Summary: Excellent Movie, Extremely Poor Video/Audio Quality DVD
Review: McClintock! is an excellent John Wayne Western, lots of laughs, and of course nothing beats the chemistry that John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara bring to the screen. Sadly however, the quality of this DVD is extremely poor, making it difficult to enjoy. A VHS copy of a TV airing of McClintock! would be better than what you get on this DVD! Lots of scratchy sections, poor focus, and audio volume keeps dropping out.

Summary: A delightful, boisterous romp
Review: In this film the 56-year-old Wayne sensibly steps back from "action-hero" roles and plays a man of his real age, whose romantic focus is a woman old enough to actually *be* his wife (he and O'Hara had previously teamed in "Rio Grande" and "The Quiet Man"). G. W. (for George Washington) McLintock is a wealthy New Mexico cattle baron who has watched the West won (and played a big part in that winning), and now, sinking into comfortable middle age, he suddenly finds his life disrupted by the return of his estranged wife Kate (whose reasons for leaving him he has never really known), their daughter Rebecca's completion of her schooling (Kate's chief purpose in coming back to the Territory at all is to convince him to allow the girl to return East with her and spend her time in a round of New York, Europe, and "Newport in the season"), the machinations of pompous Territorial Governor Cuthbert Humphreys, and the attraction of his new hand, Dev Warren (Wayne's son Patrick), for Becky. He must also find a way to help his old enemies, the Comanche chiefs recently released from prison, bring their people's plight to the attention of Washington (Humphreys would rather keep it at home), and cope with an influx of homesteaders hoping to farm a nearby mesa which, he maintains, "God made...for buffalo!" These complex story threads play out with wondrous clarity, helped along by a sterling cast, among the best of whom are Jack Kruschen as McLintock's longtime friend and chess partner, storekeeper Jake Birnbaum; the delightful Chill Wills as his majordomo and equally longtime right-hand man Drago; Edgar Buchanan as local derelict Bunny Dull; Michael Pate as Chief Puma; Chuck Roberson as the somewhat put-upon Sheriff Jeff Lord (who has eyes for Dev's widowed mother); Bruce Cabot (a long-time member of Wayne's "stock company") as neighboring rancher Ben Sage, and Edward Faulkner (another) as his son; and Leo Gordon as homesteader Jones. There's a wild slapstick brawl in a clay pit that follows upon McLintock's attempt to prevent the lynching of an Indian, and a comic chase through the holiday crowds as G. W. and Kate finally play out their quarrel. Wayne had a definite gift for comedy, though he used it seldom; in this film it gets full play as he creates a sort of straight man to all the craziness going on around him. A delightful comic Western that should be enjoyed by all ages.

Review: This is a great movie, of course, but the quality of the DVD leaves a LOT to be desired. The picture can be very blurry, and will sometimes zoom for no apparent reason onto nothing very important. It's odd. It's probably better just to get this on video.

Summary: John Wayne at his funnest!
Review: The story of a middle aged rancher who's wife has left him for reasons he doesn't know; who's only child, a beautiful daughter, has just graduated from college; who's rival, a pompus ..., has a large group of homesteaders heading for land that can't be farmed; who's old enemies, the local Indian Chiefs, are being released from Federal custody and he is trying to get a large shipment of cattle to market. This movies is a tour de force with John Wayne and Mureen O'Hara giving us great comedy proformances. The fight sence between Wayne and the homesteaders is a movie classic.It is a must see!!!

Review: DO NOT waste your money on the DVD of this great movie. Absolutely the worst quality I have ever seen in a DVD transfer. Wait for the wide screen version that, hopefully, will appear soon. The one star is for the quality of the DVD. The movie itself is a solid 5.

Summary: Mclintock--DVD
Review: I have the video and the DVD for this movie. My copy of the DVD is horrible. Goodtimes replicated the DVD and it has lines and blurriness throughout. I am a John Wayne fanatic and was very disappointed in the DVD. The video I have is by MPI and it is in much better shape then the DVD. If you plan to buy this movie...WAIT until someone does it right!!

Summary: Horrible Quality!
Review: The movie is one of my favorites the Duke ever made. I was really excited to see it on DVD. I can't describe my disappointment and frustration as I watched it over Christmas. The recording of the movie was made from a very poor film copy. Many scenes are blurry - totally out of focus. Film scratches are continuous. Don't buy this - wait for someone else to re-master it so it's watchable!

Review: The is John Wayne's best comedic role by far. You can tell he's very comfortable on the set with long time pal Andrew McGlaglen behind the camera. This movie is just hilarious and set the tone for other western comedies of the 60's/70's like The Rounders, Cheyenne Social Club and others in this vein. Maureen O'Hara is wonderful with her bitchy Scarlett O'Hara persona that just begs for a spanking by the Duke. This is the No.1 classic of the genre IMO. You can basically see the G.W. character again in North to Alaska...not as good but still great. BTW, I haven't seen the DVD or VHS so tread carefully.

Review: Boy, do I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing this DVD. I love this story, but the video quality is so poor as to take away from the enjoyment of the movie. Far too many scenes are out of focus or the color is off. It would be nice if the original producer of this movie would put it out on DVD, because I would jump at the chance to replace this piece of [trash]
