Summary: One of Mel Brooks' best
Review: As far as Mel Brooks films goes, this is one of his best, maybe only surpassed by "Blazing Saddles". Unfortunately, Mr. Brooks lost his touch over the years and his movies showed it, getting worse and worse with each release. His older movies tend to be his best.

Gene Wilder plays Dr. Friedrich von Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein. Friedrich, now living in the U.S., travels to his now-deceased grandfather's European castle. It is there where he feels trapped by his grandfather's legacy and possibly his own destiny to continue his monstrous work. From then on, it's pure comedy.

Summary: I was disappointed.
Review: After reading the wonderful reviews for this movie and having seen such brilliant Brooks' spoofs as SPACEBALLS, BLAZING SADDLES, and HISTORY OF THE WORLD, I was expecting to be laughing almost constantly. Maybe it's just me, but I hardly laughed at all. Most of the jokes in this one just weren't that funny. Maybe it's the fact that I've never seen any of the Frankenstein movie and so I didn't catch most of the parody. Plus, I was expecting a little more slapstick.

The acting, though, was brilliant. Gene Wilder as young Dr. Frankenstein (he now pronounces it FRAHNK-en-steen to separate himself from his grandfather), Teri Garr as his assistant Inga, and Marty Feldman as Igor (Eye-gore) were spectacular. The interaction between these three main characters were what made the movie entertaining. The supporting cast was brilliant, too. I got the impression, though, that these were the characters that provided a lot of the jokes that seemed to be missing.

On another note, I thought the use of black and white film was very effective in setting the mood and getting the viewer into the right frame of mind.

All in all, I enjoyed watching this movie, but not nearly as much as a lot of his other stuff. If you want a good Brooks film that's a little less dated, try SPACEBALLS.

Summary: Put....the candle....back!
Review: This is a DVD that doesn't disappoint. The audio and video are wonderfully restored. The audio commentary and "making of" documentary are excellent. And the outtakes are fun, albeit few.

The icing on the cake are the deleted scenes. Each deleted scene (I believe there are 7 or so) is farely long and could easily have been left in the film.

DVD makers, take note! This is the type of DVD we want to own!

And of course, this is one of the funniest films of all time.

Summary: "Pardon me boy, is this the transylvnia station?"
Review: Writer\Director Mel Brooks created what many feel is one of the funniest movies ever made. Gene Wilder and himself wrote a screenplay that is filled with many memeorable lines that to this day still remain funny. That's the sign of any good movie, whether it's a comedy or drama. If, after 20 or 25 years a movie can still make you laugh and still seem fresh, it truly is a classic. Dr. Friedrich Von Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) is sent to transylvania where he has inherited his grandfather's castle. But he must leave behind the one woman he loves, the only problem is he can't touch her,Elizabeth (Played by the "late" Madeline Kahn). Once in transylvania he meets enough oddballs to keep you laughing for nearly two hours, like his new assisant, Igor, "My grandfather use to work for your grandfather. Of course the rates have gone up." Then there's Inga (Terri Garr) whom Wilder needs to "elevate" him. But, none of this can be complete without Frau Blucher ( did anyone hear horses in the background?). The odd thing about her of course is, she likes the walk around a dark castle with a candle holder that isn't lit. And when the townspeople are afraid that Wilder is continuing his grandfather's work, they send for Inspector Klemp (Played perfectly by Kenneth Mars) and only has one arm that actually works. Now you can't have a "Frankenstein" story without the "Monster" (Peter Boyle) who is up to date with all of Irving Berlin's music (Puttin' On The Ritz). Never before, with the exception on "Blazing Saddles" and "The Producers" and such a bunch of odd characters ever been put into one film! It really goes to show one what kind of comedy genius Mel Brooks is! This is a movie everyone can watch and have a smile put on their face and almost die of laughter. It's a perfect movie to start your collection of Brooks films with and also a perfect example on what a comedy is suppose to be like. And always remember, never let a blindman( Gene Hackman) lite your cigar. Sheer perfection!

Summary: Seda-give???
Review: Great, funny, classic, AND classy comedy. Buy it for the humor and homage to Frankenstein, the wonderful performances(esp. Wilder's), and the visuals. As for the DVD, the outtakes are rather short and dissapointing. That famous scene where Marty Feldman cracks up Wilder, Garr, and Kahn at the castle took almost 10 hilarious takes, yet only a few make it into the outtakes reel. Fortunately the 36 min. documentary includes a bit on that scene and is very good overall. The commentary is very good despite what i read from other reviewers. Mel informs, pays compliments, cracks jokes, reminisces, and explains throughout which makes for a good and interesting commentary. The deleted scenes are also wonderful. The other extras are ok, take it or leave it type stuff. Overall, great movie, nice transfer, good extras(outtakes could've been better). Buy it.

Summary: A must have DVD
Review: This is one of the best comedies of all time. The DVD is a must have. It's the kind of movie that you put on to show a specific scene to a friend and wind up watching the rest of the movie, constantly saying "this is a great scene". Mel Brooks does a great commentary.

Summary: Young Frankenstein
Review: If you love Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman together in their usual crazy duo, then this is a definite buy.Gene and Marty toether create one of the greatest comedy forces there was.Mixing two completely oppostie genres that is horror and comedy seemed imposible but it is cleverly scripted and you are frightened and laugh at the same time most of the movie. In two words "an absolute scream".

Summary: Tonight Only Dr. F. Frankenstein Presents The Creature
Review: For fans of Horror and Comedy no other movie pays more homage to both genres. Mel Brooks hilarious spoof of Frankenstein is undoubtedly one of the funniest films ever made. The casting is incredible (especially Marty Feldman as Igor) and the gags will have you rolling in the grave, um, on the floor. With everything from sight gags to overt sexual innuendo (both Brooks trademarks) this comedy will have you gasping for breath. The monster on stage doing a dance routine with Dr. F., the lonely blind man (Gene Hackman) who was going to make espresso, the luscious Terri Garr "assisting" whenever she can. I know this is one of my favorite comedies, as well as one of my favorite movies. It's made even better if you watch the 1931 Universal Frankenstein (with Boris Karloff as the monster) before it. For fans of Horror, of Comedy, or just plain old good movies.

Summary: You will laugh until tears form in your eyes.
Review: Superior Comedy treatment of the Frankenstein story by Mel Brooks with Gene Wilder as the young Frankenstein (call him Stein, not Stein) carrying on the family experiments. Great cast which includes Teri Garr and Peter Boyle as the monster, this movie is so funny, a review can not do it justice, you just have to buy and see this for yourself.
