Summary: WASN'T THE GREATEST MOVIE, BUT IT WAS HELLA FUNNY
Review: This wasn't the greatest movie, but it wasn't trying to be. "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is definitely THE funniest movie based on a beauty pageant. "Gorgeous" doesn't really have any punch lines or planned jokes. The comedy just seems to come out of nowhere and hit you in the face like a brick, literally. I laughed really hard and I know you will too. Worth a viewing.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: When I began watching this I was somewhat hesitant as it seemed to start a little slowly. By the time it was finsihed I was laughing so much and enjoying it so I didn't want it to end. Very sharp parody of beauty contests with sharp wit to boot. I tend to like my comedy on the dark side and this movie is perfect. Just a great, entertaining, funny, and energetic movie. Enjoy it.

Summary: What more can I say?
Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous is a very funny (sometimes hilarious) poke at middle America and the world of beauty pageants. All of the acting is very good, and the best jokes are the characters themselves. Let's see, you have the Japanese couple so proud of their white daughter; Sam McMurray as the smarmy, bigoted owner of a furniture store; Ellen Barkin with the beer can fried to her hand; and Denise Richards dancing with - well, I don't want to spoil that one for you. And there's more! It's hilarious. I thought the ending dragged on a bit too long (and wasn't so funny as the rest of the film) but despite that, I enjoyed the story and actors a great deal. This is a goofy movie, but it's smart! And so there's no guilt in watching (and liking) it.

Summary: A very funny movie with a great cast.
Review: This is an exceedingly funny movie, with much off-the-wall, politically-incorrect humor. Some of the humor is based on peculiarities of the American Midwest, which I can easily relate to since I live in Minnesota. However, regardless of where you live, you will find much to laugh at in this movie.

The cast in the film is superb. Kirstin Dunst is simply excellent, as she is in all her films. Denise Richards is well, drop dead gorgeous. Even Kirsite Alley, who at times can be annoying, was very funny in this movie as a VERY pushy mother.

Do yourself a favor, and pick up a copy of this film. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: Bring Out the Young Girls, er, Contestants!
Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous is absolutely one of the funniest movies I can remember, yet it barely made a blip on the radar in theatres back in the summer of 99. Well, my cousin recommended it to me and after one rental, it was a must buy.

As others have mentioned, Drop Dead Gorgeous is a mockumentary of the Sarah Rose Cosmetics American Teen Princess pageant. The small town of Mount Rose, Minnesota will never be the same!

The casting of this movie is absolutely perfect. There is not a weak line or scene in the film. Kirstie Alley is wonderful as Gladys Leeman and Denise Richards is the lovely Rebecca Ann Leeman. Some of the most wickedly funny lines and scenes come from these two. Our poor little underdogs of the trailer park are Amber Atkins (Kirsten Dunst) and her mother (Ellen Barkin). The talented Amber doesn't have a chance since the pageant is rigged by the wealthy Leemans - but she'll keep trying!

Some of the best scenes, however, come from the numerous supporting actors and actresses. Especially memorable are the various girls competing in the pageant - every town has them - the trashy one, the one who likes dogs, the female athlete, the artsy one, all the girls you went to high school with. Also unforgettable especially is Alison Janney who provides Amber with moral support through the movie and provides much needed comic relief even in the most serious of scenes!

Of course, what would be a pageant without a pervert? One of the judges is quite excited about being selected as a judge and enjoys every move the girls make. "I guess we should bring out the young girls, er, contestants".

Despite the wicked humor, you grow to love Amber Atkins and her spirit to triumph against the Lemans' empire of tyranny in Mount Rose. After all, as Amber says "Guys get out of Mount Rose all the time - hockey scholarships, prison". You'll be rooting for Amber and laughing through every dark and wicked joke. If you missed Drop Dead Gorgeous, pick it up and tell a friend.

Summary: I'd be a beauty queen if I were 16. (well, that and a girl)
Review: To be honest when I first saw a preview for this movie, I was not at all encouraged to go see it. I thought it was going to be some silly little story about two girls competing against each other in a beauty pageant. It turns out I was wrong. It is a silly little story about two girls competing against each other in a beauty pageant, but its absolutely hilarious.

"Drop Dead Gorgeous" is a very subtle black comedy. And when they say "Drop Dead" they mean it. But unlike some other black comedies, this is no blood bath. The plot of the movie progresses very smoothly. Lona Williams (writer) and Michael Patrick Jann (director) have done a wonderful job of pacing the film. So wonderful, in fact that when deaths do occur they almost shock you.

Almost.

The murders are placed just far enough apart that you almost forget about the previous one and aren't expecting one, but close enough together to not shock you and to allow them to be funny.

Supporting actress Allison Janney delivers a hilarious performance, displaying her absolute mastery of her craft (in comparison to her very poignant role in her next film "American Beauty").

Kirstie Alley has her best performance in years. And while Kirsten Dunst's role was not nearly as groundbreaking as her performance in the "Virgin Suicides", not faults can really be found with it. On top of this we add the talents of Denise Richards and Ellen Barkin as well as several very funny supporting actors in character roles.

More than just poking fun at death, the film examines commonplace themes in American culture that might almost seem mediocre. This is a social commentary about America's fascination with murder (though not as in depth as in "Natural Born Killers"), religion (though less so than "Dogma"), the pursuit of beauty and popularity (as in "Jawbreaker" though I enjoyed this film far more), television (though less so than "Ringmaster") and the sexual objectification of teenage girls (as in the "American Pie" or "Poison Ivy" series of movies and any number of other recent teen Lolita or sexual awakening flicks). "Drop Dead Gorgeous" might not be the most in depth of any of these films, but it weaves all of these elements together in a wonderfully amusing tale. The film pokes fun at the religion, homosexuality, the rich, white trash, prison, teen pregnancy, the mentally challenged and just about everything else that it could be politically incorrect to poke fun at, and yet it does so in such a light hearted way that it is difficult for anyone with a sense of humor to not be amused by it.

I recommend this to anyone who has a thick enough skin to enjoy an insulting comic that pokes fun at all of us.

Summary: Crowns, Flowers, Smiles and Chaotic Mishaps
Review: A witty, very funny comedy that pokes fun at Midwest America's infatuation with the beauty pageant circuits, "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is a one of the best black comedies I've seen in a while. The movie which takes place in the fictional Minnesotan town of Mt. Rose, revolves around the rivalry between two teens and their parents: the rich and affluent Leemans and the low and unfortunate Atkins.

Rebecca Leeman (played by "Cheers" Kirstie Alley) and her daughter Becky Lee (Denise Richards of "The World is Not Enough" fame) are the town's most despised do-gooders. As die-hard Christian fundamentalists who are able to get their way any day, Becky Lee is on her way to winning the annual Sarah Rose beauty pageant. However, one teen stands in her way: Amber Atkins. Amber (played wonderfully by Kirsten Dunst of "Interview with the Vampire" fame) and her mother (Ellen Barkin ) live in a trailer and try to survive by taking odd jobs. As a beautician at a local funeral home and a dishwasher at school, Amber has dreams of following her idol, Diane Sawyer, and becoming a news anchor.

As the plot develops, the number of contestants in the pageant is mysteriously dropping out, Whether it is due to explosions, falling props, or other mishaps, something sinister is happening in Mt. Rose. With a very funny script and wonderful supporting players such as Allison Janney ("The West Wing"), Brittany Murphy ("Clueless") and Sam McMurray ("Tracey Ullman Show"), "Drop Dead Gorgeous" will make you laugh out loud. Dunst's character has to be one of the most luckiest underdogs in film history as she is able to reach her goals due to all the mishaps that occur towards the end of the film, and Kirstie Alley is wonderful as the over-zealous mom who would do anything for her daughter to win. While the film was not that well received in at the box office due to little publicity, it is a hidden gem among the many films released in the last five years. Great cast, script, soundtrack, and direction make this film a must-see for everyone.

Summary: Any Movie Where You Can See Vomiting Beauty Queens Is Great!
Review: The title describes it all. I do not think that I have seen a more perverse, gross out, yicky film, and I loved it. I do not see how anyone could not love it. It centers around a girl who is in a local beauty pagent, but that doesn't really matter. I can not begin to describe the amount of joy this movie brought to my families eyes. I am a semi-religious person, and...well if you are Lutheran, SKIP THIS MOVIE, but if you are just a fun loving guy, and can realize that it is just a movie...Oh My Goodness...you have got to watch it! Here is a list of great things about this wonderful movie of my dreams: 1) The Wisconsin(Wiscansan)/Minnesota(Minnesoda) accents! 2)VOMITING BEAUTY QUEENS FROM POORLY STORED SHELL FISH! 3)They are all hot, so your eyes won't get bored no matter what! 4)Kirstey Alley going nuts, and just being her Kirstey Alley self 5)EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE!

Summary: I've watched this about 15 times and I would watch it again.
Review: This is currently my favorite movie (Gladiator and Matrix are my other two favs) and I laugh every time I watch it many times thoughout the movie. My wife and I quote many lines from the movie and even though she didn't like it that much the first time, she absolutely loves it now. The movie can seem a little shocking the first time with all the bad stuff that happens and how lightly the characters take it but once you realize that the movie crosses all boundaries and pokes fun at everything and everyone, it just makes you smile. Kirsten Dunst is incredibly cute. All the characters are very funny, probably about a 100 funny lines in the movie, although Kirstie Allie can be annoying since her accent seems more Spanish than Minnesotan, but then she probably hangs out with her "husband's many Mehican workers".

Awesome movie.
