Rating: Summary: WITTY, SLAM-BANG DIALOGUE BETWEEN TWO SCREEN GEMS Review: John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara - I don't believe there's ever been another screen couple who can make the verbal, and romantic, sparks fly the way they do. Of all the movies I've owned over 18 years ofcollecting, none makes me laugh-out-loud as much as this one, even on repeated viewings. The dialogue crackles with testy good-humor, and the cast of supporting characters (Chill Wills, Edgar Buchanan) adds immensely to the fun. Sour note - this film absolutely screams out for a letterboxed or enhanced for 16:9 widescreen version. There are WAY TOO MANY characters missing in the poor pan and scan framing, "barely there" profile shots, characters talking to an off-screen presence. Also, the extremely poor DVD quality actually detracts from enjoyment of this fun film. It looks like a 3rd or 4th generation tape transfer. A sad way to treat such a popular film. Summary: Content - 5 stars, transfer quality - 1 star.
Rating: Summary: Great movie - miserable copy - fuzzy and not wide screen. Review: A very good slapstick western for John Wayne fans. Moves quickly with lots of action. Unfortunately, this DVD is as poor in quality as the Good Times VHS version. It is not the Wayne estate authorized version - which is much better.
Rating: Summary: Great western comedy on VHS,poor transfer from VHS to DVD. Review: Great comedy scenes that you wouldn't expect from Wayne. Compares greatly with "The Quiet Man". Recommend highly with one exception, DVD release is poorly made.
Rating: Summary: Delightfully funny, pure enjoyment for all, real classic, Review: You'll view this one over and over. Pseudo slap stick comedy with a Western touch.Check out the large stellar cast - each making a great contribution. Sparks fly in the Wayne/O'Hara combo in a hilarious way. Something for everyone - This however is not a total lightweight - Indian issues, divorce and early settlers issues portrayed with sensitivity. A video you'll want to share with others. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: Terrible film transfer! Review: I agree with the previous reviewer, this absolutely has to be the worst transfer I've ever seen. The picture goes out of focus several times during the film. It was done from a bad print in the first place. I love the movie itself, but don't waste your money on this dvd version.... you WON'T be happy if you do.
Rating: Summary: John Wayne at his best and just being himself taboot. Review: Mud slinging, woman humiliating, fun! Wayne and O'Hara bring in all in this '63 thriller. It must be one of the top 25 "guy movies" of all time. Cattle baron, John Wayne and his bratty wife Maureen O'Hara (who we all know just needs a good spanking) star in this blast from America's past. G.W. (John Wayne) is in desparate straights to save his marriage and can't figure out how to do it. He takes the cue from his soon-to-be son in law who takes the Mclintock's daughter over his knee to show her the error of her ways. "You would have had me shot in cold blood, yelling I insulted you and all. What you need is a good spanking." That's exactly what she gets too, with even some help from G.W. After much good, clean, western fun Mrs. Mclintock is taken to the barn by her husband in the end, who realizes this is the only way to break his wife's stubborn will. I give it the thumbs up to any Wayne/western enthusiast, but "feminazis" don't waste your time.
Rating: Summary: The DVD is terrible! Review: The DVD version of this movie is awful. The picture is fuzzy, the sound is bad, it's not in widescreen, and you miss a lot of the movie.I would not waste your money on the movie, only watch it if it's free! It's a shame too, the movie it self is a great movie.
Rating: Summary: GREAT LIGHT COMEDY Review: MCLINTOCK IS ONE OF JOHNS WAYNE LIGHTER MOVIES. MANY OF THE CHARACTER ACTORS WE HAVE SEEN IN OTHER WAYNE MOVIES MAKE AN APPEARANCE. THEY PROVIDE FOR A FUN COMEDY WESTERN. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE AS AN ADDITION TO ANY JOHN WAYNE FILM LIBRARY.
Rating: Summary: John Wayne's comical best! The DVD is another story. Review: I am quite intrigued at the popularity that "McLintock!" still has among John Wayne fans and everyone else, in general. This is a very funny story with the Duke and Maureen O'Hara as a bickering couple in a "Taming of the Shrew" story set in the good ol' west. It's one of John Wayne's more comical and lighter-toned films. I have the DVD version of this film, and I have the same opinion like the rest of you; it's quite a sloppy job. Some of the film looks all right; it's nice and sharp at times. You can tell the film is very dated and at times the image becomes blurry and distorted. I can't understand what's been done to such a good film. There have been so many complaints about this inferior release. Something needs to be done. A major movie studio should try to purchase the rights to this film and give "McLintock!" top feeding. Think of how this would sound. Double sided disc A: 2:35:1 Widescreen and B: 1:33:1 Standard: Modified to fit screen (but better pan and scan). Picture quality could have sharp clean frames, vibrant, true-to-life eye-popping colors making you want to be there. Audio: (1) English Dolby Digital Remixed and Remastered 5.1 Stereo Surround (2) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo (could be commentary) (3) Spanish (4) French (5) German. Subtitles: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Dutch, Chinese, Thai. You could have it loaded with special features. How's that sound for a top notch DVD? Someday, that could happen. For now, we're stuck with this mediocre DVD release. An enjoyable film it is, still.
