Summary: It's the outtakes stupid!
Review: ...The selling point for this edition is the mythical incomplete version of Born in a Trunk(in concert). The other outtake a football medley with the Mighty Mites(think Little League) ,while interesting ,once again demonstrates CBS misguided attempts to turn the Legendary Judy into the little old lady next door.It didn't work with Judy ,any more than it did , years latter, with Bette Midler. As another reviewer said ,it's time for Pioneer to release the remaining shows. While the inclusion of additional solos and the Bobby Darin material was a plus it wasn't enough to make me want this volume. .As a greatest hits type DVD it's a good collection. On the other hand, I'm having deja vu to my days of Judy on vinyl.I bought too many albums for one song not previously released.

Summary: like watching a rerun
Review: Gave this dvd 5 stars because any thing with Judy Garland always gets 5
In terms of value for money it is not very good because if you have all the previous dvds released by Pioneer you will already have seen most of the stuff
Of interest are a few solos not aready seen and a fascinating unfinished Born in a Trunk sequence from Episode 26 - it illustrates Judys sense of humour but I am not sure if the strain was beginning to tell by this time
It is time Pioneer released the few remaining episodes not seen on DVD and stopped expecting fans to fork out money for previously seen material

Summary: Surprise Producer
Review: Guess who the producer (s) for the Judy Garland show is? None other than Judy Garland's family (ie, ex-husband Sid Luft, and her children as heirs of her estate). Remember who the producers were?

Summary: I am outraged
Review: I am outraged at the treatment given to the loyal fans of the JUDY GARLAND SHOW. When all television series seem to be released as the complete first season why is JUDY's show being given out an episode or two at a time? First we get a box set (very well done) of about half the series. Now instead of part 2 we have to go and buy them one at a time and they havent even all been released. After they are released and people have bought them there will be a duluxe set so we will have to buy the epiodes twice... I refuse to buy anymore of the series until they put out the second part of the box set including all of the shows not in the first one. It also outrages me that some DVD's have four shows and some only have two but they all cost the same. Is it really a coincidence that the show with Barbra Streisand is the one that they short change people on but still overcharge for it. This screams out to me (and should to all of you) that all the fans of the show and Judy and Barbra are seen as morons by the producers. I can almost hear them all saying " ... will buy anything for any price as long as its about one of their Divas" and then laughing. I am boycotting this nonsense until we get the respect we deserve and the treatment to the show that it deserves. Its fine to put out the shows individually too for people who dont want all of them, price them fairly and dont try to cheat the fans. We were promised a second box set to complete the series and its been almost 5 years. Also the box set should include all special bonus material being released on these ridiculous compilations that nobody should buy. If you buy the box sets you should be able to expect to have everything that will be released, not have to buy compilations of shows that you already own in the set just for the special features and commentaries, etc. I refuse to be one of those dizzy fans who are grateful enough to lick the producers feet for "just putting them out at all however they see fit" and ripping us all off. I dont need to own the same episodes four times to gather all of the features, this should be given to us if we buy the box sets. Boycott all products in this line until the producers show us that we deserve consideration and respect instead of disdain and abuse.

Summary: A Bit Harsh
Review: I feel some of the reviews of this DVD are a bit harsh. Yes there is repetition for those Garland fans who purchase each new DVD offered of the series, but there are some interesting new things here. I found it worth the price to have the outtakes of the "Born in a Trunk" segment from show 26. I also enjoyed Judy's solo numbers, new to DVD. The one disappointment is the truncated medley shared by Judy and Bobby Darin. I wish the entire number had been included. I have faith that Pioneer will eventually release the rest of the series and, until then, I will be thankful for what I think has been a great DVD collection of Judy's finest work.

Summary: Judy-I Think I've Heard And Seen This Before
Review: I love Judy Garland, and am grateful for the collection box...
but the only reason to buy this dvd is to get "some" of the
best of the best, which has all been included in the collection
box...it included the interesting
"Born In A Truck" attempt!
The Bobby Darin selections...Major Disappointment, one of the
disks I was looking forward to. I hated the musical material
picked..and "Pioneer" only gives you a sample of their duets.
THIS IS THE LAST OF MY JUDY GARLAND DVDS UNTIL/OR UNLESS THE
NEW MATERIAL IS RELEASED, AND PERHAPS THIS CAME OUT BECAUSE
THEY HAVE SO LITTLE LEFT TO PRODUCE! IF YOU don't have the
collection, this is a good buy. If you have the collection,
simply program your dvd to the best parts of each show, and
you'll get 99% of what's on this disk..........disappointed!

Summary: The Best of The Judy Garland Show
Review: THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW lasted but a single season--but it is one of the most written-about series in the history of broadcast television, an example of how even the greatest talents can be undermined by network politics and bad publicity. Given the mecurial nature of its star, the series was tagged as a failure long before a single episode had been filmed; CBS gave it the worst time slot imaginable; and when expected ratings failed to materialize the powers that be essentially fiddled the program to death, constantly revising the show's format and effectively preventing it from ever achieving anything like consistency. But for all of this, when it was good, THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW was very, very good, among the most stylish and dynamic series of its era. And LEGENDS lifts some of the show's finest moments for this "greatest hits" anthology that shows Garland and a host of memorable guests at their finest.

The set designs, cinematography, costumes, and staging are very memorable here: very 1960s hip and very elegant in crisp black and white. The arrangements are equally fine. And as for guest stars, the list reads like a who's who of 1960s show-biz: Tony Bennet, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Mickey Rooney, Jack Jones, Mel Torme, Martha Raye, Ethel Merman, Jane Powell, Bobby Darwin, and a truly remarkable performance by Barbara Striesand, who sings "Down With Love" and then duets with Garland by singing "Happy Days Are Here Again" in counterpoint to Garland's "Get Happy"--truly one of the most extraordinary pairings in 20th Century television.

And then there is Garland herself. Given the failure of the show and the fact it was by and large the last substained effort of Garland's career, it is easy to think that she was "at the end" of her talents--but that is certainly not the case in any of the clips presented on this DVD. In solo, she is in remarkably fine voice and easily displays the magnetism for which she was famous; in duet, she easily holds her own with the best of her guests and mutes her own powers when playing with stars who are very clearly not in her own league. And whether it is Garland solo or Garland in duet, she has such immediacy that she transends the gaffes typical of 1960s variety series. This is a fine DVD with a beautiful transfer, excellent sound, and a package as elegant as the stars it includes. And if you're wondering whether or not you want to purchase the series--much of which is now available on DVD--this would be a good place to test the waters. Strongly recommended.
