Summary: The best film of Don Knotts' brief film career
Review: An entertainingly funny movie starring one of the most underrated acting talents of all time. This was one of the many low-budget comedies produced in Hollywood in the mid-sixties, but it ranks up there among the best. The screenplay and the role seem tailor-made for Knotts.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: "10.....9.......1....Blastoff!!!"
Review: Attaboy Luther!! It's about time Knotts came to DVD. Let's just hope they're all in widescreen!! Funnier than anything made today....

Summary: SPACE HICK
Review: Attendant at childrens amusement park gets job at NASA: JANITOR. Lets family and townsfolk believe hes been tapped for spaceman training. After embarassing kin who come to visit, he gets himself locked in shuttle and must perform those experiments, then return to Earth like real spaceman. Becomes local hero. Rather sickening. Here and there stupidly funny (that is if you're alone, and no one knows you're watching!).

Summary: Classic Don Knotts
Review: Great movie. This is for all fans of Barney Fife and Don's previous films like Ghost and Mr. Chicken. My favorite part is when Don comes back home after some training at NASA and he is at home with friends and family who are congratulating him. A little kid is the only one in the room who isn't buying Don's astronaut exploits. He grills Don about certain specifics and the rest is classic. PHONY!

Summary: A Hilarious Cold-War Period Piece
Review: I read Mr. Maltin's brief review and was astonished that somebody who is in the business of reviewing films could so easily write this movie off. This film is hilarious; it has an innocence that we don't see much anymore. Don Knotts was a comedic genius, I'd without hesitation put him on a par with Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, Jim Carey. He plays the nerdly goofball brilliantly, and we can all see a bit of ourselves in his various awkward moments. This movie skillfully mocks the Cold War tension with it's parody of the Space Race, and there's even a little romance as Don lusts for a beauty who barely acknowledges his existence until she hears that he's going to be an astronaut. The soundtrack is great as well, very happy stuff and it reminds me of the old Sunday night Disney show's music.

My wife and I watched this on Septemeber 15, 2001, four days after September 11, 2001. It was exactly the ticket for helping us to forget for a moment the ugliness of the real world.

I've never been very impressed by Mr. Maltin. He gives terse conclusions which are unsubstantiated by specific references. I'm 41 years old and this movie entertained me like few others. Don Knotts is an undervalued classic; my bet is that after he passes away there will be a big revival for his work.

Summary: Peanut butter scene is absolutely hilarious.
Review: I saw "The Reluctant Astronaut" when I was in about the fourth grade on television. There were no VCR's in those days, and I waited and waited and waited for it to come on the tube again. It never did. Now, It's available!!!! I'm a little old for this fare, I would imagine! But I would definitely reccomend this movie for kids, based on how funny I found the movie when I was a kid. Let me just add: the scene where Don Knotts is trying to make a peanut butter on crackers meal is absolutely hilarious; it is one of my favorite movie scenes that I saw as a child. Anyway, I would definitely reccomend this movie for kids.

Summary: I watched this movie more than 30 times, it's great!
Review: I've watched this movie over and over because it's great. It's super funny and has a lot of real stuff like a Real Rocket Sled launch, Centrifuge, and Jet Packs. I'm the webmaster at Yellow Airplane and I know about these things. You will love this film so much that you will watch it time and time again. It's great and the kids will love it too.
