Review: this is a good movie. It has everytihing I like in amovie--action, adventure, love, romance, and good beating up evil. It is silent, but has music with it to entertain you like in the old theaters.

Summary: Terrible print of a masterpiece
Review: This dvd is almost unwatchable. The film is actually printed so that a significant portion of the sides of the film runs off the edge of the dvd format. The image quality is poor and the music is unappealing. Get the Georgio Morodo version if you can, all things considered it is by far the best print available.

Summary: definitely worth it
Review: Having never seen this film before, I'm not going to disagree with the conventional wisdom that there are better prints out there (i.e. Moroder). However, this DVD version is completely watchable and I felt it was well worth my while to buy it. The story itself is excellent, and the film is a classic. If you ditched your VCR and really want a copy of Metropolis, I wouldn't be afraid to spend a few bucks on the DVD. Have a couple of drinks and watch it with some friends -- you'll have fun with it.

Review: The Classic Film Scripts series is a must for any serious videophile. These books separate the video into its basic constituencies and allow one to understand what the subliminal shots are supposed to portray. Even the background sounds are described.

Summary: Made from a terrible print
Review: In my book, Metropolis deserves at least five stars out of five. This is just an incredible movie. However, the print from which this video was made is a sacrilege. In spite of another review to the contrary, this is a bad print. It is either overexposed or underexposed, the intertitles are fuzzy and cut off at the edges, and it is just altogether a disappointment to those of us who love this film. Try to obtain the version from Kino International which seems to be the best one out there in English.

The version by Moroder is also worth seeing. It is a crisp print with lots of restored scenes that are not found in other versions. However, it has been color tinted and has a modern rock scoring. Many people hate it. I personally think it's great, but consider it to be a different work of art from Fritz Lang's original.

Summary: Don' Bother Unless...It's Moroder (out of print)
Review: No copy of Metropolis is of any worth unless it's the version that was done by Giorgio Moroder. As far as I know none exist except for some old VHS copies (expensive- I own one.) It's a shame since the Moroder film combined modern rock with the best revitalized long version copy of Metropolis one could get and infused hard to find stills into it that are representative of missing pieces of the film. Pieces that are gone forever, but the stills at least tend to make the story much clearer. When are the people who have the means going to put the Moroder version on DVD? Like NEVER?

Summary: such poor physicality
Review: I regret two things: 1- prior to my purchase not reading other user reviews which stated about the poor recording quality of the DVD, 2- rating such a masterpiece 2 stars only because of its poor quality.
I agree with all the other people who commented on the unacceptable quality of the image you get. It is out of focus, crops the sides of the frame (I guess that one can see not more than the 70% of the whole frame area) and sctatchy. Producing and marketing such a DVD is a sheer disrespect to a masterpiece like Metropolis.

Summary: Worst DVD transfer EVER!
Review: This DVD is from an EP mode video which is fuzzy and has visable lines. The opening titles have the M and S cut off! It is not played at the correct speed. Get the DVD from the U.K. if you have a multi region DVD player (Sampo is a good one to get).

Review: Don't buy this. I love Metropolis. This edition is terrible. I've seen Metropolis at least 10 times at various times and in various places over the past 25 years, and I've never seen a print this bad.
