Summary: for pot-heads & sober folk alike
Review: There's a misconception that you must be on drugs to appreciate drug humor. This could not be more false. People who smoke will bust up at this movie because, well, it's them. To an extent. But non-smokers like me may laugh even harder, because for us it is a perfect example of why we don't smoke. These characters are moronic, juvenile, brainless, pathetic, and totally hilarious in the way the flop about like stoned headless chickens. We all know how ridiculous pot-heads are, and this is one of the most affectionate movies to illustrate that. I actually consider it an anti-weed movie, because it shows the reality of what weed does to you: makes you a moron. Nothing more, nothing less, well, assuming you smoke enough of it. Drug-paranoid conservatives will no doubt fear and loathe a movie like this, as will pretentious intellectuals who think all movies must be meaningful. But for those of us who can take life and all contained therein with a grain of salt, this is perhaps one of the funniest movies of the last decade. And how can you not like the precious one-liners this film is full of? For example: when Kenny is asked how he's being treated in jail, he responds with "Let's just say I'm not getting the respect a cop killer deserves." If you like absurd, manic, and yes I'll say it about this movie, smart comedy, check out Half-Baked.

Summary: Fully Baked
Review: Perhaps I missed out on the whole joke of the Cheech & Chong films, but for the most part I find them boring and very dated. They being about the only precedent for a stoner film, Half-Baked is far superior in terms of laughs per minute and also portraying stoners in a more 'realistic' manner.

As a 'baker' myself, I am more susceptible to being entertained by stoner humor than the non-baker, but Half-Baked was so funny that my wife and I watched it back to back on two evenings. There were many gags that we missed the first time around (I missed, "you gave Mary Jane a pearl necklace, how much did that cost?") and the film was just as funny the next day seeing the film over again. We are pretty critical of films, many of which we don't even finish one viewing of due to being able to predict the entire plot 10 minutes into the picture.

Of course, if it is within your capability, some baking before the show augments the humor of the film. I said that the film is 'more realistic' in terms of bakers being able to identify with the characters more so than I think anyone could identify with Cheech or Chong. Let's face it, probably 10% of the population are regular bakers, and often these bakers are doctors, engineers, lawyers, physicists, and even police. Bakers do not wish to see themselves portrayed as degenerates or social deviants, but rather as individuals who are contributors to society and happen to enjoy a good splif.

Naturally, bakers have a sense of humor about themselves and this film very accurately portrays some of the humor common to many - the cameos of the 'typical stoners' is utterly hysterical. I think even the non-baker can appreciate this montage as it is in a way making fun of bakers. BTW, my wife is a non-baker and she especially appreciated the Jon Stewart sequence (along with the incomparable Janeane Garofalo's enormous attic furnished with only two chairs - need we say more? She is a goddess!).

The entire cast is incredible, but we especially appreciated Harland Williams' Kenny character - we replayed his 'angry face' scene probably a dozen times. One reviewer describes Harland's comedic style as an 'acquired taste' and I thought that was brilliant.

I hope that even those who are not bakers will see past their personal prejudices and open themselves to enjoying this amazing film.

Summary: Half baked, totally zonked
Review: I don't use drugs, I don't condone drug use, but this is one funny movie. Dave Chappelle--the second coming of Jimmie Walker--is hilarious, and his supporting cast are perfect playing the part of those charmed losers everyone knows who somehow slouch through life. Weak plot? So what! How much plot did "Up in Smoke" have? This is drug humor: there's only as much plot as is needed to string together one goofy gag after another. Nothing profound here, just a dependable two hours of laughs.

Summary: Half Baked is "fully"
Review: An instant cult classic in the genre of Cheech and Chong and other stoner/filmakers. A hare-brained scheme to get their friend out of jail (in particular, the shower) leads these geniuses on a euphoric, ethereal quest to bud nirvana.

A good mix of characters, led by Dave Chappelle, covers the amalgam of stoner living arrangements and friendships. The Deadhead in the cast is played perfectly by Jim Breuer; his views on life on are entirely based on the book of Jerry. A "phat" list of celeb cameos are also quite hilarious, particularly Jon Stewart. A guaranteed good time for those partaking or not.

Review: The people that reviewed this movie that gave it less than 4 stars just have their head up their [u know what]. I am going to make this brief. This movie made me laugh the hardest since Monty Python! Now, ok, this movie could be a little stupid, but the overall plot is just great, addiction vs relationship, friendship vs money and hardships of life are just some of the conflicts in the movie. I saw this movie just for the heck of it. I wasn't expecting much, for I thought it would just be another Bio-dome or Black Sheep. I am not a fan of those types of movies, and yet I thought Half Baked was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. Don't listen to those uptight people who thought this movie bombed.

Summary: One of the best comedy movies I have ever seen
Review: I have to tell you, I have seen alot of comedy movies, but this one is not only funny, it is hilarious. Jim Brewer is such a talented comedian, I dont now why you dont see him around in alot of other movies. One of the funniest parts in this movie has got to be when Thurgood goes to sell Sir Smoke alo the whole pound of marijuana, and he starts to tell Thurgood about his life, such as comments like "He had sex with my mamma",and "get away from me biatch, I am impotent". Another great part is when Thurgood has to take Mary Jane out on a date, and the whole thing with how much money he had and the meter thing was very clever. This movie is definately a must buy comedy.
