Review: I had never seen this movie until about two summers ago. my sister and i rented it, and since then, we can't get enough. every once in a while, you just have to have a cheesy love story. the songs are fun to sing along with, the acting is good, and overall, it is just a really fun movie. if you haven't seen it yet, you should. my parents hate it, but the music is just so fun, my sister and i can't resist watching it multiple times.
Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE / PLAY Review: One of the best movies ever.
Rating: Summary: Still an incredible musical! Review: When "West Side Story" first opened on Broadway it was not only praised for its sublime score and songs, but also for its using the tough social issues of its day as backdrop: juvenile gang violence and Puerto Rican immigrants replacing the descendents of earlier immigrants, the Irish and Italians, in NYC's poorest neighborhoods.Nowadays, "West Side Story's" views on street gangs are quaint to say the least. Also it contains the most unintimidating street gangs ever. Would you step out of the way if you saw the Jets prancing down the streets towards you? Would 'Nardo and the Sharks frighten anyone if they minced onto a subway car? Yes, the street gangs in "West Side Story" are a hoot. Yet this is one great movie! The fantastic score, those wonderful songs, the unbelievable choreography, and the timeless story of "Romeo and Juliet" updated to the era of street gangs have all combined to arguably garner this film the title of the greatest musical ever.
Rating: Summary: West-Side Story Review: I can't quiet put a finger on what it is about this movie that I don't like. The message is good. The story: wonderful. The acting, so-so. The singing and dancing; I could have done without. Plus it's incredibly boring. I have many times fell asleep during this movie. I would still suggest it to anyone who is looking for a good, "modern" version of Romeo and Juliet.
Rating: Summary: Memorable Review: Legendary filmakers combined their talents to make this milestone musical. Direction, Choreography, Casting, Writing, Its all here. The opening shot tells us that this is a Robert Wise Film. For those who were extremly lucky to see this on Broadway with its initial company best regards,,,for the rest of us who want to revisit ..a great musical..something that will never be made again...enjoy.
Rating: Summary: It's just so darn good Review: There is a lot to ridicule in this movie--the lousy Puerto Rican accents, the wretched casting of the principals, the anachronistic street "toughs" who dance around like ballerinas as they play basketball... But the music, the dancing, the story, not to mention Rita Moreno...I have seen this movie at least 15 times, and every time I watch it I find another reason to love it even more. This is the best musical ever. Period.
Rating: Summary: Romantic- makes me cry every time Review: This is your classical Romeo and Juliet movie set in thefifties. The actors are pretty good (Try Beymer and Wood) some of themkind of stink (I won't name any names.) For those of you who haven't seen it, this movie is about two racial gangs (white and puerto rican). Tony, co-founder of the jets, (white gang) falls in love with Maria (sister of the leader of the sharks) and it causes some conflicts. I cry every time I watch this movie and am constantly amazed at the choreography. The songs are pretty good too. If you're in for a romantic, touching, tragic story watch West Side Story END
Rating: Summary: Bravo! Review: bravo,i cried in buckets, best fictional Love storyof our time. Maria & Tonymere pictures of the aspectsof what life is truly about, reguarless year decade or<century.
Rating: Summary: A Great Movie! Review: The best modernized version of the classic "Romeo and Juliet" story yet created! Memorable tunes and sharp wit are only a few things I could say to praise this film. You will walk away humming and sniffling!
Rating: Summary: Great musical! OK movie Review: West Side Story is one of my favorite musicals! I love the story, the characters, and the music! but I have to admit, after seeing a live performance of it, I was dissapointed. The cast was great, although Natalie Wood's singing voice being dubbed kind of ruined it. I didn't like the movie much, but I LOVE the show! If you like this movie, the next time a local theater performs it, GO SEE IT! I can almost promise you (If the cast is as good as the one I saw) You'll love it even more!
