Summary: This is a great movie!
Review: This is one of the BEST movies I have ever seen! I can't think of one bad thing about it. I mean, it is jam-packed with brilliant actors and actresses, especially Matt Damon (he's so cute in this!). The script is hilarious...and there are so many memorable lines, it's just crazy! This is one of my favorites though: Damon: "Mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in...next to soccer." Now tell me that's not genious! LOL

Review: If you're looking for a great review, just read what that Brad guy had to say. If you're looking for a no frizz review, engage reading now! To begin with, this film was off-the-cuff blasphemy that you can't find anywhere else. It wasn't really making fun of religion, just those zealous practitioners. Although Dogma wasn't Kevin Smith's finest work of art, it was truly entertaining. If you want a good laugh on a saturday night and you're not a tight A-hole then rent it. Otherwise go to church and be happy. (Not that that's bad or anything - just don't email me.)

Summary: RE: A VIEWER FROM DOGMA USA
Review: I am so glad you wrote that comment. This DVD should have been in our happy hands mid January! It has been pushed back several times now. Nobody knows why, the studio will not comment. Viewaskew.com simply says blame the lawyers. Why? What legality is keeping one of the more refreshing and hillarious films in recent memory off our shelves? This is silly! DVD is thriving but upsets like this make me wonder if it is worth it. So I join Whereisdogma@aol.com and ask anyone who knows why this DVD is really being delayed to write me at WRSDEHJB@AOL.COM. I doubt this upsetting delay is an act of God...

Summary: Why the critics hate this show...
Review: Personally, I am a crude, profain marine. Until I saw this show I thought nothing could offend me. This group of usually good actors crosses the line. I watched this show with a party of twenty-something people---none of them particularly religious---who all wanted to take a shower after watching this sickening show. Unless you aspire to be just like Maralyn Manson, you will wish you didn't watch it. I consider seeing this movie one of the worst two hours I have ever spent.

Summary: Not for dogmatics!
Review: This provocative and fabulous movie has been dubbed scandal, simplistic and tasteless; that it undermines society's accepted moral codes, insults moral and family values; that it's rude and cruel, blasphemous an sacrilegious.Indeed, this movie deserves scathing comments from deeply religious people. That's way they can skip this review, and I'm sure this movie has not been made for them.

As for the rest of you, young, unbiased and open-minded, who do not base their world view on stale concepts and narrow-mindedness, I say that this movie is extremely inventive and funny, bears clear moral message and has half-a-dozen excellent actors' performances. It is a fairytale for adults that will make you smile and laugh out loud as well as think about your own attitude toward God and his Order on this planet.

Why such an abyssal difference of opinions then? Because Dogma is about things one usually does not make jokes about: the Church, God and heavenly hierarchy. However, it will hardly insult a truly religious (not fanatical) person, for Mr Kevin Smith, the Director, does not for a second doubt the Divine existence, but offers his interpretation in a way of a comics: Bethany, a definite non-believer, is warned by divine messenger that she is the last scion of Jesus and only she can help stop the world from destruction from two fallen angels. On her way she's joined by two prophets (actually, reminding two sexually-frustrated youngsters, one of them hilariously portrayed by K Smith himself), 13th apostle and divine muse (a strip-dancer). They have to withstand assaults of demons and other scum. Why God can't intervene and save the world? Watch and find out!

In short, it has been the most original and entertaining movie of its kind that I have seen in 2 years. And it has not altered my beliefs an ounce!

Summary: I wish Amazon offered a ZERO STARS option
Review: This movie gives new meaning to the term "religion bashing." Yes, I'm Catholic, and I suppose I don't have an "open mind" since these days that means having no real firmly-held principles. So I will risk being labeled "unhip", "closed-minded" and "a fanatic" by all the "open minded" liberals who have no problem condemning everyone who disagrees with them. So here goes: Are we really at the point in human history where we have decided that it is acceptable to ridicule religion in the name of having a few laughs? In a time of "tolerance" for others, isn't it time to start "tolerating" Christianity and giving it the respect we afford to other philosophies? Do we really need a movie that ridicules Jesus' mother, depicts one of his "descended" family members working in an abortion clinic, and gleefully trashes the Catholic church from beginnig to end? I don't understand why so many people today feel smug and superior trashing "organized religion" while following the "philosophies" of self-absorbed nihilists like a bunch of braindead lemmings. It's ok to quote John Lennon or Kurt Cobain -- or Kevin Smith -- in this modern age, but a quotation from the Bible will win you a dirty look and a cruel insult. "Dogma" is the flagship film for this very closed-minded era where everyone creates "his or her own God" while laughing at the tenets of faith that have been revered for centuries. As C.S. Lewis once said "we are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mudpies in the slums because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a vacation at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." Don't be an ignorant child --- this film is the ultimate mudpie in the slums!

Summary: WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS DVD?!?!?!
Review: It has been delayed for months. Viewaskew.com and other websites are treating detail as if it is a matter of national security! What is going on!?!?! If you know why the hell this DVD is being delayed please write me at Whereisdogma@aol.com > this is getting silly.

Summary: completely missed the mark
Review: I was very excited to see this movie. I liked Clerks and Chasing Amy a lot. I think people just like this movie because it is from this hip new director but if you took Kevin Smith's name off of the box I don't think this movie would have very many fans. This movie didn't strike me as controversial or thought provoking. It also wasn't funny or entertaining. I was bored. Kevin Smith's characters are constantly explaining the plot to you through the whole movie. My english teacher always told me to show, not tell. Apparantly Kevin Smith never learned this rule. And on a side note, I know Chris Rock seems like a really funny guy, but is he ever funny in anything?

Summary: DOGMA - a great flick
Review: The first time I saw DOGMA, I thouroughly enjoyed it; but didn't quite understand it all. Not being raised in the Catholic church, I was at a slight disadvantage with the angels, saints, etc. The second time I watched it, I was hooked! It is a great movie with a lesson as well. Not only does it poke fun of organized religion and all the trappings that go with it; but it also makes one think in the process. It makes you think about what people have interpreted as God's word and that really maybe He was just having fun when He created us. Maybe we need to chill and enjoy! The basis of the story is that two fallen angels have found a loop hole to return to heaven. However, this will destroy all existence as it will find God fallible. So, with God missing in action, the heavenly hosts take on the job of trying to stop them. This is done by contacting the last Zion, a reluctant distant relative of Jesus, and along with the help of some pretty raunchy prophets, a newly discovered 13th apostle, and a muse, the group finally gets headed in the right direction. It is a must see and a most likely will buy movie! ENJOY!

Summary: Hats Off to Kevin Smith!
Review: From absolute start to finish, one of THE funniest modern-daymovies I've seen yet! Excellent typecasting (Alan Rickman strikes thebalance between angelhood and everyday-pain-in-the-rear anxiety-riddenfolkdom), funnier than oh-my-gawd deliveries, Superb dialogues (andmonologues; check out Matt & Ben's delivery in the corporateboardroom!);all in all, a MUST BUY. I agree with the other reviewers;you can't just simply rent this; you have to BUY IT! Oh, BTW -excellent soundtrack; buy that, too!
