Summary: I rate it five stars because of the cast
Review:
Maybe not a great movie, but certainly a funny one. I thought it was great. It is about two codgers who fling insults and dirty tricks at each other, until they reconcile--partly because of Ann Margret's influence on them, and partly because a heart attack makes them realize that they are really dependent on each other's friendship.

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are great together as a comedy team, and Anne Margret is as good in this one as she was in The Villain, with Kirk Douglas. They should be so lucky as to have such a dish fall for them, at their age. No wonder Lemmon had the heart attack!

Anyway, you'll love this film! Get it.

Summary: Lemmon and Matthau are back!
Review: Although put off by the title, I am very glad I watched this as I was pleasantly surprised by its overall quality. The screenplay is at once very funny and touching, telling with tongue in cheek the good things and the bad things about being old. To remind us that age is only comparative, one of the old men's fathers is also here, played hilariously by Batman's Burgess Meredith. He shows the two younger 'old men' that there is still lots of fun to be had and perhaps lots of years left if you're lucky. The chemistry between Lemmon and Matthau hasn't faded over the years, and they still work off each other well. As someone who has been to Minnesota in wintertime I could almost feel the cold biting through those poor guys' clothes as they went ice fishing. The delightful Ann-Margret (does she never look older?) is excellent casting as someone who could at once be near enough Lemmon's age to have a relationship with him and also look young enough to be a seemingly unattainable object of his lust. A light Alan Silvestri score complements the broad comedy perfectly.

Summary: Great films - expensive customs
Review: Amazon was the only place I found those films. Amazon sent the films to Sweden with a decleration upon package total cost 37$. I had to pay about 10$ extra for customs fees (customs even charged postal fees!!!). I shall never more order films from the US. (Unless I can find a ways to go round customs). Amazon was great and quick delivery - Swedish customs fees for private import SUCKS.

Summary: Grumpy Old Men leaves you feeling anything but grumpy!
Review: Being a thirty-something woman, I thought, how could I possibly find a movie about two grumpy old men funny? Turns out, VERY EASILY! If I could give this movie TEN STARS, I would! This has to be my all-time, favorite comedy. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are at it again; creating that perfect "odd-couple" chemistry. This time, the story is set in snowy Minnesota, with Lemmon and Matthau, (two old-time rivals), competing for the attentions of the refreshingly eccentric, yet extremely attractive widow, who has just moved into their neighborhood. The writing in this film is excellent; the actor's comedic timing is pure genius, and the zingers never seem to stop! This movie is a classic! Don't be a putz - buy it today!

Summary: A collection of 2 good movies on 2 bad DVDs. What a record!
Review: Both films are funny = two classic funny guys doing what they do best. Making us laugh. Great films that deserve a good treatment.

The DVDs= barebones editions with a horrible full-framing problem. They've cut off so much of the film that I felt like I was listening more than watching. It's HORRIBLE. I'd skip this DVD and get something else.

Wait til decent DVDs comes out for these two wonderful films. The FULL FRAME (choppy) barebones edition is not worth your time unless you like to be frustrated.

Summary: Great Grumpy Old Odd Couple
Review: Both of these "Grumpy Old Men" movies showcase two acting veterans at their best.Lemmon and Matthau have never been funnier in these two very enjoyable films....they will make you forget the major dissapoinment of The Odd Couple 2....It's too bad that we will never enjoy a third enstallment of these grumpy guys, but what a legacy of work they both have separate and together that we can enjoy over and over again.....

Summary: Training films
Review: Do you think grumpy is natural? Think again. Learn from the experts, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. They really make an odd couple " Odd Couple II, The - Neil Simon's (1998) ASIN: 6305127700." The box set is perfect for long nights when you just got to keep going after the first film. This will look good on your video storage wall. And you only pay for shipping once.

Summary: Grumpy Young Reviewer
Review: Grumpy Old Men is probably one of the best movies of both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and the DVD for this funny, delightful movie should also be available in the original aspect ratio in wide-screen not just in the edited full-screen. There are movies that are really bad that have wide-screen DVDs but a great movie like this doesn't and that's just not right! The 1 star is for the crummy DVD not the movie!
