this was one of the best movies that I have ever seen. I read the book before I saw the movie but I was really happy that the movie was different from the book. I thought that mandy moore wouldnt have been that good of an actress but she was actually a really good actress. Shane West and Mandy Moore fit the roles really well. They had a lot of chemistry too which always helps in making the movie good. If you dont feel like crying then I woulndt recommend this movie to you. Believe me, it will make you cry! Well even if you dont feel like crying you should still watch this movie, if you're into reading you should read the book too, they're a lot different, but equally good. This is the kind of movie that you want to just cuddle up with your girlfriend(or boyfriend in most cases of people who will be reading this) and watch!
Rating: Summary: One of the best drama films Review: I bought this dvd the day it came out, and I was so glad that I did. Mandy Moore and Shane West had a chemisty that couldn't be beat. Many people seem to think that a singer gone actress is a terrible mistake, but that's not the case in this film. Mandy Moore will capture your attention from start to finish, and she will have you crying in a moment. This is not just another "chick flick" as many would like to put it. Many guys will watch this film and come to appriciate it as well. I know my father did and he's usually not into to romance films. This has something for everyone, and I'm sure you'd enjoy it too. Besides being a great film, the soundtrack is loaded with many artists that help bring the film together.
Rating: Summary: Leave Cynicism at the Front Door Review: The market for teen movies has received enough parody and criticism that any conscientious consumer would rather be caught dead than watching yet another seemingly cookie-cutter sugar-sweet romance produced specifically for the Spears and Co. demographic. Alas, the horror. But in an age of defensive cynicism, A Walk To Remember manages to surface with thematic importance and earnest performances, all backed by a brilliant soundtrack that enters in and out of the film at the most critical cinematic moments. The shining star in this film is Shane West, whose dark warm cello-timbre voice renders even the weakest dialogues beautiful, deep, full of character and verve. Unlike Hayden Christensen in Star Wars Episode II, who basically drew a large fan base through his embodiment of male hormonal despair, Shane West does not resort to cheap displays of his virility to draw in the average female adolescent viewer. In other words, West doesn't act DOWN to his audience; he chooses instead to take on the full complexity of his character, Landon Carter, a lost boy who finds redemption through love. For this reason, his performance is shockingly good. Shame, desire, love, ambition, pain: these and a million other shadows of feeling flicker across his expressive face with startlingly good timing and bracing sincerity. He has mastered the art of portraying multiple emotions at once, in perfect balance. Meanwhile, Mandy Moore has made an extremely wise career move, garnering for herself my complete respect for her through an avid though not flawless rendition of the ethereal too-good-to-die-young preacher's daughter Jamie Sullivan. Although I found Moore's occasional hapless face twitches side-splittingly funny, I was also impressed by her use of voice modulation and eye contact to convey innocence and purity. The role of Jamie is very difficult because it could have easily become cloyingly and disgustingly sweet, but Moore peels back the goody-goody girl label on this character and reveals a fully-developed persona. She delivers a convincing and touching performance using her assets (pretty face, lovely voice) to their fullest potential. Details that I love include the scene in which Landon chooses for Jamie a tattoo: a butterfly (not to hit you over the head with the theme of ephemerality or anything). When Jamie contemplates life after death and says, "It's like this journey never ends," I appreciate the reference to life as a walk to remember. In addition, the scene of the high school theatrical production (in which Moore, playing Jamie, playing Alicia the songstress, serenades West, playing Landon) is a gem. Although the camera angles and shooting style incline toward MTV video format, the chemistry between West and Moore is indisputably interesting to watch. The ravishing song composed by the band Switchfoot's lead singer Jonathan Foreman, "Only Hope," plugs perfectly into the thematic elements of the film, with lyrics that resonate with the storyline and amplify it gorgeously. (I've also heard that one of the deleted scenes featured Landon singing the song back to Jamie as she lies on her deathbed. This scene was cut because the director thought the tragic touch would be too heavy-handed.) The kind of choices made in this film - music, casting, lighting, scene transitions, dialogue, and character interplay - reveal a thoughtful, intelligent, and greatly successful effort to retain all the beauty and literary nuances of Nicholas Sparks' original bestselling novel. On a last note, I think there is much to be praised in a film that, unlike Britney's Crossroads, chooses to emphasize the metaphysical aspects of young love. Our sensibilities are not crudely awakened by distasteful displays of thrifty passion (i.e., actors take off clothes, camera pans out over naked glistening bodies, and BAM, we're in a reproduction of I'm a Slave 4 U!). Instead, there is subtlely, chastity, and poetry in the love between Landon and Jamie. A Walk to Remember has transcended the sexual and achieved the delicately sensual. As a result, our impression of first love is not dirtied or degraded in this film, but becomes enshrined in a perfect tragic memory narrated through the voice of Landon. Although I am not proclaiming a moral condemnation of Britney Spears' self-referential, self-promoting film attempt (after all, I did pay for movie tickets to take my little sister to the show - unfortunately), but I am delighted that Moore has enlisted in an artistic project that is complete and fulfilling on its own. That is, of course, unless you love the soundtrack so much that you buy both the VHS and the CD. A film with wide appeal, magical resonance, and class, A Walk to Remember is worth my hardearned dollars. You will be enchanted.
Rating: Summary: Something 'to Remember' Review: Man, Landon Carter should have known better. His would-be girlfriend Jamie Sullivan was dying of leukemia. For real, he should have stuck to his bad boy ways and listened to Fuel for the rest of the movie. Shane West is only a mortal and he proves himself in this wannabe tearjerker movie. Mandy Moore of all people doesn't put any make-up on in this movie and I was ashamed. Although she delivers an exceptional performance, she didn't sing "Candy"! "I'm missing you like candy!" Not heard here! Blasphemy! Pity for Shane West for not getting the John Connor part in the "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" masterpiece. He doesn't have "whatever it takes" to be a god like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Oh yeah, back to the movie. Landon falls in love with the outcast Jamie and their connection is true as they look at the stars at night. Oh, it was deeply touching, it's true, it's true. No, I was touched when they got married at the end and then time passed with her. It was almost sad, but it had my sister creating niagra falls. Salty!
Rating: Summary: The Best Movie Ever Review: A Walk To Remember is the best movie i ever seen cuz its all bout teen love and at first i thought this movie was goin to be anther borin teen movie ending the same as other teen movies but it suprised me and I think that shane west and Mandy moore did a wonderful job acting and they couldnt pick better actors....
Rating: Summary: One of my new favorites Review: When my girlfriend first told me she wanted to see this movie, I avoided it for as long as possible. When she finally got me to watch it in early July I regretted waiting so long. It started off just like every other teen movie in the world, but that pace quickly changed. We see popular kid Landen Carter (Shane West) receive a "fitting punishment" for being seen drinking on school campus on a Saturday night. This punishment includes janitorial work, tutoring disadvantaged students, and taking part in the Drama Club's spring play. During all these events, he runs into the immensely unpopular Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore). We see Landen change over the course of the movie as he spends more and more time with Jamie, and we come to realize that they're falling in love. A surprise twist complicates their deep and true love for one another, and the ending almost left even me, an 18 year old male, in tears. This movie is most definately a must see. You'll love it as much as I do.
