Summary: fun Disney comedy
Review: BLACKBEARD'S GHOST is a fun Disney comedy featuring Peter Ustinov in an hilarious performance as the title character.

The story concerns Steve Walker (Dean Jones) who has just moved to a quaint seaside town in order to coach the college track-team. The town is under the thumb of shady racketeer Silky Seymour (Joby Baker) and his cronies, who intend to buy out some prime land to build a casino.

Steve inadvertently releases the limbo-bound ghost of Blackbeard (Peter Ustinov). In order move on from limbo, Blackbeard must perform one truly good deed. Steve decides that the track-tram needs serious improvement...and Silky's gang needs some too! Fun and hilarity ensues as Blackbeard joins forces with Steve and Jo Anne Baker (Suzanne Pleshette).

Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette offer fine performances as Steve and Jo Anne; Elsa Lanchester is her delightful-best as Emily Stowcraft, one of the old ladies who call themselves the 'Daughters of Blackbeard'!.

Also featuring Elliott Reid, Norman Grabowski, Michael Conrad and Lou Nova.

Summary: One of the great live Disney classic comedies
Review: Blackbeard's Ghost, although not one of the best known Disney live-action movies, is a great movie to own. There is plenty of slapstick comedy to keep this rather unusual plot moving. A great cast also improves the quality of the movie.

Although there are no extras on this DVD, the picture and sound quality are improved over the VHS edition.

Summary: where is the widescreen?
Review: Come on Disney, how do you take such a great movie and dump it like a piece of Junk. The lack of widescreen or quality sound is really sad for a company that makes more money than any other at re-releasing it's old material.
Also no extras? Not even Some outakes, gallery stuff, theatrical trailers. I refuse to buy any of the new disney DVD if they are not in widescreen, and tons of people I know from disney clugs and message boards feel the same way.

Summary: Simply the BEST!
Review: HILARIOUS!!!, OUTSTANDING!!! the FUNNIEST disney EVER!!! you CANNOT go wrong!!! so all those out there who HAVEN'T seen it do NOT get put off by the fact it was made in the 60's!!! Personally in my opinion a lot of the old films are the BEST!!! and (hooray, hooray!) NO KISSING!!! ok fine theres a little bit of love but all disney films have that and the story ISN'T based on heroes falling in love! COMPLETELY ORIGINAL, SIDE-SPLITTLING, HAD ME IN FITS FOR A MONTH!!!...Ok fine maybe I am going a bit overboard but still you get the idea!

Summary: NON-WIDESCREEN DI$NEY MONEY-MAKER
Review: I am so ashamed to be a fan of this film as this release will upset any person who gets it. Disney MUST release a wide-screen version with extras! What's the point of a DVD if not to expereince some extras (even trailer, etc) and widescreen. AVOID AND TEACH DISNEY A LESSON!

Summary: Disney shipwrecks this pirate.
Review: I am so disappointed. I have crystal childhood memories of sitting in a darkened theater as the tale of Blackbeard's Ghost was told. All the silliness and charm of Peter Ustinov, Dean Jones, and the wonderful Suzanne Pleshette are present in this release on DVD, but sadly, Disney has really screwed up on this one. Not only is the film not offered in it's widescreen format, nor are there any interesting extras on the disc (not even the trailer!) but absolutely NO care has been taken in transferring the film to DVD. The picture quality is mediocre at best, with obvious scratches and even frequent instances when a peculiar purple haze passes over the screen. Disney should be embarrassed. Rent it - don't buy it.

Summary: what was disney thinking????
Review: I can`t even think of words that could descibe this awful release. disney has had a great track record for putting out great DVD`s. This ain`t one of them, buyer beware. in fact i would give this a negative 5 stars if this were posible. I pray disney will pay more attention to these films and give them respect and proper treament they deserve!!!

Summary: Pirates are cool!
Review: I don't know why, but this movie never ceases to amuse me. The goofy pirate combined with 1960's Disney humor and Dean Jones just makes this movie so entertaining that you'll watch it over and over again. If you like classic Disney movies as much as I do, you definately need to add this one to your collection.
