Summary: DAY AND GRANT HAVE THE "TOUCH"!
Review: "That Touch of Mink" may not be quite as good as "Pillow Talk" and "Lover Come Back", the Stanley Shapiro scripted comedies that preceeded it, but it's still a delightful comedy romp.

"Mink" was the second biggest moneymaking film of 1962 and the first film to gross more than a million dollars at NYC's Radio City Music Hall. (Eventually it grossed nearly 2 million dollars during it's record breaking run there).

It's glossy and slightly improbable, but the dream pairing of Cary Grant and Doris Day, both masters of sophisticated comedy, smooth over many of the rough edges. They are assisted by a wonderful supporting cast including Gig Young, Audrey Meadows, and John Astin, among others.

Doris is splashed by Cary's limo, which sets up a merry "battle of the sexes" as Cary vigorously pursues Doris, who receives dry advice from roomie Meadows, who works in a New York City automat. The premise is simple but the writing is sharp and often hilarious and the settings are lush and picturesque, as the pair twice go to Bermuda, as well as visit the United Nations, a Yankees game, and a place called Al's Motel!!

The film won a Golden Globe as Best Comedy of the year and that was due, in large part, to the stylish manner in which the cast made the situations come alive.

At 58, Grant is still the master of the suave and sophisticated line. Nobody before or since can inhabit a role like Grant. Day more than holds her own against Grant showing brilliant comic timing, especially in a scene where she becomes inebriated and falls out of a hotel window. Her double takes are classic.

Sure it can be dismissed as "fluff" but it's of such a high quality that it can be enjoyed for what it is. Every film doesn't need to challenge the viewer or be analyzed for some hidden message. "That Touch of Mink" provides a cargo of laughs and that's all it sets out to do. On that level it succeeds admirably!

Summary: A delightful and witty sex comedy
Review: "That Touch of Mink," directed by Delbert Mann, is a delicious 60's sex comedy about the romantic duel between Cathy Timberlake (played by Doris Day), an unemployed working girl with small-town roots, and Philip Shane (Cary Grant), a rich businessman. Along for the ride are Audrey Meadows as Cathy's fiercely protective roommate Connie and Gig Young as Philip's wisecracking employee Roger.

"That Touch" is absolutely hilarious and delightful from start to finish. Day is irresistible--wholesome and innocent, yet feisty. Grant is charming and funny. Meadows and Young get lots of comic mileage out of their marvelous supporting roles.

The film is also a joy to look out. The sets and costumes are marvelous (there's even a fashion show); the screen bursts with color. The script combines witty dialogue, zesty social satire and goofy physical comedy with a cleverly structured plot. There are also some fun cameos by recognizable faces--I won't spoil the fun by revealing them. And it's all nicely complemented by a playful musical score. "That Touch" is one comic battle of the sexes that really holds up after all these years.

Summary: They all know!!
Review: Although Doris Day and Carry Grant insure that this is a fun comedy it is the bevy of other well-known actors that take this to new heights. Audrey Meadows plays the protective big sister type who hears about Mr. Shayne's exploits over the phone. Gig young is Mr. Shayne's go-for and finds out first hand what people and dogs think of him. Don Knotts is a shoe salesman as he is in another Doris day movie [Move Over Darling (1963) ASIN: B00000IBME]. I could go on an on, but you get the idea.

My favorite scene is where she falls out the hotel window and is picked up. She says, " I Fell out of mister Shayne's apartment. See that I'm returned"

Summary: Hard to come by romantic comedy like this nowadays.
Review: Cary Grant and Doris Day at their best in one of the funniest movies of the time. Back in the day when being a working girl was quite a struggle (still is at times!)Day encounters Grant when his limo splashes her new coat on a corner in busy Manhattan. How Rude!! Grant decides to make up for it by sending his top employee to apologize and reimburse her for the outfit. What ensues is a hilarious look at what every girl dreams of and every man fears.......Marriage.

Summary: Classic Cary Grant/Doris Day Combo Good Not Great
Review: Cary Grant and Doris Day made some great movies together. I can't get enough of Pillow Talk or Lover Come Back. That Touch of Mink falls a little short of that mark. While it's as charming, it's just not as funny. I own several of the movies the two did together, and I find that I don't watch That Touch of Mink as much as I thought I would. If you're a fan of classic comedies, this is nice one to add to your collection. Just don't start your collection with it.

Summary: Entertaining
Review: Cary Grant is certainly not at his best here but it's really not his fault. This is just another one of those dime a dozen romantic comedies with a mediocre script. Doris Day seems a little mature for her goody two shoe performance, but again that's the script. I do enjoy this movie though despite itself, especially later on with Cary Grant running out of the shower to catch up with Doris Day and her sleazy date. He doesn't look bad in a towel eighter. This is no "north by northwest" but if u like classic comedies this will do.

Summary: Absolutely dismal quality DVD!
Review: Do not buy this DVD if you have a big TV! On my 65" if I zoom the picture to fill up the screen it becomes so fuzzy that cannot be watched!
Pity, I love this movie.

Summary: cute romantic comedy
Review: Doris Day and Cary Grant make for an unusual romantic couple in the comedy THAT TOUCH OF MINK.

Cathy Timberlake (Doris Day) is an out-of-work country girl in the big city, when she is soaked with water after Philip Shayne's (Cary Grant) car passes her.

Soon, an unlikely courtship ensues, while Cathy is too shy of being alone with him, and he is too amorous.

Cute romantic comedy also stars Audrey Meadows (who has the funniest lines) and Gig Young.
