Summary: Quirky and entertaining
Review: Originally I tuned into DLM because it was summer and there was nothing else on, and in the beginning it was just that: a pretty decent show for the summer. However, as the season progressed I thought that the characters were fleshed out better (you learn more about the supporting cast's past) and there was even a storyline (rather than each episode being independent).Anyways, why four stars? Because it's entertaining, full of dry humor and the characters are human and imperfect...which makes it better then 95% of the shows out there.

Review: Reading some of the below reviews makes me wonder how blind people are to the depth of DLM. It's an amazing show, and the only show I've ever been interested enough in to watch every week. Stereotypical characters? -- Everyone in the world follows a stereotype. The quality of the show is that the characters are normal people with normal problems. Some of the scenes dealing with George's family are the most poignant -- especially if one has experienced similar situations in their own life. You can relate to it. DLM shows the psychological aspects of people and their relationships with each other. Season 2 is better because it develops some the threads introduced in season 1. Everyone I've shared DLM with, loves it. I guess there are some people out there who are unable to appreciate a show that operates on multiple levels because their intellect has been dulled by dumbed-down television.

Summary: Best show ever.
Review: Really. It's one of the only shows I can watch over and over again; it never gets boring and never gets annoying. Each episode carries you from laughter to tears to contemplation, and I have never seen such fantastic acting. Even the minor characters give flawless performances, and the regular characters are nothing short of brilliant -- every single line is delivered just so, and you can't imagine anyone saying it better. All of the characters are given real personalities; their pasts, their lives and their dialogues are carefully-crafted. The characters (especially those who are dead) seem more real and more life-like than real people, and each show makes you think about life and death just a little bit differently than you did before. The direction and production are spotless -- colors are vibrant and intense, timing is perfect, and the picture quality and effects are always perfect for each scene. And, since each show is approximately 40 minutes, it's just enough to fit into your day, but you keep wanting more! Okay, so I'm raving, but this is genuinely my favorite show ever and I come away from every episode with the same "life, but intensified" feeling I get after watching My So-Called Life, or Almost Famous -- there are sad patches, and funny parts, but most of all you really think about life (the good parts and the bad), and it makes you want to live yours better.

Review: Showtime [DirecTV] offered a free weekend of their programming and based on a positive review I read, I casually tuned into the pilot of Dead Like Me. I am generally hard to impress, but this was love at first sight [watch]. I ordered Showtime and I have not missed one episode of season one or two. I only recently discovered that this DVD was available and I immediately ordered it from Amazon. This series deserves special awards in multiple categories. If you missed it on TV, get this DVD!

Summary: Nothing Compares to DLM
Review: So you think you've seen the best in a television series that deals with the subject of death and how it affects the lives around it (Six Feet Under)? Guess again. Dead Like Me's main character/Grim Reaper, Georgia (George), will leave you laughing, crying and pondering about life from the opening ten minutes to the final ten seconds of Season One. I've been hooked on television series before, but not the way I am to Dead Like Me. The writing is so fresh and distinct because it tackles life's issues from the varying perspectives of all the assorted characters in the show. Talk about having a mixed boxed of chocolates! You'll find in the reaper assortment: a brooding 13 going on 40 year old girl, a hopeless aspiring actress from the '20s, a use-to-be dancer turned meter maid, and a wise, estute father-figure/leader turned babysitter. If you enjoy witty, adult humor with refreshing views of life and death, you can't miss Season One of Dead Like Me.

Summary: Great dark comedy
Review: The first season of Showtime's very popular series, Dead Like Me follows George from her death, by the re-entry of a toilet seat off of MIR, through her transformation into a reaper. One of the best parts of the series is all the ways they find to "off" the people who die in the show, from a canoe flying off a car, toilet seat burning up on re-entry and nailing them in the town square or a dead guy falling off a balcony and landing on a newly-wed couple, it's always different and darkly humorous. All is not fun and games, as George is also trying to find herself, being a typical "Gen X Slacker", her life really didn't start until she died.

Summary: A truly fantastic series
Review: This is a great show, better than just about anything on American television. The series has great writing, great directing, great acting, and great music. Each episode is at once funny, intelligent, warm, caring, and contemplative. How many other shows can you point to that manage to cram that much into each 50 minutes? Get this and then watch season two on Showtime!

Review: well im not reviewing the dvd itself as much as the first season. this is probablly the best new show ive seen in a llllllloooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg time!!! im glad to see it was recognized and will be returning. anyway back to the season. its smart funny and all around good. i think youll especially like it if you like shows such as buffy the vampire slayer and angel. i hope you give it a shot because its well worth the money

Summary: Major Flop
Review: What a major disappointment. With the boring and unoriginal storylines, very poorly acted characters, silly settings (a German pancake house with yodeling in the background - what was the point of this and was this suppose to be funny?), etc. Showtime should have passed on this show and maybe see if Lifetime or UPN would pick it up. Teen girls might like this show but beware of the numerous rip-offs in the show - Seven feeling you get when you die (this was in a Simpson's episode where Homer thinks he's going to die), the super annoying boss at work (Office Space, Ferris Buellers Day Off, etc.), on and on. On top of that, there are just way too many logistical and plot holes that make this already poorly written show drop dead bad. I know people are going to say but it's just a show (or no way this can't be true) but when you pay good money to watch or own this show you should be warned up front that a combination of some Bigwigs at Showtime along with a new writer from an Ivy League school doesn't equal success or original writing.
