Summary: Brooks' Funniest, Eclipses All Others
Review: I recently sat down to view several of the Mel Brooks comedies, including this one, "Young Frankenstein." While films like "Blazing Saddles" and "History of the World" are already showing their age, losing a lot of their original appeal, this one will no doubt endure. Quite simply, "Young Frankenstein" is Brooks' very best because it is his most mature, controlled work. The laughs are not obvious, but grounded in parody of the original "Frankenstein" movies as well as keen insight into our own fascination with monsters. Watching this, it was as fresh and witty as was back in 1974. The same can't be said, unfortunately, for all the other Mel Brooks films. If you own only one Mel Brooks video, I hope it's this one... the one that will endure.

Summary: What knockers!
Review: Quite possibly the most consistently funny comedy ever made. Mel Brooks is at his best here, and the screenplay (co-written by Gene Wilder) gives a great cast great material. Nearly every gag, visual as well as verbal, works perfectly. The DVD extras complement the film nicely - very interesting to hear Mel Brooks' commentary, and the deleted scenes and outtakes, as well as the documentary, provide another insight into the creative process.

Summary: Outstanding Mel Brooks Classic Comedy
Review: I have seen the original YF in the theater, on VHS Video, on PPV TV, and now on DVD from Warner Bros. This DVD edition, complete with background interviews, outtakes, and commentary is outstanding in every aspect. Sadly they have not remastered the sound as the original was recorded in mono/hifi, but enjoyable nonetheless. The background information gleaned thru interviews with Gene Wilder and other cast members provided fascinating insights into how the movie version came into being. This is a "do not miss" classic for fans of Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, and of course Madelaine Kahn.

Summary: A quality assemblage of extras for a great movie
Review: Young Frankenstein is a classic. A must-see for comedy fans. The DVD format yeilds two distinct advantages: awesome video quality, and extra content. The georgeous black and white feel of the movie really comes through on DVD. Crisp, clear, with excellent contrast. The extra content is icing on the cake. There are deleted scenes, which clear up many of the unanswered questions from the movie. There is a wonderful 36 minute documentary on the making of the movie. There are several trailers and some interviews with the stars. And there are numerous bloopers.

The only thing that isn't in it (and I wish it was)is a director's commentary. Commentary from Mel Brooks would likely be as funny as the movie itself.

Summary: "Walk this way"
Review: This is great! Perfect anamorphic video. Lots of extras. Every DVD should be as good as this one. Buy this disk! My daughter (age=12) loves this movie. I (age=50) love this movie. Mel Brooks is a terrific director. This is a movie to watch again and again to see the homages paid to other great flicks. The "I'll take the one in the turban" is pure Marx Brothers.

Summary: In a word... WOW!
Review: One of Mel Brooks' best films has been brought to life once again, along with a host of wonderful extras. The film transfer is beautiful and the documentary, deleted scenes, and outtakes are icing on an already delectable cake. This is a must have DVD for any Brooks fan!

Summary: Mel Brooks at his absolute best!!!
Review: Have watched all of Brooks' films and this one by far is the funniest..Brooks put together an all star cast that are at their peak. The cameo appearance of Gene Hackman as the blind man with Peter Boyle as the monster is a true "classic." Even if you are not a Mel Brooks fan..don't miss this one!!!

Summary: Excellent conversion
Review: This is an excellent conversion of an excellent class comedy. Absolutely loads of extras have been packed into this RDSL disc including documentaries, interviews, commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes and stills and of course a good print of the movie itself!

My only quibble is with the bizarre case that makes it very hard to take the disc out!

Summary: comic masterpiece
Review: Young Frankenstein is with out a doubt the defining Mel Brooks movie. While not as slapstick funny as Blazing Saddles, and (thankfully) not as silly as History of the World, Mel Brooks takes the essence of the original Frankenstein movies and turns on the comic genius. The result of this gunius is one of the best movies of all times. The one liners and sight gags are of textbook quality and not at all predictible, and they continue all the way through to the end. There are just too many good ones to try to list them here. The use of historic sets, and the black and white format add significantly to the enjoyment of the story. Also of note is the all-star cast: Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Terri Garr, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman, Gene Hackman and a host of others. The combination of the great story, superb cast, and classic Mel Brooks comedy, make this one of my top five movies of all time.
