Summary: This movie rocks
Review: This is one of the funniest movies of all time. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are showing their comical side for the first time as Loki and Bartleby, two angels kickedn out of heaven for fipping off God. Chris Rock shows up as a 13th apostle, and Mallrat's Jay and Bob try to destroy the angels. This is a great movie

Summary: A jem of a film
Review: I am waiting anxiously for this film to be released on dvd. The performances were wonderful, the writing clean and yet fun. It is Kevin Smith's best film to date. Unlike other films that have taken on biblical subject matter and made a mess of it (with the exception of 'Monty Python's Life of Brian'), I believe this film keeps it humor. I believe this will be a classic in the years to come.

Summary: Kevin Smith's Best!
Review: The latest battle in the eternal war between Good and Evil has come to New Jersey in the late, late 20th Century. In what can only be deemed a comedy parable, two renegade fallen angels attempt to jerry-rig the entire cosmological system -- unless a rag-tag group of humans can stop faith. Bethany, the heroine of DOGMA, is a woman who feels her prayers haven't been answered when, out of nowhere, a heralding angel appears in her bedroom and declares her the potential savior of humanity. This abrupt meeting sets her off on an extraordinary journey of mystery, comedy and suspense as she is transported to a fantastical world of celestial characters and spirited adventure. Along the way she will meet up with a heaven-sent messenger, an apostle with a 2,000 year old beef, a hotheaded demon, a heavenly Muse and two unlikely Prophets known as Jay and Silent Bob as they each discover the power of their own individual faith.

Summary: Amos and Andy in Heaven
Review: Wow, another film attacking religious views, written by someone whose narrow-minded viewpoints on the subject probably derived from tabloids and Oprah. The film has well-written/acted funny moments, but then again, so do Amos and Andy videos and the vintage black-face minstrel shows. They all share one thing in common -- they insult a "group" which is (at the moment) hated by the Hollywood elite.

Don't get me wrong, if the movie had any genuine substance to it, I'd probably get concerned. But, as it is, "Dogma" ultimately ends up a disappointment even as a comedy. In a couple of years it will be forgotten.

Summary: Worth watching, but not his best
Review: The first time I saw this film, I absolutely loved it--I saw it with a large group of open-midned Catholic students floowed by a two-hour interview with Kevin Smith. Definitely the preferred viewing. I watched it again with some Jesuits, and came to two mutual conclusions. 1) Getting truly offended by this film is lunacy. 2)Nevertheless, the film is not very good. Kevin Smith is classic here, and the film is quite effective in its parody moments. Its other best moment is a very serious dialogue between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who worked the actor's equivalent of minimum wage for their friend Smith when they could have been making millions. As evidenced by the mix of dramatic dialogue and parody, however, this film never quite figures out what it wants to be. It jumps from one genre to the next, with reckless abandon, forgetting to take the story line with it, and several moments are too childish to be funny. That said, however, you cannot be too mad at Smith for making a loosely coherent movie. He's only made one other film that tried to be coherent (and succeeded), Chasing Amy. Also unlinke his other films, the acting is excellent--the cast ranges from the good to the amazing, rather than the traditional smith range of the very good to the awful. And his dialogue here, while not quite par with his other movies, is better than nearly any other popular screenwriter. As a movie that you want to see that is fun to watch, this gets four and 1/2 stars. As an effective theologial statement, it gets two. His slowly emerging pictuer of what he thinks is good faith is confused and vapid--basically, his idea is that the object of faith is irrelevant, which kind of overlooks the natuerr of faith along every standpoint, from human psychology to grammar (we have faith *in* something). None of it is offensive, because in the end, it's not saying anything. To be *theologically* offensive, you need a great work, like Last Temptation of Christ.

Summary: Not only Kevin Smith's best - but an excellent overall movie
Review: Dogma, the latest in Kevin Smith's series of movies featuring Jay & Silent Bob is in my opinion his best film! Dogma is a brilliant comedy and play on religion, complete with masterfully written dialogue which is Kevin Smith's best trademark - except for Jay & Silent Bob of course!

Summary: Dogma Rules
Review: Dogma is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Kevin Smith is a great director. Ben Afflect and Matt Damon star as angels trying to get back into heaven. They are helped by a demond, Jason Lee. Linda Fiorentino is the person sent on a quest to stop total destruction, by stoping the angels. She is aided by Salma Hayek, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith(Director), Alan Rickman, and Chris Rock. You'll laugh a lot, buy it.

Summary: Blasphemous? No way!
Review: Lots of people are saying this film is blasphemous and anti-religious, and that it pokes fun at God. Do you know WHO says that? The people who have NEVER seen it and only think it does that because the 700 Club told them so. In reality, this film is very well researched and even though it has some wild parts as far as religion goes, you'll know when it's just a joke. And when he's being serious about religion, you're sitting there thinking "yeah, he's right"! It's meant to be fun and intellegent. This is not a Jim Carrey "slap myself in the face 20 times to get a laugh" kinda flick. It's smart, intellegent and funny. But I'll be the first to say, if you can't laugh (even just a little) at religion...then don't waist your time (and for that I pity you).

Summary: One of Smith's best!
Review: This was the one that caused all of the religious controversy before it was even released. In Kevin Smith's latest two fallen angels have found a loop-hole back in to heaven and could destroy all existence. The last Scion must stop them with the help of two prohepts, Jay and Silent Bob. It is a GREAT movie. Kevin Smith still stays hilarious but it makes a move in to a little more serious. It is definitly one to watch, especially for fans of Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy. If you like Kevin Smith movies, you won't be disappointed.

Summary: I like this movie
Review: This was a very funny flick, but dont watch it if you are a stuffy, over-sensitive, religious fanatic, because you'll just get offended. BUT if you have a good sense of humor and appreciate witty dialogue, then this is a great choice. Better then Chasing Amy, being that there is no sappy love-story stuck in it.
