Summary: Fabulous
Review: I am terrible about movies, I truly dislike any movie that's going for a cheap laugh or trying to induce emotion. This one, while truly funny, is told in such a way that no one but the audience seems to see how truly hilarious these people's lives are. Easily...this is one of the most charming films I've ever seen. I've never met anyone who saw it who didn't love it.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: This is an excellent movie. You can watch it again and again and not get sick of it. Australians especially will love it for the little extra Australian jokes dropped here and there and even some of the props. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.

Summary: Wonderful Irony!
Review: I loved this movie. I was living in Australia when I first saw it, but I think this wacky Aussie family could be from anywhere in the western world. Great humour, wonderful irony - I strongly recommend it!

Summary: the "typical" aussie family?

Summary: A Poke at Working Class Mentality and the Nuclear Family
Review: The Castle starts off with an introduction by one of the sons in the family who then goes on to narrate the familiy's struggle with a multinational Australian corporation in the fight to keep their home from being subsumed under the airport next door's burgeoning development.

The family all come off as a bit thick, its meant to be a satirical look at working class mentality, but it is done without mean spiritedness, which is what gives the movie its charm. The family members obviously love one another despite chinks in the personal armour. The oldest brother is in jail, the father keeps adding rooms to the house without actually finishing them, and the mother specializes in frozen entrees for the majority of the family meals.

What makes the movie so funny is that at various moments you can see parts of your own family portrayed in the movies characters, and the good humor and sense of fun inherent in the directors intent for this film stays put throughout the movie.

Summary: Great offbeat humor
Review: We did not know anything about this movie when we rented it and now we are telling everyone. The characters make the movie and the father is unforgettably sincere in his own hapless way as he fights for their dilapidated home adjacent to the airport. The family and neighbors trust his judgement, even when he selects an attorney against his own advice! Truly a funny, charming movie and now one of our favorites. It is not "this year's Full Monty". It is much funnier.

Summary: One of my all time favorite movies
Review: This movie did a better job at creating wonderful characters in the first 10 minutes than most hollywood movies do in two hours. This is one of the funniest, sweetest movies I have ever seen. I own the dvd and have watched it four times the first week. It's that good!

Summary: Tell him he's dreaming!
Review: The Castle is a satire of the 'modern' family in particular the Australian suburbia family that is extremely funny. I saw this on video after spending a few months in Australia but it contains a number of issues that the average American could relate to. It is one of those movies with several memorable lines that you can quote for ages, but its just as funny the second and third time around. Its well worth checking out!

Summary: What all Aussie comedies should be like
Review: I spend a lot of time in Australia and I was lucky enough to catch this pic last time. I couldn't stop laughing because I have met aussie's who remind me so much of this family. I reckon it was one of the best comedies I've ever seen. I bought it in Australia and showed my family it when I returned and they laughed tons even though they didn't understand all the australian humor. Still a great movie that anyone can enjoy. Oh and Bonnie Doon is really as boring as it looks. Cheers!

Summary: an aussie Classic
Review: This film encorporates and illustrates the "tall poppy syndrom" of the Australian culture. It doesn't matter what class you are in society-- every person , when it gets down to the raw basics, is equal -- and everyone has the right to a good life. The humor is great, if you know Aussie, but an American would definately relate. When you experience this great film, you will have many phrases you will go around with -- don't miss it. It will make you proud of anyone who has tried to stand up for something important-- even if it is hopeless or worthless in your own humble opinion. enjoy....
