Summary: This movie is by far one of the worst I've EVER seen
Review: Do not waste your money on this one. Believe me, I did and I just watched it I nearly had to kill myself to get through this piece of garbage. I never have written an online review of anything until now -- it was sooooo terrible that I had to warn other lesbians: do not get this film. The plot is entirely juvenile, a 7th grader could have written a better script. The acting is horrendous, but this could be due to such extremely terrible writing. I had hopes for this film but they were demolished in the first few opening minutes. It took several (painful)tries thereafter to get through this. It was so bad that I had to laugh at it in the end to keep from crying from embarassment that I bought this. It is so bad that I am ashamed to keep it on my shelf. In fact, I am going to sell it...I thought it would be an entertaining movie. Believe me -- do not buy!!!

Summary: Better Than Chocolate
Review: This movie is not the typical chic flick with dyke surprise or the usual girl go. There are multiple meanings on multiple levels. From coming out to meeting her family to the rainbow community of unending hope, first ammendment rights, human rights, and the violence we have to deal with every day. I was impressed most by its candid story line at all levels and would recommend this film for anyone straight, gay, lesbian or otherwise. And of course, its soundtrack, with Ani di Franco on the frontlines made the journey into the lives of each character that much more strong.

Summary: Refreshing!!!!
Review: What a refreshing movie! There's plot, there's comedy, there's turmoil, there's warm fuzzies, there's cold pricklies. None of the characters are the slightest bit sappy or one-sided. This in a three dimensional movie from beginning to end. The filming is fabulous, and the actors are sensational.

This is the story of sexual awakening and honesty of a girl, her family and the friends around her, plus an awakening for all to the importance of doing what it is you love to do -- all of it experienced amidst the problems that any individuals can experience daily just for being who they are.

The commentary is not what is in your face at all, but rather it is the personal struggles, the real characters, that take center stage.

Amazingly, nearly all of the people that got roles in this movie fought tooth and nail to get into their roles. It seemed like half of Canada came out for try-outs, and in truth - every single actor is born and raised Canadian.

The movie may have been low budget regarding its bankroll, but there is nothing even vaguely "low budget" about the finished product. 10 stars if the ratings went that high!

It's very true -- all of our characters do indeed discover what it is that, for them, is Better Than Chocolate.

Summary: Must Have This
Review: I fell in love with this movie. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon it while watching a terrible French film. The preview for it made us giggle. The movie is funny and warm. The characters are lovable and easy to get attached to. I found myself cheering for Maggie and Kim, but also crying with them. This is a must have for anyone not just lesbians.

Summary: My all time favorite flick
Review: I seen this great movie on HBO some time ago and just had to own it.What can I say besides like If These Walls Could Talk2 in a society that can judge and show such bigotry why not just watch, learn, and respect all?? I love both of those films.

Summary: MY FAVORITE!!
Review: That's all that needs to be fed.

There is a plot, a conclusion, lovable characters, and laughing. This film deals with relationships, family, and the views of society. Also, it deals with bisexuals, transgendered persons, straight people and lesbian. It doesn't really touch on gay men, but if you want to see gay men, watch "Trick," it's pretty good.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A romantic comedy, but serious issues
Review: This was a delightful film, an absolutely successful romantic comedy, but also looking at some serious issues -- the "love and relationship" issues, and some of the more serious ones of coming out, transgender issues, censorship, bigotry and bigoted violence. These subjects are explored without making the film "a bummer," which is a fine line to walk, and successfully done here. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Entertaining
Review: BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE is a must see movie in my opinion. It centers around Maggie, and her family and friends. Maggie is a lesbian living away from home, and her mom and brother. One night after almost being attacked, she encounters Kim. A few days later she runs into Kim again and they fall for each other. It was very sudden how they got together, within a few weeks saying that they were in love. Maggie's mother Lily and her brother come and live with Maggie, which creates a problem for her. Maggie is not out to her mother and wants to live her life and still maintain to keep her sexuality a secret. She works in a bookstore with Francis and Carla, and their transgendered friend Judy is often around. The story is enriched because it involves many stories which fold together. Lily redefining herself and discovering herself again, Judy finding love with long time crush Frances, Maggie's brother beginning a relationship with Carla, and more. One of the subplots centers around censorship, which was a well used plot in the movie. There is some great scenes, such as the erotic scene with body painting, and Maggie making a statement against censorship by posing nude in the bookstore. Overall a well acted movie, perhaps a bit convinient, but overall entertaining in the end.
