Summary: For anyone who's ever poked fun at Miss America...
Review: Sure, the premise (i.e. the Sarah Rose Cosmetics beauty pageant) sounds a *bit* too common to be even remotely tolerable, especially for those of us who live in passionate hatred of those cookie-cutter teenage comedies. I was coaxed into watching it by a few persistant friends, however, and - within the first 5 minutes - was able to fully appreciate it for the brilliant, terribly underrated film that it is. Hiliarious, this one. I wouldn't recommend it to the gung-ho PCs, as it does tend to be a bit crass at times, but if you've an open mind and can appreciate humor directed at the anorexic, the retarded, and the Minnesotan, then it comes high with my recommendations. (Bear in mind that it's not *overly* (i.e. Jim Carrey) crude; there's actually quite a bit of intellect and wit behind the script.) It takes an original spin on easy targets - beauty pageants, their participants, and the infamous pageant mother - and the overall format (i.e. a documentary marking the pageant's 50th anniversary) makes for an interesting perspective on things. (And, unlike the Blair Witch Project's documentary-style filming, Drop Dead Gorgeous does not lead to motion sickness. Which I really, really appreciate.) Smart casting, as well. I've since been struck by a newfound respect for Kirstie Alley, based on her role in this. It's hard to review a movie without giving away too much of the plot. So, again, it was sadly underrated when it came out and wholly deserves an extended life on the Blockbuster Video shelves. Try it. You'll like.

Summary: Loved it, Loved it, Loved it!
Review: This is camp at its best. Very funny take on Mid-WesternAmerican beauty pagents. Great acting, funny script and a hystericaland silly plot. Anyone with a sense of humor from any Mid-western state should get a kick out of the satire in this film. Definitely not to be taken seriously. This movie is a hoot!

Summary: surprisingly funny
Review: When this movie was released I decided to skip it because I didn't think it would be all that funny. I was wrong! My husband and I read the screenplay first, and after laughing out loud several times while reading it, we decided we just had to buy the video. I expected it to be a darker comedy than it is. There are some really, really good jokes in there, and some hilarious situations. The acting is great (Dunst is especially good.) I can easily recommend this one.

Summary: Killer comedy
Review: I decided to see this movie because I'm a fan of Kirsten Dunst, and boy, did I find a great film. When I heard that it was a beauty pageant satire, I thought, oh great--a satire is one of those smart movies that makes you think, isn't it? ;) Well, this film is definitely a satire, done in a documentary style. It's about a small town beauty pageant, and I can't stress how funny this film is. The characters--from the dog-lover to the girl who thinks she's great at sign language to Tammy Curry, the unfortunate Lutheran Sisterhood Gun Club president--are bound to remind you of people you know in real life. The honest portrayal of realistic (though usually wacky) characters is one of the reasons this movie is so funny. A few running jokes, like one pageant judge's denial of love for young girls and a judge's brother's, aka "The Retard", antics, grow old as they are done over and over. This film earns its rating due to some excessive, though mild, language and probably due to some somewhat graphic scenes involving meat processing and the after-effects of food poisoning. I give it five stars for being just so darned FUNNY! If you're a fan of Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley, Denise Richards, Allison Janney, or any of the stars for that matter, you're bound to enjoy this.

Summary: Some good, some bad
Review: I guess I'm just too much of a stick in the mud. The retard jokes, the immigrant jokes, etc. nearly turned me off, as did the lame "documentary" format, and playing up the Minnesota accents. All of these are old ideas, not necessarily funny to begin with, and not executed particularly well here. On the otherhand, most of the principals played their roles pretty well, and most were pretty funny. Nora Dunn is terrific in a small part. Beauty pageants are a great target; the next day, we were watching the E! True Hollywood Story on Darva Conger, and there's great footage of her performing in a small town pageant just like this one. The beauty pageant, and what it means to the women in the film is the meat of the matter. In a town where the Lutheran Sisterhood Gun Club presidency is a distant second in terms of teenage prestige, the pageant is something everyone does, and it is the only way out. The desperation is visible in these characters, and it provides the heart of the film. Otherwise, it wouldn't even justify the second star.

Review: Although this movie may not have too much depth, it is the most hilarious movie. Though, the comedy does seem to be pretty shameless. The writing would do anything to get a laugh. Though, he is kind of funny, the "retard" mock is a bit childish and the only part of the movie that i thought wasn't all that funny.

Summary: Worth Seeing
Review: I enjoy crude films. Crude comedies at least. Perhaps better put--I enjoy dark comedies. And that is what this film is, and the best all year. I went into this film possibly expecting a new Clueless. Boy was I wrong. The film is done in a documentary style covering a small town beauty pagent. Sure, this sets the film up for the easy jokes of catching people unexpected and at their rudest, but that is not where the true genius of the film is. The film is brilliant in the unexpected things that it does throw at you. Go see it and then tell me if you saw the tractor or the seafood scenes coming. You won't, I promise. They will shock you and provide two of the biggest laughs of the film. But there are smaller laughs throughout the entire film such as these. So what's wrong? Not much, except when you think it is over it seems to drag on a bit. The last fifteen minutes or so, while funny, seem less joke packed than the rest of the film. Still, it is one of the few must see comedies of the year. It is very crude, so if easily offended stay away, but for anyone else it is more than worth your money.

Summary: Drop Dead Hilarious
Review: I had no intentions to see this movie until my sister and her friend rented it. Behind the camera is a "documentary crew" coming to Mount Rose, Minnesota to film 17-year-old girls competing in a local pagent which could lead into representing Minnesota and hopefully U.S.A. But power-hungry parents, girls striving to win, and wacked up judges make the pageant more than a fun activity. It is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in my life. Familiar faces such as Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, Denise Richards, and Brittany Murphy make you laugh out loud through out the whole movie. But it is a movie where you have to follow the storyline instead of having it jump out at you. Drop Dead Gorgeous is Drop Dead Hilarious!

Review: This movie is funny and entertaining. The film is set up as a documentary for The Miss Teen Pageant. Who will win? Kirstie Alley, Kirsten Dunst and Denise Richards star in this comedy film. But slowly all of Kirsten's friends keep on dying, one by one.
