Summary: An odd Role for Cox
Review: One the back roads of Vermont near the US-Canadian border, a battle of wits is being fought. The men at the Highway Patrol Post at small boarder town and fighting to keep their jobs off the fanatical chopping block. And the local cops aren't gonna make it easy for them. If the HP gets shut down, then the local cops get a bigger budget.

Sounds dramatic doesn't, well the men of Broken Lizard took the opposite route and made it a fowl mouth cop comedy.

The actor that played Hannibal Lector in the unheard of Michael Mann movie Manhunter and start in other movies, such as X-Men 2 tirelessly tries to stem the high school pranks his troopers play on each other, and on the drivers they pull over.

Things get even tough when the local cops find a dead woman and several kilos of dope founded by the HP. Brain Cox's opens the hand of cooperation, but the local cops give him the finger. 'Why should we work together, you'll be shut down in a week?' The HP needs to find a clever way of getting the Governor's attention and not make fools of themselves.

Review: I heard this movie was stupid but when my friends rented it I ran out and bought it because I loved it. Farvra's trip to the fast food restraunt is the best part why can't you get a litre of cola anyways and Farvra's treatment of Rabit is so funny Farvra is the funniest cop in this but the rest of the cops are right behind him with their crazy antics you have to see this movie it is worth it

Summary: Top 10 greatest movies of all time!!!
Review: This has made the top ten greatest movies of all time....(well..that ive seen)..its up there with Scarface and The Godfather, which is sayin somethin. Obviously, the people who rated this movie have no sense of humor. There are so many funny parts in the movie...the stoner kids, the you boys like mexico part(the people who didnt like this movie probably didnt get it...think about it...theyre almost at the border of canada...), the shenanigan scene, just to name a few. I dont know how anyone can not find this movie funny, because if they dont laugh throughtout this entire movie, they have something seriously wrong with them.

Summary: But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun
Review: When I saw the trailer for this film, I thought it was another inane sophomoric waste of time. How could I, pontifex maximus of the holy imperial priesthood of self-ordained movie critics, ever stoop to watch this movie?

My first viewing largely confirmed my original suspicion--it was an inane sophomoric piece, but I didn't feel like I wasted my time. The opening sequence is devastatingly funny, and there are enough clever antics to keep one interested. Yet it is only after repeated viewings that this movie grows on you.

Admittedly, this isn't for everyone. I suppose if one enjoyed watching Oprah and found Pretty Woman to be the epitome of filmmaking, then no, that person would not enjoy Super Troopers. If the uniformity and the sterility of suburbia have left your mind fit only for the cute and the maudlin of Hollywood, look elsewhere.

On the other hand, there are those who deride this movie as being of inferior quality. Poor plot, etc. I am a die-hard Monty Python fan, but I wouldn't consider the Holy Grail to be "High Art" in a strictly cinematic sense. It too is a loosely strung together series of skits, and "character development" is seriously lacking. Although not as brilliant as Monty Python, Broken Lizard is nevertheless a clever, entertaining group. This isn't great art, but that wasn't their intent either. Similarly, if one is too wrapped up in the insularity of the self-righteous high-brow, then he should look elsewhere.

Is Super Troopers a "Great" movie in the cannonical sense? No. But it is a damn entertaining one, especially if you still have the lively, irreverant spirit of youth. Inane and sophomoric? You betcha. But this one has enough wit and warmth to put it at the top of its class. Heartily recommended for what it's worth.

Summary: A WASTE OF 3 BUCKS.
Review: I rented this movie last night because I had heard such great things about it. Never before has the old saying "don't believe what you hear and only half of what you see" been so true. I wanted to like this movie, but at best all I can say is that it's funny in spaces and then only mildly. It never made me laugh out loud the way the original king of cop comedies "Police Academy"(forget the sequels, I'm talking about the original movie here now) did in 1984. Bottom line, "Super Troopers" had potential but never lives up to it.

Summary: It's delicious!
Review: This is probably the funniest movie that I've seen in the last few years. I started watching it on cable with very low expectations, and I found myself laughing non-stop for the next hour and a half.

Basically the movie follows the antics of 5 Vermont state troopers who enjoy playing pranks on motorists, each other, and their arch-rivals, the local police. There is a loose plot having to do with a cache of drugs, and a sweet romantic sub-plot as well, but all these elements really take a back seat to the clever and good-natured humor.

One of the highlights for me is the opening sequence in which the troopers pull over and mess around with 3 stoner kids. After pulling them over, they take off without warning and then back up and order them to pull over again. The frightened and drugged-out kids don't know what to do since they're already pulled over. Probably the funniest section of the movie has to do with Officer Farva, the fat, belligerent black sheep of the Super Trooper family. Once he gets the opportunity to walk the beat after being banned, he immediately goes on a trail of terror that begins with his cruel and crude version of a Super Trooper prank and ends with him in jail in a homage to First Blood's delousing scene. It's a truly great comic performance.

I'm surprised that this movie is so polarizing, with a number of 1-star reviews peppered among all the raves. The comparisons to Police Academy seem totally off-base to me. Police Academy is filled with juvenile, obvious, ham-fisted gags, while Super Troopers humor is more diverse and effective. There's clever dialogue, gross-out humor, and physical comedy, and it all works really well. The criticisms that the plot is weak seem kind of pointless to me. Many great comedies don't have strong narratives (eg. Monty Python's movies, the Farrelly Bros' movies). It's really more of a question of whether the movie offers the laughs and quickly, and Super Trooper definitely delivers the goods in this area.

Summary: Close, but not quite.
Review: I bought this DVD after missing the movie in theaters. The previews I saw made it look like one incredibly funny movie, so I was more than happy to shell out the money for it. And I'm the type of person that is easily amused by most comedies. The movie definitely has it's funny moments, and the Broken Lizard guys certainly have potential, but overall it fails to satisfy. I never found myself laughing uncontrollably during this movie, and a lot of times just wondered what the heck was going on. I watched the movie three times before watching it with the directors commentary. With the cast/crew commentary, you start to understand that many of the parts of the movie are based on inside jokes from their college days that didn't really translate well to a wide audience. It made a bit more sense at that point, but the second rule of comedy is if the joke has to be explained, it's not funny. Since this is a drug comedy, I guess it also violates the third rule of comdey: If you have to be high to think it's funny, it's not funny. Given the amount of drug comedies out there like the Cheech and Chong movies, Half Baked, and even Dazed and Confused, this one fails to be as funny as any of them. To be honest, most Adam Sandler films are far funnier than this, and that's pretty bad.

With that being said, I'd definitely keep an eye out for the Broken Lizard guys in the future. These guys aren't quite the "not ready for prime-time" players that the original SNL cast were, but with honed comedic skills they could do a lot better than the [stuff] that goes for comedy out there now. Unfortunately that [stuff] includes this film as well.
