Summary: Thought Provoking
Review: I think this film disturbs a lot of people because it makes you think, and people don't generally want to think while watching a movie. If you can get beyond the politics, i.e., homosexuality, you will see that this is a story about finding that one person that is meant for you, no matter the circumstances, or your past, and if you mess that up, you will be forever Chasing Amy. I thought the film was a breath of fresh air and I would highly recommand it. Funny, honest, in your face comedy.

Summary: Kevin Smith is a genius
Review: The third installment of Kevin Smith's New Jersey Trilogy, Chasing Amy is the romantic tale of "Boy Meets Lesbian". Even to this day, after seeing it dozens of times, my sides still hurt from laughing. Kevin Smith's New Jersey Trilogy is so intricate, so well assembled, you will be floored. I mean, you've gotta love those Jones sisters. "Archie and Jugghead were lovers."

Summary: Upsetting
Review: Nowhere in any of the previous reviews do I find the allegation that K.S. is part of an "imperialist plot to surpress (sic) homosexuality," nor do I find the implied accusation that white males don't have feelings. I agree with the notion that this movie appeals to a very specific demographic. Yes, what happens in the movie could very well happen in real life -- I don't see anyone contesting that notion. A film's power lies in what one consciously or unconsciously takes away from it. As mass marketed and widely distributed as this film was, I think the fear is that the obvious target audience (traditionally the most dangerous and least exposed to both the gay -- male and female -- and feminist communities) will walk away with reinforced notions that keep such communities invisible and powerless. No one's asking (or expecting, for that matter) for a moralistic TV-movie of the week that preaches peace and love, but this film, to me, was too obvious an ego stroke for all the guys who have ever come on to a gay woman, been shot down, and decided to assert some aggressive, testosterone-fueled backlash.

Summary: get a grip
Review: Regarding the insulting comments listed below: Kevin Smith is part of no imperialist plot to surpress homosexuality simply because he has a take on the world we live in. I loved this movie because, contrary to your belief that such things can't happen, it reflected almost perfectly a relationship I had with a young woman who was questioning her sexuality. In this day and age, as love is being redefined, Kevin Smith has given us a thought provoking essay on the subject.

White males have feelings too, as much as you might want to deny that.

Summary: Irresponsible Representation
Review: I've never been a fan of Kevin Smith's, but have always been amazed by his popularity. And why shouldn't he be so popular? His films are envisioned from a white, suburban, male, heterosexual perspective... and how true that is with this film! Sure, I'll buy the notion that "love knows no boundaries", but, in a Kevin Smith film? He has definitely carved himself out to be every white surburban heterosexual male's hero. And why wouldn't he be? He's made their wet dreams come true with this film. His portrayal of the lesbian community to an audience lacking real exposure to such a community is irresponsible and shameful.

Summary: Simply put: great!
Review: This is a truly excellent movie. It is the best View Askew production yet. It has a touching story, lots of hillarious jokes, and one of the best endings ever. This movie shows Kevin Smith can take it to the next level. He gives a realistic look at relationships in the 90's yet still displays the adolescent humour that made his two previous films so enjoyable. There are great performances by all the main characters. Joey Lauren Adams earned a well deserved Golden Globe nomination for her work. Jason Lee won an Independent Spirit award for his role as the overprotective buddy of Ben Affleck. Ben Affleck gives his best performance so far as Holden, the man questing after Alyssa(Adams). The film also features a great soundtrack. Although none of the songs were written for the movie, each one fits the mood of the scene as if it were tailored just for that scene.

Summary: Ridiculously dull - as bad as Dogma
Review: Hideously explicit and profanity-laced snore-fest is Kevin Smith's attempt at examining human relationships. Lame one-liners, nauseatingly-hip pop culture references, and pretentiously-clever dialog make this film a must-NOT-see. Joey Lauren Adams is such an incredibly annoying actor that after only fifteen minutes of enduring her obnoxiously-shrill voice I wanted to kill myself. Her "Oscar moment" during one climactic scene is enough to burst your eardrums. A couple of laughs scattered throughout this film does not make it worth renting let alone purchasing. A shallow presentation that does little to clarify the mysterious and wonderful bond between men and women. Instead, we are treated to empty characters who chose to explore themselves through sex and Kevin Smith would have you believe that something acutely positive or enlightening has come of this. Give me a break. Criterion is actually releasing this title on DVD and my faith in their judgement has deteriorated considerably. (Armageddon was bad enough, but Chasing Amy is the clincher) Avoid this film and rent something worth watching.

Summary: Great Love Story
Review: I loved this movie! This is a love story of a different kind. It is very heartwarming and true. You cant get stuck on the lesbian part of the movie. Holden and Alyssa are meant to be together and this movie shows you just how much.

Summary: all these opinions of lesbians being exposed as bad
Review: lemme tell you , that this movie wasn't even about gays and lesbians- that is the beauty of smith films. each character represents society or the way peoplethink. holden-a normal guy, set in his ways and his thoughts about love, and he comes to realieze, that there is no substitution for that one person-LESBIAN OR NOT! alyssa- confused of her own sexuality, but also set in her ways, but she meets holden, and everything changes. banky- ahhh, here's the finest acting job i have ever seen in my life. jason lee is a genious playing a homophobic young man who is jealous of the attention alyssa is drawing from his best friend.

well, that's my 2 bits, go buy this movie, it rocks! hope the dvd version is cool.

Summary: CHASING AMY
Review: Not too bad. More entertaining than most other 90's movie regarding such a topic. Buy it if you like the Jay and Silent Bob movies. I, however, find them rather dull
