Summary: A Rare Quality of Character
Review: There are few movies that appeal so broadly without pandering to the lowest common denominator. This movie could have been just a silly love story or a tale of two girls' friendship. It could have been preachy or predictable. It could have been a football tale independent of plot. But it is none of those things.

Bend It Like Beckham is funny. It will hit home on some level, and you will laugh - outloud and often. But I found myself very pleasantly surprised as well at the depth and sincerity of the story. It is not just a story of two football playing friends bucking their mothers' desires and falling for the same young man. The conflicts are more honest than that and the movie less simple.

I played soccer for 14 years, with my mother's blessing and simultaneous chagrin (it's difficult to reconcile her little girl being a tough midfielder and a lady as well!). I asked her to come see this movie with me. We both walked out of the theater just grinning, planning to own it on DVD the second it came available. The way in which Jess finds it possible to honor both herself and her family is a RARE quality of character not seen enough in film.

Summary: The Best "UP" movie that I have ever seen.
Review: This is a rare movie that starts brilliantly and has no place to go and goes there anyway and each sequence of the movie surpasses the past sequence with wonderful emotion and fun. The slow motion scenes of the wedding dance circle unrivaled in color and sensitivity brilliance. Other movies can only come up to this level but none will surpass the movies great feelings that it leaves you with at every turn.

Review: Okay, I'm not big on sports, but I absolutely loved this movie. I thought that it might be trying to include too many things in one movie, with culture barriers to vault, sports and competition, and a love story....but I was greatly mistaken and glad to be. This movie was wonderfully done and not only was it a great movie, but it also had great characters, great actors, great costumes, and a great soundtrack! I recommend this for anyone who likes romances, comedy, drama, sports, or all of the above! Don't bother renting it, just buy it! Enjoy!

Summary: Rocky for Girls
Review: "Bend It Like Beckham" has to be one of the most motivating movies that I have seen during the course of my 15-year-old life. This movie was so inspiring and uplifting at the same time! It proved to me that you can do anything that you put your mind to despite obstacles that may stand in your way. Soccer star Brandi Chastain says "....this is a wonderful film that shows how you can remain faithful to your culture and still have athletics as part of your life." Actresses Kiera Knightley and Parminda Nagra were sensational. The two created a frienship even when their completely different ethnicities and cultures threatened their mutual bond for their love of soccer. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is truly the star in this movie. Also known as "Joe", he gives his team players the instruction they need to improve their game and the skills they need to work as a team.He lights up the screen! With soccer matches, weddings, and fights, the 2 girls-"Jess" and "Jules" find a way to make their friendship work!

Summary: Primer to Parminder Nagra
Review: US is introduced to a refreshing rising star of the East in 'Bend it Like Beckham.' She will be a regular this Fall on US TV's 'ER,' but here she is 'herself' and portrays realistically, the teen angst of being between two worlds - the ancestral values of India and being a typical teen who wants to 'fit in' in UK! My American friends wondered if the like of an Indian emigree was really as portrayed in the movie? Yes, it is!

Summary: Simply Wonderful
Review: This movie is one of the best "feel-good" movies I've ever seen. It lifts your spirit and lets you leave the theatre feeling excited and gives you hope about your dreams. It has humor, romance, and a little drama. A great film!

Summary: BLOODY BRILLIANT!
Review: I absolutely LOVED this movie!!! At first I though it would be kinda cheesy, and I was planning to go and see Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, but opted to go and see BILB with my mom instead. And, since then I have been hooked! I even went and saw it 2 more times with my friends! I wish I had seen it sooner, b/c I saw it the last week it was playing at my closest theatre. :(
The story starts out with a girl named Jess Bhamra (played by charming actress Parminder Nagra), of Indian descent, living in England with her[nasty], fashion-obsessed sister, Pinky (Archie Punjabi), and her strict, Sikh parents (Bollywood actor,Anupum Kher, and Shaheen Khan) who would love to see their daughter cooking delicious "aloo gobi" and "chapaties", instead of kicking [rear]on the football (soccer) field and following in the footsteps of her idol, English soccer star, David Beckham.
After becoming best friends with Jules (Keira Knightley), who is also struggling to follow her dream of becoming a professional soccer player, Jess secretly joins the Hounslow Harriers, soccer team and impresses the HOT Irish captain, Joe (played by GORGEOUS actor, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers). Jess and Jules become best friends, for Jules also has a mother who would rather see her daughter go shopping and chase boys, than play "football". In the midst of achieving her dream, Jess learns to overcome the obstacles of her Indian life at home with her paranoid parents and her sister's upcoming wedding. Along with that, a love triangle evolves between Jess, Jules and Joe, which can only complicate things even more.
This movie is filled with action, drama, comedy, romance and everything every great film must have. And the bonus is, ladies, that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who plays the handsome Joe, is HOT! :)

Summary: Charming, Good-natured, Laugh-Out-Loud Comedy
Review: Jess (Parminder Nagra) has just finished high school and dreams of being a professional soccer player, but her parents see law school in her future instead. Jess' Indian immigrant parents see no future in her soccer skills. Her Mother (Shaheen Khan) finds soccer an unsuitable activity for a young woman, and her father (Anupam Kher) believes there is too much risk of disappointment. But British-born Jess is more hopeful and joins a local women's soccer team behind her parents' backs. With the help of her considerably less athletic sister, Pinky (Archie Panjabi), and her teammate and new best friend, Jules (Keira Knightley), Jess is able to keep all knowledge of her soccer playing from her parents for a while. But when her Father discovers her deception and her championship game falls on the day of her sister's wedding, family obligations and traditions seem to stand in the way of Jess' personal goals and aspirations.

"Bend It Like Beckham" is the latest in a string of impressive films to come out of Great Britain in the last few years that explore the everyday lives of Indian immigrant families as they try to retain their traditions while assimilating into a new culture. Not surprisingly, "Bend It Like Beckham" is the most successful of these films thus far, because it is the most comical and accessible. "Beckham"'s themes are universal: The goals of the younger generation clash with those of their parents; A woman tries to succeed at something normally reserved for men. "Beckham" is a laugh-out-loud comedy that pokes good-natured fun at both Indian and Western hang-ups and the collisions that sometimes occur between them. The film treats all of its characters sympathetically and manages to inspire the audience to root for Jess without making her parents out to be bad guys. The basic plot of "Bend It Like Beckham" is an old tried-and-true one, and the story does lapse into cliche in places. But "Bend It Like Beckham" is a sweet, enjoyable and very funny film. It's perfect if you're looking for a some light-hearted fun at the movies.

Summary: BEST MOVIE EVER!
Review: I first saw this movie between two of my soccer games during a soccer tournament. It was the best movie ever!!! I was quite lucky to see it since there was a local theater nearby. It left that theater and later came back to another local theater and I went back as soon as I heard it was back! This is a great comedy for the whole family and has some dramatic moments as well which balance the movie perfectly! I can't wait to get my own copy! If you haven't seen it yet, you better!

Review: This movies was absoulty the best that i have ever seen. This truly showed that if you want something, you can get it if you apply yourself. All of the teammates believed in Jess, and she achieved. Also this movie was awesome because the coach Jonathan Rhys Meyers is really hot! GO and see it!
