Rating: Summary: Silly fun movie Review: Stiller plays a top male fashion model, trying to rediscover the real person within and also trying to be the top world model 4 years in a row. Silly and stupid jokes. Almost a cheap spoof of characters you've seen in Austin Powers movies. Colorful and clean settings. This movie is not the greatest of his works but it still is worth the renting for a night. Similar in taste to MEET THE PARENTS.
Rating: Summary: Guilty pleasure Review: I almost hate to admit it, but this is a funny movie. I was filled with trepidation when it started, because everything I'd heard was so negative. Those who criticize it are right - it is really, really stupid. But it's one of those movies that KNOWS it's stupid, and somehow makes it OK with a wink and a nudge, inviting you inside. The incredible insularity of these characters, who don't realize how shallow and petty they are, trapped in a plot that only makes sense if you accept their world view that being a male model is important, has a lot to do both with why it's funny and why the humor works. The "walk off," the gas station scene, the center for kids who don't read so good, the coal mine scene, and lines like "I've got a prostate the size of a honeydew and a headful of bad memories" delivered in utmost earnestness ... it's just funny. And somehow the movie makes you sympathize with this incredible idiot at the center of the plot, probably because you catch just a glimpse that maybe he realizes how stupid he is. The soundtrack of mostly 80s pop tunes is pretty good too. This is not a classic, it's about as thin as the material it parodies. But it's also one the funiest movie I've seen in a couple of years. I don't know if that's a comment on me, the movie, or the state of cinema comedy these days. (On the down side: I had "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" running through my head for three days after. Oh God, here it comes again!)
Rating: Summary: Definitely hillarious! Review: I don't know where to start.... Either you love this movie or you hate it.I love dumb humor movies but there was something about "Zoolander" that appealed to me. I guess to watch a movie poking fun at the modeling industry and the jokes throughout the film, I found it hillarious. I really liked how the DVD was made, very "Austin Powers 2" like with talking during the menu selections, people dancing on certain screens and the typical secret easter egg center. The DVD has a plethora of special features and looked great in terms of video quality and audio quality was ok (since this is mostly a talky). The plot is situated around the fashion industry and male models. Some people will laugh their head off and some will think it maybe just too stupid. So, it depends on the individual.
Rating: Summary: Plot not big enough to carry out a full feature Review: I really like Ben Stiller, and I really thoght that I'd like thisfilm, seing that he wrote, starred, and directed (He has directed 2 other terrible films, Reality Bites and The Cable Guy) in it. Maybe this is the side of his humor I don't like. I also like his dad, Jerry Stiller, who had a small role in the film. Will Ferrel, the fasion industry jerk was, well, Will Ferrow. Hansel, played by Owen Wilsen, was only good since I'm an Owen Wilson fan. I can see why the skit was popular; the movie would make sence better as a small film. I really thought that it dragged, and they could cut out half of it, thus making it a very entertaining 45 minute film. Some of the scenes were terrible, while I enjoyed a lot of the deleted scenes. I think that this film is at least worth renting. I did not see the original skit, but I would like to. My favorite part on the DVD was Ben Stiller as Zoolander explaining the "really, really, ridiculously good looking animated menues." Scene selection: "So you can fast forward through people not as rediculously as good looking as me." Audio: "So you can watch it it French." Special Features: "My eyebrows." If you like this film at all, BUY THIS DVD!!!! I was lent it by a friend and I was impressed. There are a lot of jokes in this film. Some work, som don't, but it's still entertaining. I was not exactly dissapointed with this film. I am not going to give anything away from the many funny things. But, my two favorites were ( 1. This scene shows Zoolanders really, rediculously bad vocabulary. Matilda Jefferies: (sigh) Derek Zoolander: What MJ: In 7th grade, I, uh, became, (pause), bolhemic. DZ: You can read minds? 2. Derek decides to open up a "Derek Zoolander school for kids who can't read good and would like to do other things as well because there's more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.") Yes, making an entertaining film. I wasn't exactly impressed with this, but I was entertained. B-
Rating: Summary: you must be drunk to make this movie tolerable Review: You gotta be drunk my wife wasn't and suffered through it, it was only bearable to watch because my buddies and I were drinking throughout it the whole time. this is the stupidest movie ever and probably is what caused us to drink so much to dull the torture of this movie. DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST movies EVER!!!! Review: I think that this movie is one of the best movies that I have ever seen!!!! The comedy is outstanding!!!! 5 STARS!!!!! This movie I watched 6 times in a row, and was laughing a lot even on my 6th time watching it! If you love comedy, you will LOVE this movie! Once you see it you will want to own it, and watch it over and over again!
Rating: Summary: Is there more to life than be ridiculously good looking? Review: Derek Zoolander is one of the hottest male models ever, until Hansel steps onto the scene and steals the covetted male model award away from Derek. Now Derek contemplates if there is more to life than being really ridiculously good looking. But when you are at your weakest is when people begin to take advantage of you and so it is in Zoolander's case. He becomes a pawn in fashion designer Mugatu's evil plan to kill the prime minister of Malaysia to keep sweat shops going. Thank goodness for Matilda an inquisitive beauty who helps Derek realize he's being brain washed. This movie is great! Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are hilarious as male models and Christine Taylor does an excellent job as Matilda. This movie is a must see, or else someone's going to be reading your ugoogaly!
Rating: Summary: The trailer was better than the movie Review: This movie was very over hyped. I like Ben Stiller, but this movie was not his best. Like most comedies today, the funniest parts were already shown in the movie trailer. This is the first movie I've rented in ages that I couldn't finish watching. Here's a tip: If a movie has more than 3 celebrity cameos, the filmmakers are relying on that to keep your attention and not their movie. It's Hollywood's version of Where's Waldo. Please, rent before you buy. Remember this is just MY opinion. I'm no expert.
Rating: Summary: That Hansel--He's Hot Right Now Review: This is a genius film! Ben Stiller's other directing projects were just as well conceived, (especially 1996's under-rated "The Cable Guy")but this one takes the cake. For those of you who thought it was the worst thing you've ever seen, you're thinking too hard. I'll take the hilarious offbeat humour of this masterpiece any day over the overly-pretentious, ADD-induced, first forty minutes of Moulin Rouge (And I'm sure that 90% of the reviewers who hated this film, loved Moulin Rouge). Trust me, watch this one again. You should be thanking comedians like Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell for indulging in their own risky, offbeat humour, that cares little what critics think and, instead, comes from their brilliant, original comedic whims. At least these guys have the [stuff] to put what THEY think is funny in a movie, not what the MASS PUBLIC will think is funny (because most of the time--Scary Movie, American Pie 2, Saving Silverman being perfect examples--it isn't). Five Stars.
Rating: Summary: TWO AND A HALF STARS Review: This movie is mostly just downright stupid and takes half an hour to get any good. Depending on your sense of humor you may find it hilarious to see Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson strutting and preening like a couple of peacocks and some of the movie actuallly is pretty funny, but I found it mostly embarrassing;I guess it all comes down to personal preference. However there are lots of cameo appearances (everyone from Donald Trump to Madonna) which may maintain your interest.Though if the phrase "stupid is as stupid does" sums up your personality, then you'll probably love this.
