Summary: Viewed a while ago on Australian turf - Very Funny
Review: I saw this movie on regular television while traveling in Australia - It's hilarious. The basic plot is about a family that is being forced to move out of its "castle" because of an airport's expansion. The entire family, especially the father, is very loving and UNsophisticated bunch. The father has no concept of politics and lawyers - he only knows that he shouldn't be forced to move from his home. The way this basic and likable family takes on the government and big business makes for a great movie.

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: This is a great movie. I am also biased because I lived in Australia for two months, but anyone can appreciate this heartwarming comedy. If you like satire, this movie is for you. Also, if you liked this movie, you should see "The Dish" with Sam Neill.

Summary: wow what a sleeper
Review: I found a copy of this video in the local library. I thought from the cover that it was going to be another Flintstones. Boy was I wrong. I have viewed over a hundred films in the past 6 months and this one is at the top of the list. This movie will hook you from the first minute and never lets up. The other reviewers have expressed the humor which is fantastic but the thing that this movie does is put the viewer in touch with his humanity. I showed this film to a couple of friends, one a movie director. There are parts of this movie that really choke you up. It was fun to watch my sceptical friends get really quiet and misty. This movie leaves you with a great feeling. It is simply marvelous.

Summary: It was GOOD!!!! (inside joke if you have seen the film!!)
Review: This movie is a true example of a "feel-good" family film. Thanks to a tip from my best friend, RQA-Karen, who resides in Australia, I rented this wonderful film. It has the terrific combination of being both funny AND heart-warming. It shares a unique Australian comedic component, as well as an Australian/American family value component. Definitely worth the rent!

Review: Great Aussie movie about the classic Aussie battler doing his best to keep his home and family together! Plenty of laughs along the way to boot.

Summary: An Australian Jewel!!
Review: As a resident of Australia, I can proudly say to all of you non Aussie film buffs out there that this little gem from Oz is one of the best films to leave our shores in a long while. While it never manages to take an alternative path from the wacky, quirky theme that most Australian film makers seem glued to, this particular film is the only one that is heartbreakingly close to the way your average Aussie suburbanite speaks, thinks and lives.

It was such a success here in Australia because it hit so close to the bone without being nasty or contrived! It is an incredibly funny and sensitive film of the little guy daring to think big and pulling it off. Working Dog is the company who wrote and directed this masterpiece, and they are considered legends of legends here for their ability to make us laugh at ourselves (they currently produce a hit Australian television show called 'The Panel' and have recently released their second movie called 'The Dish')

Many American viewers have said that this is very 'English' humour. After a trip to the USA and being confused as english on many occasions, I can understand how so many of you make that mistake. This is not english humour at all. Any Aussie will tell you that this is a true blue, corker, ripper, beaut of Aussie style humour. The other misconception, is that this movie really exaggerates the characters. Hate to tell the rest of the world this...but many Aussies really are like this. That's why we here 'Down Under' find this flick so ... funny.

Yes America I am from Melbourne (where this film was made), but don't [upset me] and pronounce it 'Mel-born'. The right way is 'Mel-benn'...and it's a right dandy place if I do say so myself! It has just been voted one of the top 5 cities in the world to live!

I recommend this movie to anyone who needs a good laugh and enjoys a movie on a more human scale.

Summary: Fab Anti-Big GOVERNMENT Film
Review: I can't really add much to the reviews of this wonderful film that appear below, except to say that many reviewers, both here and in the media generally, have been too quick to see it as a fight between the individual and big business. However, it is the Government that has ordered the compulsory acquisition of the Castle. The battle is thus between the residents and the Government. This makes the film all the more true and interesting in that it dares to take a satirical swipe at those who see the solution to all in governemnet interference.

Summary: Best film of the year
Review: Okay, it's hokey to say, but like "It's a Wonderful Life," this is one of the rare films I could see a hundred times because it reminds me there's a bit of humanity in the universe. The actors are engaging and wonderfully realistic...a "feel good" movie for intelligent cinema buffs. Some of the actors' lines have made it into our family jargon...

Summary: A great Australian classic
Review: leaves a nice fuzzy feeling after watching. One of those films that will continue to reminisce in your mind, long after it ends

Summary: excellent film, so-so dvd
Review: I really enjoyed this film. The main characters are sort of like The Simpsons, but without the sarcasm and malice; they are simple, unpretentious folk who know what family is all about. It's a real charmer, and it even made me a little teary-eyed at the wrapup. The only problem: the picture quality is not much better than what you would find on videotape. It's adequate, and that's a real shame, because for all this film's good points, all throughout I kept wondering why they couldn't get a clearer print. But all in all, it's worth buying it, sight unseen.
