Summary: ok but no clerks
Review: this was an ok film, but still highly overrated i recommend clerks, clerks the series, or maybe mallrats instead of this.

Summary: Very emotional.
Review: 'Chasing Amy' is a very emotional and moving love story. Some scenes may be too much for some people, but once again, like other Kevin Smith films, it is kept alive by the dialogue. Kevin Smith is a talented writer and should write more serious works. He shouldn't waste his time on silly junk like he normally does. Rent this on though.

Summary: I liked this movie when it came out, but I've grown up.
Review: This film is a shameful commentary on homosexuality-- suggesting that men and women can just "turn it off" when they want to. This film is what I call "sensitive chauvinism." It comes accross as harmless, though it is really offensive on many levels when you look a little below the surface.

Also, it's a "chick flick" for guys who think they're too cool for "chick flicks." Smith tries to mask the melodrama and sappiness of this film by throwing in a lot of crude language and crude discussions-- but once you get past that, you may as well be watching Notting Hill.

Kevin Smith is perhaps the most overrated director out there right now. His characters are nothing more than one dimensional caricatures and his dialogue stinks. His "comedy' is crude and often insulting. He has made a living off making films for insecure young men who live in their parents' basements.

Summary: Chasing Amy, required viewing for all men
Review: This is my favorite Kevin Smith film. In it, as in most of his movies, he crafts a main character you love and hate at the same time. His exploration into the minds of the typical male with this film is incradible. What man hasn't had a problem with his current girlfriend's past. This movie should be required viewing for all men, no matter thier age. The cameo type appearance of Jay and Silent Bob is a masterwork. Bob isn't so silent this time around and if you haven't seen this film, it's worth it just to hear the silent one tell off Jay.

Summary: Indie Romantic Comedy
Review: "Chasing Amy" starts off strongly with some funny scenes, but unfortunately it doesn`t seem to know where to go afterwards. The ideia of a heterosexual guy (Ben Affleck) falling in love with a lesbian (Joey Lauren Adams) is interesting and quirky enough, yet director Kevin Smith offers an uneven and flawed movie.

The premise is offbeat, but the execution isn`t as smart or clever as Smith thinks (like in most of his movies, by the way), in fact it`s really rather pedestrian, delivering a message with some moralism and preachiness. The overall result is unsurprising and predictable, even if the actors do their best and the dialogue is witty and credible. It has its moments, still the main message about sexual conflicts, although relevant, isn't told in a particular subtle or original way, since the approach could have gone further.

Smith tries to analyse this relationship with a mature perspective, but it doesn`t really convince and turns into an average chick flick.
At least "Chasing Amy" is better than "Dogma", given that it manages to deliver a couple of poignant and interesting scenes.
A decent rental, worth watching once.

Summary: chasing another jay and silent bob
Review: the reason why i have that title is because there is going to be no more jay and silent bobs. Strike back was the last one. Jersey girls going to be good i hope but no ray and silent bill.
Ahhh anyways this movie is different from the others. they have the girl from big daddy, and this movie is better than it. I like this movie of the drama out of all of them. Clerks for the smarts, mallrats for everything else, chasing for the chick flick kind of but still with smarts, dogma for the action and the artistic manners, and jay and silent bob for the comedy. This movie is a good movie to watch with your girlfriend. I really like this film. I don't really like it better than clerks and mallrats but it still a good movie. Kevin Smith will do it again in jersey girl. (I hope) Im also waiting for clerks the animated movie.

Summary: One-dimensional film-making
Review: I'll admit, writer/director Kevin Smith had me initially hooked in the first few scenes, with the "tracer" exchange, in particular. I was interested in the premise and was anxious to see how it would be developed. However, in my opinion, Smith threw away a great opportunity. Like in many of his films, Smith prefers to convey his message through tirades, diatribes, or not-so-subtle parables. The characters in Chasing Amy preach, ahem, "speak frankly" about hot topics, and Smith is subsequently praised a writing genius. I think it's just a lazy tactic on his part, an easy way to make sure that the theme of his movie is abundantly clear to everyone. Consequently, Smith relies on turning his characters into literal mouthpieces, and even stoops as low as to deliver the theme of the movie himself as Not-so-Silent Bob. I don't think it's honest, or even offensive; it's just a waste of resources. Chasing Amy isn't "about" a lesbian convert, as you may have heard... she's just the vehicle Smith uses to unilaterally declare: "love people for who they are, not for who they were."
Despite my previous comments, however, I still think it's a movie worth watching. I couldn't give it less than 3 stars because, after all, it was still pretty funny and I think the actors overall do a pretty decent job, particularly Joey Lauren Adams. There were a number of times when I laughed out loud. Furthermore, I like that Smith refused to compromise some of the more controversial aspects of the film.
Again, the script had a good premise and could have potentially yielded a compelling portrait of a normal relationship in rather unusual circumstances; however, in my opinion Smith has not yet learned to fully utilize his medium. Movies are one of the most versatile modern artistic forms; there are a myriad of tools at your disposal to convey your message, and the best filmmakers use them all effectively. I just think Smith relies too heavily on the script alone in Chasing Amy. This was fine for Clerks, which didn't take itself too seriously, but for as ambitious a project as Chasing Amy, it comes up short.

Summary: Something Missing
Review: I think this movie was average but where the #@%^ was Jay and Silent Bob. They are the best characters in any of Kevin smith's movies. Not that Jay and Silent Bob would really fit into this movie, but he found a way to fit them into Dogma, so find a way for Chasing Amy!!! Anyway the new movie Kevin smith is making doesnt feature Jay and Silent Bob! WTF is that? Dont buy this movie it is a huge @#&%ing waste of time.

Summary: I didn't get into it but it's still good
Review: This movie is very smart with a great script and excellent performances. It was meaningful and took the time for character development and for the characters to fall in love instead of every other romantic comedy that has too much gloss to them (any other Julia Roberts movie other than Notting Hill or Pretty Woman-still prove my point but I really liked them-Win A Date w/Tad Hamilton, Heartbreakers, Wedding Planner, 2 Weeks Notice-the list goes on). And kudos to Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams-she deserves and Oscar for that scene in the parking lot when she's sobbing and yelling at Holden-it broke my tiny and cynical-at-romance-but-a-romantic-at-heart heart. Basically:rent it-Valentine's day is just around the corner!

Summary: Why did Silent Bob speak?
Review: I found this movie very disappointing. First off, I've seen it advertised as a movie about a guy who falls in love with a lesbian more times than I can say, but I'm afraid that's just not what it is. It's an overly sentimental movie about a guy who falls in love with a girl who is confused about her sexual orientation. I guess I shouldn't be upset or offended that Alyssa wound up not being gay, since she basically represented lesbians in a stereotypical way that is so upsetting to me. She broke every moral code in the book at some point in her life. But that's not why the movie is bad.

The movie tries so hard to be something it's not. It wants to be deep and insightful, but the characters' supposedly insightful rants are nothing but rants. I had my hopes up for the scene during which Silent Bob would open his mouth, since it is assumed that he will have something to say worth listening to, but his story was just about as lame as all the others. I also did not buy the plot about Holden's friend being in love with him. Yes, the guy was a little homophobic and protective, but there simply was not enough evidence to support the theory that he was a repressed homosexual. Did Kevin Smith think that would make the movie more interesting? This is also the movie that made me lose faith in Ben Affleck's acting abilities. Ultimately, there are much more innovative romantic comedies out there. I would say that Mallrats was better, not because it was some fantastic movie, but because it wasn't overly ambitious. I'm just not seeing Kevin Smith as a director of a serious romantic comedy in general, because this movie takes itself way too seriously.
